Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: freda underhill Date: 07 Jul 09 - 08:13 AM one of the problems with getting older, bits keep falling off. or some fool cuts them off. just make sure you don't get the wrong bit cut off, kendall, and you'll be fine! (puffs up importantly) let me advise you about how to deal with friends giving advice... ..well, i never worked that out. when you're pregnant, suffering sleep exhaustion with a baby, or recovering from an op, "experts" suddenly flock by with instant solutions. (I hope you're not pregnant, captain). it's impossible to out-expert an expert, but you could always roll over n play dead.. that'd challenge his expertise.. good luck, kendall freda |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: gnu Date: 07 Jul 09 - 08:06 AM Sheep? I thought they ruined grass by tearing it out of the ground. Now, a cow... there's what you want. jac could milk it and make fresh cream before she serves you breakfast in bed each morn. |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: Rapparee Date: 07 Jul 09 - 08:04 AM Awaken, Kendall, and greet the new day!! The morning sits and swings In her hammock of rose and gold, Her feet just touch the sea And the edge of her garments fold; She wafts a breath to me Of the blossoms of hope and love As swinging to and fro She croons like the brooding dove. Sing soft, swing low, Oh, rosy morn! Clasp to thy breast The day, new born. The morning swings far out O'er the foam of the misty seas, And lights with rosy glow The tops of the tallest trees; The sleeping flowers wake At the touch of her quick'ning lips, And drink the dewy showers That fall from her finger tips. Sing soft, swing low, Oh, rosy morn! Clasp to thy breast The day, new born. |

Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: Mark Ross Date: 06 Jul 09 - 10:45 PM Yes Captain, Utah would have enjoyed you raising sheep. He used to say that it made his tongue hard just talking about them. Mark Ross |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: Rapparee Date: 06 Jul 09 - 09:20 PM Sheep, Kendall. Raise sheep. They'll trim and fertilize the lawn at the same time, and provide wonderful side benefits for your friends. |

Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: maeve Date: 05 Jul 09 - 01:48 PM Thanks for the poem, Rapaire. To the best of my knowledge, Kendall takes care of his own face and nose. Jacqui is his Bringer-of-Sunshine and All-Around-Chaser-of-Blues. I am only a friend who doesn't see either of them nearly enough. m |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: jacqui.c Date: 05 Jul 09 - 01:31 PM He's out right now mowing the lawn. Still has the problem with food and it looks like we're going to have to postpone Albany yet again, but there is some sign of improvement. Oh, and isn't the sunshine just lovely? |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: Rapparee Date: 05 Jul 09 - 12:44 PM It's Little Maevey Sunshine, Come to brighten Kendall's day, To wipe his nose and wash his face And chase the blues away! |

Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: EBarnacle Date: 05 Jul 09 - 10:23 AM Jacqui, you might sing "I hung that jawbone on the fence and ain't heard nothin' but the jawbone since." Do it a few times when he starts talking, then, every so often just whistle or hum it LOUDLY. |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: Micca Date: 05 Jul 09 - 09:36 AM reminds me of something.... leadfingers..in the celler... with the banjo... |

Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: Becca72 Date: 05 Jul 09 - 08:06 AM 100 is in the normal range... normal range is 70-105, depending on who you ask. The more important number to keep track of is your A1C which should be under 7.0 (again, depending on who you ask). |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: nutty Date: 04 Jul 09 - 03:57 AM I'm not sure what Type of diabetic you are Kendal but I'm assuming that you are Type 2 and possibly on tablets Your drop in blood sugar during the day is purely based on exercise. Your body is using more glucose (as energy) than you are taking in as food. Your overnight readings could be normal FOR YOU, OR If you are taking tablets - and take them first thing in the morning - their effect could be wearing off overnight. Try taking them at midday and see what happens, If you are taking tablets there are two kinds ,,,,,,,, One encourages the pancreas to produce more insulin The other encourages the body to use the insulin produced more effectively. If not already on both - you may need to change. I apologise if I am totally off beam with my assumptions but it's taken me 13 years to sort out my own needs as a diabetic so I know it's not easy. |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: Peg Date: 03 Jul 09 - 11:08 PM Kendall, let me know when you'll be at Albany Med, I can swing by for a visit. I'll be sure to bring something fattening with me. |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: Janie Date: 02 Jul 09 - 11:00 PM Ain't nuttin' frail about that man but his male ego! (Clear the stairs, I'm coming down.) |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: Rapparee Date: 02 Jul 09 - 09:41 PM Because it's easy to work from, Kendall. Sort of like the boiling point of water in Celsius is 100 degrees. They probably took the blood sugars of about ten thousand people without diabetes and set the average at 100. |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: Leadfingers Date: 02 Jul 09 - 07:52 PM Shame that cellar is so far away - I could add a whistle to the Jam Session ! |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: kendall Date: 02 Jul 09 - 07:37 PM I wonder why they set the normal at 100? |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: Becca72 Date: 02 Jul 09 - 05:23 PM That's because you were misdiagnosed as diabetic.... 1 or 2 high sugar readings does not a disease make. |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: kendall Date: 02 Jul 09 - 04:39 PM For the past three days I have lived on ice cream and banana frappes. Loaded with sugar, yet my glucose is always around 110 to 120 in the morning. It drops during the day. My blood pressure is normal and I've stopped losing weight. Looks to me like all my problems are food based. If I just stop eating they will all go away. |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: Stilly River Sage Date: 02 Jul 09 - 01:38 PM Sounds like you're describing undiagnosed Asperger syndrome. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asperger_syndrome.
Asperger syndrome (AS) is also called Asperger's syndrome, Asperger (or Asperger's) disorder, or just Asperger's. It is named after the Austrian pediatrician Hans Asperger who, in 1944, described children in his practice who lacked nonverbal communication skills, demonstrated limited empathy with their peers, and were physically clumsy.[3] Fifty years later, AS was standardized as a diagnosis, but questions about many aspects remain.[4] For example, there is lingering doubt about the distinction between AS and high-functioning autism (HFA);[5] partly because of this, the prevalence of AS is not firmly established. The exact cause is unknown, although research supports the likelihood of a genetic basis; brain imaging techniques have not identified a clear common pathology.[1] There is no single treatment for Asperger syndrome, and the effectiveness of particular interventions is supported by only limited data.[1] Intervention is aimed at improving symptoms and function. The mainstay of management is behavioral therapy, focusing on specific deficits to address poor communication skills, obsessive or repetitive routines, and physical clumsiness.[6] Most individuals with AS can improve over time, but difficulties with communication, social adjustment and independent living continue into adulthood.[4] Some researchers and people with AS have advocated a shift in attitudes toward the view that AS is a difference, rather than a disability that must be treated or cured.[7] You'll have to go to the Wikipedia link above to get the footnotes, but this is a fairly succinct description. There many be nothing you can do that will get the response you want. SRS |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: Dan Schatz Date: 02 Jul 09 - 01:26 PM It sounds like a great jam session is gearing up in the cellar, and the ticket is a small quantity of Pollyanna horse manure - so may I say, Kendall, that everything happens for the best, and this is all part of the plan. I'll bring the autoharp and a banjo. I frail. Dan |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: Rapparee Date: 02 Jul 09 - 01:16 PM But...if life gives you lemonade you can't make lemons, can you? |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: olddude Date: 02 Jul 09 - 01:11 PM I will bring me guitar to the cellar |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: SINSULL Date: 02 Jul 09 - 01:01 PM Cookies? He's diabetic. I think some nice warm milk sop and gruel to keep him regular. I don't know about the walker - with Seamus underfoot it might be used as a lethal weapon. If life gives you lemons, make lemonade! Move over Rap. |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: jacqui.c Date: 02 Jul 09 - 12:45 PM Rap - the cellar might be the safest place for you right now! |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: Rapparee Date: 02 Jul 09 - 12:23 PM Oh, Kendall, everything is going to be okay. Sure, you're feeling bad right now, but that's all that we can expect from such a frail old man like you. Have some nice soft, bland cookies and a little bit of weak tea and you'll be fine. And take a minute to appreciate all the goodness of Nature that surrounds you and your loving friends. |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: SINSULL Date: 02 Jul 09 - 12:15 PM Pollyanna horseshit? And I was going to ask Tinker to make lemonade. Guess I better not... Going downstairs now. |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: SINSULL Date: 02 Jul 09 - 12:13 PM Have to admit, Captain, I have never seen you quite as testy as you have been the past few weeks. I figure it is best to speak only when spoken to...and then with great care. Your friend is a good man and a good friend. He is a "Maine character" much like yourself but not of the laconic kind. Much like a handyman you and I both know. Some people are afraid of silence. You will manage to make your point and presevre your friendship. Meantime, keep Jacqui close by to preserve the peace...with a frying pan if necessary. Now don't go out digging a new well or cutting down a 50' tree just to prove to yourself that you are not frail. He may have been referring to your mind... CELLAR! I'm out of here. |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: kendall Date: 02 Jul 09 - 12:12 PM I usually appreciate his company but I had no energy to spare coping with his "Pollyanna" horse shit. |
Subject: RE: Kendall - update (June 2009) From: DonMeixner Date: 02 Jul 09 - 11:59 AM Jeepers Kendall, how do we get so lucky, you and I, to have outspoken daughters with the same name? And the same nickname. Spellage is different tho'. You can't stop some people from meaning well and being so boorish at the same time. I think it is a skill but I'm not sure. I always find some place I have to go right away when ever they are at my door. " How can I miss you if you won't leave?" Don |
