Subject: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: PattyG Date: 06 Jul 99 - 11:26 PM Hi strangers! Trying to help a friend with her wedding and she needs just the right song for the soloist. This is second time around for both due to loss of mates to death. They both have grown children (so can't use such tunes as "True Love" or "Love is Lovlier the Second Time Around":) Have any ideas? Thanks much. PattyG |

Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: DonMeixner Date: 06 Jul 99 - 11:55 PM Tom Paxton's "Outward Bound" Pat Sky's "Love Will Endure" "October Roses" is a favorite of mine but might and might not work here. There must be hundreds of "perfect songs" Don |
Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: PattyG Date: 07 Jul 99 - 09:29 AM Lovely Locks and Don, Thanks much for the replies. The soloist is a female soprano. Don, could you tell me where I might find the lyrics to the songs you suggested? And I agree, there are probably lots of beautiful songs that would be just right for this occasion, but I've already exhausted my supply and am not coming up with just a whole lot. (My brother says absolutely NOT to "You Light Up My Life!") But then all I did was ask for his input so they could still use that! If ya think of any others, please let me know:) |
Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: Peter T. Date: 07 Jul 99 - 09:50 AM Just a question: Why can't you use "The Second Time Around"? There is no mention of children in it. Nice song, too. On a completely different note: if your friends have any interest in classical music, one of the most beautiful songs by Richard Strauss is "Morgen" (Morning). It is in German, but it is lovely. It is a song about people who have been through a lot in life, and who will embrace on a morning shore. There is an exquisite recording by Gerald Moore and Janet Baker. I once heard it sung by a soprano at a wedding for two 60 year olds, in England. Beautiful, slow, moving piece. Of course there is always that old standby for second marriages, "Back in the Saddle Again" (joke). yours, Peter T. |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE VERY THOUGHT OF YOU (Ray Noble) From: Date: 07 Jul 99 - 01:09 PM THE VERY THOUGHT OF YOU By Ray Noble The very thought of you, And I forget to do All the ordinary things that everyone ought to do. I'm living in a kind of daydream. I'm happy as a king. Funny though it may seem, To me it's everything. The mere idea of you, The longing here for you, You'll never know how slow the moments go till I am near to you. I see your face in every flower, Your eyes in stars above. It's just the thought of you, The very thought of you, my love. |
Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: Patty Gates Date: 07 Jul 99 - 01:45 PM Yes, that is a lovely song. I also had thought about "Only You" Only You....can make this world seem right. Only you....can make the darkness bright. Only you and you alone..can thrill me like you do and fill my heart with love for Only You...... Only you...can make this change in me for it's true..you are my destiny. When you hold my hand, I undersand the magic that you do, You're my dream come true, my one and Only You........ I also had even thought about the song, "The Last Time I Felt Like This"..........I was falling in love (Johnny Mathis and Jane Oliver sang this for the movie, "Same Time Next Year." Also wondered about the song "In My LIfe" by Lennon and McCartney........interesting lyrics for the circumstances, don't you think? Almost pays tribute to their deceased spouses while professing love for each other. Whaddya think? |
Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: Peter T. Date: 07 Jul 99 - 01:51 PM "In my life I love you more", "And these memories lose their meaning" sort of fits into the "Second Time Around" category, don't you think? yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: Date: 07 Jul 99 - 02:08 PM Yes, Peter, I think that song could be pretty awesome as long as the lyrics were taken in their entirety and absorbed in that vein......(or artery....:) My brother suggested "Always" which is, of course, a good standard. I just wanted to offer them a variety of suggetions. I still need directions for finding the lyrics to: Tom Paxton's "Outward Bound" Pat Sky's "Love Will Endure" and "October Roses" |
Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: Tom on Comfort Date: 08 Jul 99 - 12:37 AM Bill Morrisey's "Off White Dress" is nice. About doing what you want to on the second ceremony. The chorus goes something like "We'll find a band that won't play "Proud Mary" at all No matter how late it gets Just me in my suit as I waltz you around And you in your off white dress"

Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: Patty Gates Date: 08 Jul 99 - 11:13 AM Ha! I love it. The irony is that my son is the DJ for the wedding and I'll betcha someone will, indeed, request Proud Mary of the likes thereof! Where might I find the rest of the lyrics? I love this! |

Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: patty Gates Date: 08 Jul 99 - 09:09 PM Jeri, Thank you. I visited the site and the song is lovely. (As are some of the others.) I sure have appreciated everyone's input! Another song that might be pretty is, "Because of You." |
Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: l;ovely Locks Date: 09 Jul 99 - 10:18 AM I was just browsing through some wedding song books yesterday and I saw two in there that weren't too bad, but they might not be what you are looking for. You've Got a Friend, and Stand By Me. Just a couple more suggestions, I'll still keep looking though. Good luck!!!!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: Llanfair Date: 09 Jul 99 - 03:45 PM My sister and her husband are celebrating their 25th anniversary by renewing their vows (or saying I STILL do, as Jim describes it) She's asked me and my son to do an appropriate song atthe ceremony, and we've chosen "In my life" it's the most appropriate. (I've been married 25 years, too, but to three different people!!! Bron |

Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: Duckboots Date: 09 Jul 99 - 10:04 PM I've sung "In My Life" at about 20 weddings (friends' weddings that is) and every couple is still together! On two occasions I was asked to sing "The Wedding Song" and BOTH marriages broke up! Maybe they sould sue Paul Stookey. Rick |
Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: Patty Gates Date: 10 Jul 99 - 01:31 PM *Very* interesting! I'll tell my friends about that! (Now, I'm going to have to admit to not knowing exactly which song is, "The WEdding Song." What are some of the lyrics - perhaps I know it by another title? |

Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: Peter T. Date: 10 Jul 99 - 03:02 PM I think it is completely bizarre that people would use "In My Life" at a second wedding, involving people from the first set of families and/or friends. It only goes to show that no one listens to lyrics. "All these memories lose their meaning, and I think of love as something new, though I know I'll never lose affection, for people and things that went before....In my Life I love you more!!!" (I mean, trash the past or what?) If you aren't going to listen to the lyrics, why not play "Je T'Aime, Moi Non Plus" and get it over with. Really bizarre. Yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: Rick Fielding Date: 11 Jul 99 - 11:57 AM Peter T, the most bizarre wedding song was performed at the reception for Richard Leslie Fielding and Heather (no middle name) Docherty in Cambuslang Scotland in 1989. The bride's sister had pestered the confused groom to be for months with questions like: What are ye gang tay wear? (he didn't know..but didn't own a suit) What kind of music are ye gang tay have? (anything but the kind of crap he'd often been asked to play at others' weddings) Well, upon being informed by future sister-in-law that jeans and a tee shirt were verbotten, he bought a cheap, ill-fitting suit, and she was so relieved she completely forgot about the music issue. Came the reception (where the groom suddenly realized he'd have to DANCE!!(at least for a bit) and it was decided that the two "best Men", Tony Quarrington and Bill Harrison (imported from Toronto) would provide the music...until the groom was finished with official protocol, and would join them to make a trio! Well, the only waltz that these two could play together was "The Brand New Tennessee Waltz"...which the bride and groom took the floor to. I doubt if any of the assembled Docherty relatives knew (or could understand) what the lyrics were. But I did! It was OK though, the older relatives were still getting over the shock of the bride dressing in a black mini-skirt! Despite all this, 'twas a wonderful day, and I'd do it again in a second! rick |
Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: Pete Peterson Date: 11 Jul 99 - 12:46 PM Other appropriate songs Beware O Take Care God Made Woman After Man (and she's been after man ever since) The Man Who Wrote the Home Sweet Home Never Was a Married Man Sorry the Day I was Married Stern Old Bachelor Never Be as Fast as I have Been I have sung some of the above at three weddings now-- and they are all still together! As some previous poster has said, nobody listens to words anyway. PETE |
Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: Banjer Date: 11 Jul 99 - 01:34 PM If I had judged life solely by my first time around and was lookimg for an appropriate song for the second time, I would have chosen 'A Fool Never Learns', but as it turns out the second time is far better than the first and has lasted 22 years so far. The first ran for about a year and a half! |
Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: Patty Gates Date: 12 Jul 99 - 12:11 AM Okay! I think it's settled! The groom's daughter will play harp music prior to the wedding The soloist will sing, "Someone Like You" The bride's two children and spouses will walk in with the minister the bride's two grandchildren will walk down the aisle as a junior bridesmaid and ringbearer, respectively The couple will walk down the aisle together The nuptials will take place The soloist will sing "One Hand, One Heart" as a benediction The newlyweds will leave the church (and if I can find the "statement" I heard at one wedding, there will be no music for the recessional, but the minister will intone, "Wither thou goest, I shall go....whither thou lodgest, I shall lodge....thy people shall be my people (etc., etc.)" (from the Book of Ruth) The first dance for the reception will be "Keeper of the Stars" (we think) and the second dance will be the bride with her son and the groom with his daughter and they will dance to, "Always" (the chorus only, of course) Next dance will be for guests to join in and we haven't gotten that far for a song selection, but that should be a piece of cake after all of this!!! THANKS to one and all for your help and input! Much appreciated!

Subject: Lyr Add: OFF-WHITE (Bill Morrissey) From: Tom on Comfort Date: 12 Jul 99 - 01:06 AM Well congratulations on getting all that settled. And I've tracked down the lyrics to the Bill Morrissey song that I mentioned earlier. So even if you don't use it (and since I don't know how to post the music to it, it'll be hard for you to), here are the words, 'cause I think they're rather sweet. It's in a waltz time: OFF-WHITE We'll invite our families And some of our friends And maybe they'll even throw rice And we'll have us a party Then get out of town And not listen to any advice We both feel so new And this time we know We'll never have any regrets And we'll hire us a band That won't play "Proud Mary" No matter how late it gets (refrain) Yes we'll hire us a band This time around That plays nothing but our requests Just me in my suit While I waltz you around And you in your off-white dress We both were married We both were young We both have made our mistakes We know how it feels Both when love is real And when a heart truly breaks So take care of the food I'll find us a band And together we'll rent us a hall Maybe you weren't my first The way I wasn't yours But the last love is the sweetest of all (refrain...) (On his "Inside" album) Y'all have a lovely time, now, for sure. --Tom |
Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: Peter T. Date: 12 Jul 99 - 09:17 AM Rick, that is hilarious. You seem to have gone through the thick and thin part on day 1! yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: Wedding song for 2nd time around! From: PattyG Date: 12 Jul 99 - 02:26 PM Tom - I love the lyrics! And I shall print them out and offer that for folks who are divorced and having another go at it! I really like that! Also - could someone tell me about the revised rendition of "The Tennessee Waltz?" The words are different? Haven't heard it. |
