Subject: Lyr Req: All for the rum and tobaccy Lyrics? From: GUEST,Merripan Date: 26 May 09 - 11:11 AM I am looking for the lyrics to a song that I believe is called "All for the Rum and Tobaccy" - or something similar. It's my husband's fault... he started singing it this weekend, but only knows a few words of the song: "This is my boat, my tiny tiny boat, sailing 'cross the ocean (unknown lyrics here) All for the (or my) rum and tobaccy" It's a long shot, but if anyone happens to recognize this, please let me know of the lyrics? Thanks! ~M |

From: Weasel Date: 26 May 09 - 12:26 PM Don't the Watersons do a version of this? - (from memory) All for me grog for me jolly jolly grog All for me beer and tobacco I've spent all me store With the ladies on the shore And it's all for me grog and tobacco If this is the one you're after I'll try to find my record (it's on an old vinyl LP which will be buried amongst a thousand other anachronisms somewhere upstairs) Cheers |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: All for the rum and tobaccy Lyrics? From: Joe Offer Date: 26 May 09 - 12:53 PM I guess I usually think of the various versions of "All for me Grog" as a sea song. Sandy Paton sings it in a very different style, titled All Gone for Grog. It's on the Sandy and Caroline Paton New Harmony CD, available at Folk-Legacy Records. Good song. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: All for the rum and tobaccy Lyrics? From: GUEST,Merripan Date: 26 May 09 - 01:11 PM Thanks to you all... I hate it when a snippet of a song runs through my head all the time, and I don't even know it... But it's catchy. LOL. And, due to this last weekend, my hubby wants to re-write the lyrics, as we were hauling our 16-month-old daughter all over a campsite in a little wagon... You can almost hear the song re-writing itself... *chuckle* ~M |
