Some years ago, I sat next to some Canadian visitors in the Theatre Royal in Brighton, watching a not very good play starring John Inman. When the play had finished, he came out to talk to the audience and had us in stitches with his chat - a very clever and polished comedian.

The Canadians were in heaven - apparently AYBS is immensely popular in Canada, and possibly parts of the US as well - and they'd just come to see John Inman. They could not believe how the references to Mrs. Slocombe's pussy could be broadcast on TV!

Captain Peacock is still strutting his stuff on Last of the Summer Wine. The interaction between him and Mrs Slocum was priceless. I had a Saturday job in Woolworths when at school, and senior saleswomen like Mrs Slocum really did exist in the '60's - they used to treat us mere part-time lads like some lower form of life barely fit to fetch their stock from the warehouse.

So many great Brit Coms---AYBS, Black Adder, Keeping Up Apperances. Thankfully they will be with us for many years to come and, sadly, Mollie Sugden is gone---did the obit say whether or not she is survived by her pussy? She did try to get home in time to feed the dear thing.

Arnie, my first job on leaving school, in 1962, was in a 'Gentleman's Outfitters'* in Grimsby. The 'are you free' stuff was going strong and AYBS reminded me of all the nonsense. At that time the 'junior' was a dogsbody.*There's an oxymoron for you.
