Subject: Obit: Mollie Sugden From: Fiolar Date: 02 Jul 09 - 08:54 AM Sadly Mollie Sugden who will always be be remembered for her role as Mrs Slocombe in "Are You Being Served?" has gone to the great store in the sky. Say "Hello" to John and Wendy. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Mollie Sugden From: jeffp Date: 02 Jul 09 - 09:32 AM She will indeed be sadly missed. Great delivery, a wonderfully expressive face. She cracked me up every time. And I am unanimous in that. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Mollie Sugden From: Abdul The Bul Bul Date: 03 Jul 09 - 06:14 AM and not to forget the film of AYBS. It's entered our family banter..."I've got them on. .....I'm glad to hear it"! Ah, wonderful to be English. Al |
Subject: RE: Obit: Mollie Sugden From: Will Fly Date: 03 Jul 09 - 06:30 AM Some years ago, I sat next to some Canadian visitors in the Theatre Royal in Brighton, watching a not very good play starring John Inman. When the play had finished, he came out to talk to the audience and had us in stitches with his chat - a very clever and polished comedian. The Canadians were in heaven - apparently AYBS is immensely popular in Canada, and possibly parts of the US as well - and they'd just come to see John Inman. They could not believe how the references to Mrs. Slocombe's pussy could be broadcast on TV! RIP Mollie S. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Mollie Sugden From: Mrs.Duck Date: 04 Jul 09 - 06:38 AM Precisely because at all times the remarks were innocent. That is the art of true comedy! A wonderful actress RIP. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Mollie Sugden From: Arnie Date: 04 Jul 09 - 06:57 AM Captain Peacock is still strutting his stuff on Last of the Summer Wine. The interaction between him and Mrs Slocum was priceless. I had a Saturday job in Woolworths when at school, and senior saleswomen like Mrs Slocum really did exist in the '60's - they used to treat us mere part-time lads like some lower form of life barely fit to fetch their stock from the warehouse. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Mollie Sugden From: Bill H //\\ Date: 04 Jul 09 - 05:47 PM So many great Brit Coms---AYBS, Black Adder, Keeping Up Apperances. Thankfully they will be with us for many years to come and, sadly, Mollie Sugden is gone---did the obit say whether or not she is survived by her pussy? She did try to get home in time to feed the dear thing. Bill Hahn |
Subject: RE: Obit: actress Mollie Sugden-'Are You Being Ser From: fat B****rd Date: 05 Jul 09 - 03:08 PM Arnie, my first job on leaving school, in 1962, was in a 'Gentleman's Outfitters'* in Grimsby. The 'are you free' stuff was going strong and AYBS reminded me of all the nonsense. At that time the 'junior' was a dogsbody.*There's an oxymoron for you. Anyway RIP Mrs. Slocum, I watched you in 'Oliver's Travels' as well. |
