Subject: RE: Tom Bliss/Last gig/Gainsborough - 17 July 2009 From: Bru Date: 14 Jul 09 - 06:41 AM Tom was at Mark Dowding's club last night. A professional, original performer. First time I'd seen him. |
Subject: RE: Tom Bliss/Last gig/Gainsborough - 17 July 2009 From: GUEST,mauvepink Date: 14 Jul 09 - 10:16 AM Yeppers! Room at the Top had a very rare guest night last evening and what a memorable one it was. It's not often Mark has guests but whenever he does you can guarantee an even more wonderful evening than usual. Last night was no exception and the room was packed to capacity I have been fortunate to see Tom Bliss twice this year and for anyone who loves folk Gainsborough has to be a must for those who can make it It's all rather sad to think of such a singer having to pack it in and it was touching last night to think, as he sung his last song for us, there will not be many more tunes coming out of Tom's vocal chords for us in public. I certainly wish him well for the future and am grateful for the pleasure I have had in seeing/hearing him live. Thanks for a great night Mark and Tom... Gainsborough... push the boat out and enjoy a privileged evening best wishes mp |

Subject: RE: Tom Bliss/Last gig/Gainsborough - 17 July 2009 From: Mark Dowding Date: 15 Jul 09 - 03:11 AM Thanks Bru and mp - We had a fantastic evening on Monday with Tom which broke all records for us as far as attendance goes - so much so that they'd run out of glasses at the bar!- although if the few people who said they might make it had turned up it would have been cosy! He is one of the most professional performers I know and times his spots to the second - no need to say one or two more please - just give him a time and he'll finish on it! If you can get to Gainsborough you're in for a treat. Thanks Tom and good luck for the future. Cheers Mark |
Subject: RE: Tom Bliss/Last gig/Gainsborough - 17 July 2009 From: Andy Jackson Date: 15 Jul 09 - 03:15 AM Guest ED needs to try running a Folk Club. If there is anyone working hard and respecting the needs of the Clubbing performer it is the unsung hero Folk Club Organiser. And I know Tom agrees with this. Andy |
Subject: RE: Tom Bliss/Last gig/Gainsborough - 17 July 2009 From: Backwoodsman Date: 15 Jul 09 - 05:47 AM I think Sooz (who does know how to run a Folk Club) quietly put him in his place Andy. :-) |
Subject: RE: Tom Bliss/Last gig/Gainsborough - 17 July 2009 From: GUEST Date: 15 Jul 09 - 12:37 PM I've seen Tom perform three times in 18 months. His penultimate gig on Monday night was the cream. He really has saved the best till last and is going out on a high. No relaxing when he can see the end with Tom! If you are within 3 hours drive of Gainsborough Friday then you should be there! |

Subject: RE: Tom Bliss/Last gig/Gainsborough - 17 July 2009 From: GUEST,Tom Bliss Date: 18 Jul 09 - 04:49 AM Bless you all. I'll be honest. I'd been worried about how I'd handle it, but you all (at all the gigs on the tour, in fact) made it so easy. As for any comeback tour, I'm sure you understand that the problem is not finding time to do a few gigs, it's the need to commit months or even years ahead. Whatever I'm doing after the MA, it's likely that it'll be some sort of consultancy/freelance work and/or running a small green and/or TV business (the schools project has been abandoned through lack of interest in the Leeds area -lots elsewhere, but that's no good to me, sadly). The diary HAS to stay flexible to permit short term filming/working/meetings etc anywhere in the country, or even the world. But it's been a joyous ride - so thanks to all who've booked me, all who came to the gigs, all who bought my CDs, played tracks on the radio, signed up for RadioBritfolk, were nice to me on web forums, did sound for me, MCd, stewarded, came to workshops, learned my songs, and to all the wonderful musicians who helped, advised and inspired me, and specially those who stood along the front of the stage with me: Derek, John, Neil and Rod (in Slide), Chris Parkinson and Tony Taffinder (in the Pipers Sons) and the finest felon I could've fallen in with; Tom Napper. love and 'bye for now Tom |

Subject: RE: Tom Bliss/Last gig/Gainsborough - 17 July 2009 From: Travelling Audience Date: 18 Jul 09 - 05:15 AM Brilliant night.....whatever Tom will be doing it will be a great success we're sure of that. Hope to see him in the future. Mo & Geoff |
