Subject: BS: Mudcat's Guy Wolff in Martha Stewart mag
From: Stilly River Sage
Date: 18 Aug 09 - 10:44 PM

Mudcat's own potter Guy Wolff is featured in Martha Stewart's blog today. I've been waiting all day for Mudcat to come back up to post this, but I think it will still be available at her blog in the archives. Here's a link: April 18, 2009.

Here's the first page of her photo album spread--she posted 43 photos of his place and his work!

Even more exciting than that, she says that his pottery is featured in the September issue of Martha Stewart Living! Some readers have posted remarks on her blog that they've already seen the magazine, so keep your eyes open for it.

Congratulations, Guy!

That's the one : )

Want to borrow it for a while?

It bakes a big-ass pie beautifully, and makes you feel warm and fuzzy when you see it on the shelf.

"Living" wouldn't fit on the line so I substituted "mag."

I haven't seen my copy yet. I just renewed my subscription earlier this month. I'll have to rattle their cage soon so they're sure to send it out, in case my name didn't make it onto this month's mailing lables in time.

What a gas to find this here. I saw my name and thought "Hey what's this" . Very kind of everyone here I must say . My son Ben just told me about Martha's blog yesterday.. I didn't know the word though I have heard it before . What's a blog ? Are, our "threads really blogs in disguise ??

We had a great time the day Martha came up for this shoot . She brought a very athletic French photographer who took all the shots for the magazine article but Martha's sister who I love took the pictures on the blog . I had never met her before . The one of the photographer at the door shows my wife Erica looking off into the distance and how much of a pretzel the guy could get his body into . I was exhausted just watching him work . No body fat on that one . Who needs a tripod when you can stand on your head !! His pictures in the magazine are magnificent . Martha mostly uses him for her books so I was very luck he came for our shoot .

No pie plates in the photo shoot but Martha was holding an English style Pancheon (or farm bowl ) In the opening picture of the article and I have gotten a ton of people wanting that bowl .. How great is that . !

I have been making friends with a ton of musicians on youtube including our own Dick Miles . I love the idea of a song circle with people you cant go meet . Its an amazing way to share homemade music . You just have to get over the worry of millions of people seeing your clip . In fact if you get a few hundred hits your in like flint . I did a version of an english song and someone wrote Dog's Bollix in the comment box . I thought he didn't like the performance until another Brit let me know it was an affirmative use of the word .I was relieved . So you can get all kinds of cultural information out there if you just put yourself into the fray !!! . Thanks again to all here and warm regards to all my old friends on the CAT of MUD !!

You live in a beautiful area, Guy, that makes the photographer's job a lot easier! I'm glad you enjoyed the shoot--I've heard stories over the years from friends about how much work goes into those. I'm surprised they got it all done in one day (though Martha is nothing if not efficient, so I guess I shouldn't be.)

I'm still waiting for my magazine, but it's late now, so I may have to go buy this one off the rack.

The really funny thing and also very good thing is I knew nothing about the possibility of this shoot till a week before it happened . Ben, my son worked on getting this shoot going . Martha is so very busy that its impossible to plan on her involvement and since this was an article she was writing she had to be there .This meant I did not take a month of cleaning up . Also there was a ton of product because we were preparing for "The North Hill Symposium " at the end of the same week instead of getting pots ready for wholesale and shipping meaning everything is in boxes . The day after the shoot I was tearing down everything and putting the whole inventory into my truck and getting ready to drive to Dover Vt .

All the best , Guy

Guy, I would suggest that you keep a good supply handy. You're probably going to be hearing from a lot of Martha's readers about ordering pots.

I think we heard about Guy's daughter, Elizabeth, years ago, but the search is broken and I couldn't find it, so...I'll post to this thread.

Talent and creativity abound in Guy's family...his son follows him in making pots and music (just had some pots shown in Better Homes & Garden's magazine) and, while that's been going on, take a look at what Elizabeth has been doing! I LOVE these and she is ONLY 19. My fav, of course, is the cat on the fence, but I'd love a copy of each and every one! Enjoy!

Congratulations on the show, Elizabeth and Guy. Well done, Proud Dad!

Is this what you intended to link to, Kat? Art show link

Here's an article about Elizabeth and her show: http://countytimes.com/articles/2010/03/25/life/doc4baba90bdba66207372265.prt

And a link to Ben Wolff's pottery: http://benwolffpottery.com/about.html
I loved the storytelling in Elizabeth's illustrations; also the felt gnomes included in her art show; made by her mother, musician Erica Warnock.

That's okay - these threads are a wealth of useful information and links. You mentioned somewhere else earlier that you might do some reproduction period pots for the White House - did I chime in and say what a great project, and gift that is? Wonderful idea! (And make Michelle a big pot to use out in the White House garden somewhere - that is such a great idea!)

I am sending her "thought rays" on your behalf, Guy.**bg** Truly, it would be so lovely for some of YOUR pots to grace the White House. Please keep us posted. Sounds as though your household is a busy one. Good going!
