Subject: BS: wow I have a hit record From: olddude Date: 25 Jul 09 - 12:58 PM so I wrote that song Lightning Road about the famous moonshiner who passed away. Anyway, I got this email from some of his buddies. They downloaded it and now play it in their trucks when they make their illegal hooch runs. LOL ... can I now say I have a hit record? can't stop laughing |

Subject: RE: BS: wow I have a hit record From: olddude Date: 25 Jul 09 - 02:13 PM A hit song cause 3 moonshiners like it ... LOL ... wow I wonder if they will ask for a movie ... Laughing. Just a simple silly song. They like it cause I mention popcorn that's all Ok here it is for fun: it is out here if you haven't heard it ... Youtube Lightning Road Lightning Road A moonlit highway, a dusty road, past the hollow at miner hill The smell of whiskey, a heavy load, straight from Popcorn Sutton's still You can say that the law will find me here one day, thats a story I been told Till that day, I'll drive the load and collect my pay, running shine down lightning road Sheriff Barkley, Deputy Joe, try and catch me if you can I know the highway, and every turn, 500 horsepower in my hand You can say that the law will find me here one day, thats a story I been told Till that day, I'll drive the load and collect my pay, running shine down lightning road In the hollow, the whiskey flows, he makes the finest in the land In the forest, when darknes falls, far away from the revenue man You can say that the law will find me here one day, thats a story I been told Till that day, I'll drive the load and collect my pay, running shine down lightning road |
Subject: RE: BS: wow I have a struck record From: Severn Date: 25 Jul 09 - 03:39 PM Dan, I thought lightning "struck" rather than "hit", so I guess I've been welcomed into the Age of Enlighteningment..... "Famous moonshiner who passed away", indeed! You mean to tell me this is NOT autobiographical? You'll have to show usa significant amount of proof, 100 at least, to show that it's not really you that does the Monster Mash and your songwriting inspiration is not truly still-borne. When your kids go to church, will they struggle to keep from singing their favorite hymn as "Faith IN Our Father's Living Still"? Does this make you want to change your billing to "White Lightnin' Hopkins"? Or how about becoming the new equivalent to Michael "Almost White Through Lightening" Jackson? (He was barely still dark enough to keep being called "Shine" down South). Of course you'd "Moon Walk" in a slightly different manner than he did...... Would your success put you into motion pictures, or would you keep on settling for discreet still photography? |
Subject: RE: BS: wow I have a hit record From: olddude Date: 25 Jul 09 - 04:36 PM OMG Severn ... can't breathe laughing ... great one my friend |
Subject: RE: BS: wow I have a hit record From: Peace Date: 25 Jul 09 - 04:42 PM Good one, Dan. |
Subject: RE: BS: wow I have a hit record From: Tootler Date: 26 Jul 09 - 03:15 PM Shouldn't this be above the line. It's about music after all. |
Subject: RE: BS: wow I have a hit record From: olddude Date: 26 Jul 09 - 03:59 PM Naw it is more about guys who run illegal moonshine than about the song .... lol ... I guess there is a real art to making the stuff. If the fire is too hot then impurities can get evaporate and condense instead of just the alcohol and you can get sick ... so the fire has to be exactly correct .. and the copper tubing exactly so long etc ... never realized it is a complex process ... Popcorn was the true master from what I was told ... One of the guys is sending me some original photos now that is really cool ... love to have them ... PBS did a special on the guy shortly before he died ... it was called moonshiners ... he was considered the king and a real throwback to ages past .. JT told me that "good shine" has no taste. It is like water going down then burns like fire and knocks ya on your arse ... |
Subject: RE: BS: wow I have a hit record From: robomatic Date: 26 Jul 09 - 04:59 PM olddudge, this is one of my favorite subjects of country music, and is right up there with losing breaks on a long long downhill: Casey Jones Wolf Creek Pass 30,000 Pounds Of Bananas All The Best! |
Subject: RE: BS: wow I have a hit record From: Bobert Date: 26 Jul 09 - 07:37 PM Enjoy it while you can, Oldster... It's folk music afterall an' folk music these days has a very limited shelf life... Wish it weren't so but it is... Back in '96 I co-wrote a song entitles "Youngstown Night" with my dieing wife, Judy... She had a large extended family and she wanted everyone to have a copy before she died... So while I was at work she patiently made copy after copy on 5 minute cassettes and I did a nice little water color for the cover and it was a decent little package... Anyway, we sent out over a 100 to her family in Youngstown, Ohio and it got played over and over and got sent to the local radio station that also played it and it got played in churches and all that... Yeah, it was fun... Yeah, it was a decent folk song... Yeah, it hasd a nice little folkie hook in it... But if ya' asked each and every one of those 100 plus people when the last time they played it I'd reckon that no one, other then her 90 year old mom who is still alive, has played it since Clinton brought us over the bridge in 2000... But it nice to have people diggin' yer stuff but don't go out and put no deposit on that Porsche or Taylor you been eyeing... But, on the other hand, enjoy every minute of yer fame... "I should have known it but nobody told me about this part Yeah they told me all about the pretty girls And the wine And money And the good times I should have known it Nobody told me about this part" (Buddy Miller) B~ |
Subject: RE: BS: wow I have a hit record From: olddude Date: 26 Jul 09 - 07:37 PM Thanks Robo first time Harry played 30,000 lbs of bananas for me I said What !! then busted out laughing at the mashed bananas line ... |

Subject: RE: BS: wow I have a hit record From: Bobert Date: 26 Jul 09 - 08:38 PM Listen. oldster... Screw the song fir now... Can ya' hook me up with some shine??? No apples or peaches 'er fruit of any kind... Just some straight up shine... Lotta tiny bubbles whebn you shake it... That's what thyis ol' hillbilly needs... Used to be that a hillbilly could find shine in every holler... Now the boyz wanta grow weed??? hey, weed works but ain't no shine.... Write a song about that and get yer boyz playin' that on their radios and get them boyz back into what they do best and this turning corn into gold... That's the way I see it... BTW, I had thid boy who got me a mason jar of the good stuff so I stuck it way back in the Kelvinator where I thought it was safe... 'Bout a fe wmonths later I go to get me a nice cold swig 'casue I had some chainsaw work to do - I love a little shine when I do chainsaw work - and my mason jar was gone??? Hmmmm???, I asked myself and then went to the P-Vine... I says, "Hey, I had some shine in the refrig and it's gone" and she says, "Yeah, mighty tastey..." That's why I am a bluesman... B~ |
