Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for some good and quiet tent camping sites in the NYC area? I know there are loads of state parks with tent sites, but here is my dilemma. My wife just wants to camp, so she's not so put off by the large campgrounds with RV hookups, etc. I on the other hand, would love a secluded campsite with some ammenities, but more geared to tent sites exclusively. Last couple of years we have been camping in some nice places, but the campgrounds themselves are overcrowded, noisy, sometimes dirty, and the spot where you are forced to pitch your tent is usually rock hard from being trampled on again, and again, either by vehicles or other campers. Maybe someplace with a short hike to a site, or someplace where your vehicle isn't right next to the car? Any help appreciated, as I am lost with the number of websites listing campgrounds, yet they are all very general.

How far out from the city do you want to be?

LilyFestre, I'd say roughly 100 miles any direction-Long Island, NJ, Pennsylvania, upstate.

You could always try Central Park and use the rather posh rest rooms in the local hotels for clean up.

I worked for the New Jersey State Parks for 18years, and I'd recommend either Bulls Island or Voorhees State Park. They're both directly west of NYC off of Interstate 78 and not visited by the city crowd very often. I don't know their web address, but you can Google NJ State Parks.

Thanks for the suggestions all...I'll look these all up. Sinsull, Central Park is my backyard...I camped in my backyard when I was a kid, not an unpleasant experience, but not what I'm looking for, lol!

Here's link for Connecticut State Parks camping areas. I camped with the Boy Scouts at some of them, 50+ years ago. Some were pretty nice then.

Peter.
