Does anybody remember or know what happened to "Barrelhouse" Joe Shakespeare, an overweight, untidy but very good honky tonk piano player and blues singer with goatee beard that I saw several times in the 1970s around the folk clubs in London. I believe Bill Knox from the Nags Head at Battersea engaged him on occasions and I recall seeing him another time in a pub somewhere around Gloucester Rd. And what did become of Bill Knox, who tirelessly held together and MC'd the folk club at the Nags Head?

Hi,

I was there too, running the Nags Head, York, Battersea and The Nag's Head, Wandsworth Road with my then partner Bill Knox. We went on to run The Half Moon, Putney. I'm so pleased someone else remembers Joe Shakespeare and that time. I loved his playing. I do not know what happened to him, or Bill (who must be about 82 now). Hope this reaches you some 7 years on. Are you a musician I may remember. I still have links and am currently playing Clive Palmer's tribute CD
