You mean recipes using V-8, or recipes to make your own V-8 facsimile?

i thhink the original recipe included eight vegetables..
i have had great success in juicing zucchini!
you know those door stoppers that you find lurking under the leaves?

garlic, celery, beets, and i think maybe watercress would work too.

where do they get all that watercress??!! you can add onion too.

what kind of juicer do you have? celery clogs up the Champion..

but i can't imagine juicing lettuce..

(when i juice carrots i always add ginger for a kick)

I like to make bloody maria drink....with v-8 spicy hot and tequila

here is from the internet..

Let me hook you up with some V8 factoids:

    * V8 has been around since 1948 (well that's when Campbell bought it from W.G. Peacock) and is made by Campbell Soup Company.
    * The original V8 is made mainly from tomatoes and the juices from seven additional vegetables, specifically: beets, celery, carrots, lettuce, parsley, watercress, and spinach. Tomato juice composes around 87% of the total drink [1]. Campbell's makes several varieties of the drink, such as Original, Spicy, Lemon, Picante, Low-Sodium, and Organic. Two spinoffs of the V8 brand, "V8 Splash", and "V8 V•Fusion", are blends of fruit and vegetable (specifically carrot) juices. V8 Splash is sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup or Splenda, while V•Fusion is made from 100% juice and contains a daily serving of both fruits and vegetables per 8oz glass.
    * http://www.v8juice.com/ - This is the official website.
    * A few cocktail drinks use V8, most famously the "bloody eight" or "eight ball", which is a Bloody Mary with V8 instead of tomato juice. Vi-8 otherwise known as a Vimal 8 is a combination of V8 and orange flavored soda.

In Canada, clamato juice is popular in both the alcoholic drinks and in V-8 imitations.
I have made it using leftover vegetables and tomatoes; the spices add the flavor.

More recipes would be appreciated.

Has anyone tried Montel Williams blender? It liquifies anything and even heats soups. Seems to good to be true -?

Sounds good. I like V8 but not the salt (25% daily intake in 250ml, one cup) and the low sodium tastes terrible. Home made sounds good.

Don't like the clamato juice, although many Canadians prefer it in their 'Bloody Mary's' and such. Many drink it 'straight' in preference to pure tomato juice.

I would guess that the 'baby clams'used are those very small clams, mostly from the Orient; also sold here in soup-sized cans and used in soups.

There are good clams on the east coast of Canada but too desirable and expensive to use in commercial canned stuff.

I have gone to branding get-togethers on ranches in western Canada; no one eats prairie oysters here. We asked about them at one do, but they were dumped in a pile on the ground where the castrations, innoculations and tagging were done.

Mix raw tomato juice with pureed greeen chiles and some pureed (or juiced) raw onion. Water bath process. Much like Snap-E-Tom

Bobert has made the same request before. Might have been in another thread, though, not necessarily a dedicated one. Check out the long gardening thread from this year, it might be buried in there.

I made my own tomato juice this year, using a steam juicer to render the pounds and pounds of homegrown tomatoes. At first I thought I had too many tomatoes this year, but once I tasted this juice, I realized I need to grow about four times as many and just make juice all summer. It is ambrosia, when it is from super ripe home grown tomatoes. You can add back a little pulp for color if you want, or it is a lightly pinkish color right out of the steam juicer. I don't need other veggies in it.

Yeah, I did ask for a V-8 recipe on the gardening thread but seein' as everyone doesn't follow it I expanded the search... Plus, I didn't get any recipes on the gardening thread...

Actually, I am asking for the P-Vine and she has followed up on all the various links...

Thanks...

I just put the maters in the blender......after scalding and skinning. Same with the green chiles. Roast til 'black', peel, seed and blend.

I doubt if anyone here has the equipment to make juice for their V8, unless it's been adapted to burn biodiesel,

Instead of V-8, why not start with unsalted tomato juice and go from there?

I agree with Bruce. Good tomato juice is a treasure all by itself.

Well, the P-Vine loves to "put up" food for winter... And we have a bumper crop of tomatoes this summer... She is allredy canning anf freezeing what we'll need until next summer and still has more to use up... She has allready made 7 quarts of marinera sauce and she down to V-8 before we just give the rest away... She has amde V-8 in the past and has some recipes but she's always lookin' for a new 'n improved recipe...

I know it's silly but what the heck???

What I don't get is why they changed the proportions -- I recall that in my youth, V-8 tasted strongly of tomatoes and celery. Modern V-8 doesn't have enough celery taste, to my nose, and I wish I could get the original original.

Sigh. Nothing stays the same, does it? The older I get, the better things used to be (myself included). I think Art Thieme's new CD is titled something like that, if I recall what someone said at a birthday dinner I was at Sunday. If I'm wrong, it's even one more thing that used to be better (i.e., my memory).

Times ain't now, boys, nothin' like they used to be (2X)
I'm tellin' you the truth, you can take it from me.

(James Alley Blues -- Rabbit Brown, 1926(?))
