Just got an e... looked for a thread for it and found this one... what the hay eh? (Now, I know there might be a conflict with this and a diet focussed on diabetes prevention... but I hadn't thought about the water thin.)

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat.
?
What is the correct way of eating fruits?
?
IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS! * FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.
?
If you eat fruit like that, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.
?
FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.
?
In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.....
?
So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining ˜ every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc ˜ actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat!
?
Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes all these will NOT happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach.
?
There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the Secret of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.
?
When you need to drink fruit juice - drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don't even drink juice that has been heated up. Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all. You only get to taste. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.
?
But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look!
?
KIWI: Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.
?
APPLE: An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.
?
STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.
?
ORANGE : Sweetest medicine. Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessens the risk of colon cancer.
?
WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. They are also a key source of lycopene ˜ the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.
?
GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content.. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your eyes.
?
Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer! Can u believe this?? For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer.. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

Sorry I haven't been keeping you all updated. I know youse have been anxiously waiting same with bated breath.

I dropped 5 more pounds and hit an impasse. Don't worry, there wasn't much damage.

I struggled with my exercise program due to a slowly deteriorating lower spine caused by a condition known as Icandothat (a common affliction of young males which only manifests itself at midlife; it's also known to afflict middle aged males who imbibe) which is resulting in pressure on the sciatic nerves.

Nonetheless, I dauntingly ramped up my exercise program one week ago and immediately dropped an additional three pounds. It was tough, but I now only bring up one beer from the basement fridge at a time.

I don't know if I can keep up this rigorous regimen, but it does seem to actulally help with my leg pain, especially if I do a lot of reps.

What's amazing to me is that I was in such good shape and such an athelete at 23 years of age that putting on so much weight into my early 40s didn't even phase me until it was THAT far gone. Since then I have paid the price dearly.

But, with this new thrust, I expect I'll be back to playing several opponents over several hours on the squash court again in jig time. As long as I get to sit and have a smoke and a beer in between.

On the accountability thread (October 2010) SINS said she might consider my "beer" diet.

Well, time for an update.

I have gone even further in my exercise program. Seriously, I am more determined than ever to really "ramp it up". Now, I keep my smokes in the truck. As it is fall and the cold winds are blowing, not only do I get a lot of exercise getting dressed to go out fer a smoke, I lose calories by shivering while I make the 3.5m trek to the truck and back.

Next, if I can handle it, I will actually stay outside while I have a ciggie. THAT will REALLY take the weight off.

All of these simple techniques have worked wonders. Fact is, I am at a weight I haven't been at for near thirty years. Me Mum said to me today (I take her shopping every day) that that women in the shops were obviously trying to make contact. I replied that it must simply be the (nee) LeBlanc good looks. She replied, "Of course, but you were so fat..." Then she invoked her age and forgetfulness... I roared with laughter!

It really works... over 80# so far.

I'll hop in here to say that I asked you about your diet in another thread, but since I've found this one, I've added it to my traced threads and I'll read it through tomorrow. So don't worry about linking back or spelling it out to the declutter folks.

I've only lost a few pounds, but I'm also serious. I have about 35 pounds to lose. Now that I'm not cooking meals for growing teenagers, I can concentrate on just keeping foods in the house that will help me lose the weight finally.

Oh... I forgot to mention... Now that the Yankee football season has started I get a fair bit of exercise on Sundays as there are four games on TV here. The amount of exercise is directly proportional to the amount of ale consumed as I tend to jump up and scream at the referees much more often.

The idea about V8 and beer is a good one I can modify to a drink from years ago - red beer. Used to add a couple of ounces of tomato juice to beer, but whether V8 or tomato, I like the combination. Good idea. Don't know about the Gerwurtz with the beer. :-/

I bought myself a rice cooker for my birthday this year. But there is so much more than can be cooked with these than rice, and while I do a lot of cooking with normal pots and pans, there is this great ability of the rice cooker to stop at exactly the right time that is very nice. I got a good one, a Cuisinart, that has a steamer that stacks on top of the main receptacle, and the last time I used it I made a very nice chicken and rice below and near the end put the steamer basket with broccoli on top. It was all finished at the same time and was perfect. (I bought this cooker because it is designed to be very easy to wash - and gadgets aren't much use if they are too tedious to wash).

Of course, I HAD to wear my Bud tee for the pic. I owe a lot to Bud beer. And to du Maurier ciggarettes as they have limited my lung capacity such that, when I do take any exercise at all, I have to breathe more rapidly and thereby burn more calories... it all adds up in shedding the weight.

If I can manage to keep up the diet with the Bud and the smokes, I'll look great for the funeral.

Part of my diet includes trying to find ways to eat all of the various things that I have in great surplus out of my garden. That guarantees a lot of veggies, but this means finding recipes that aren't too fattening. I have some small poblano peppers that are delicious, and the chiles relleno casserole recipe I found isn't too bad. Peppers, cheese, eggs. I can eat it with picante sauce instead of topping with sour cream and it's a good source of veggies and protein.

WELL! I had Mum out to a store today Xmas shopping and an "old friend" was there. She did a double take when she saw me and walked right up to Mum and asked, "Aren't you feeding this boy?" Whereupon, she proceeded to "half" hug me and slap me on the chest and then gave me quite a chest rub and a few more pats.

I was rather taken aback. Flattered and uncomfortable (or, comfortable?) at the same time. I dunno about this diet thing... it's starting to give me prurient thoughts. And, those kinda thoughts have usually worked out poorly for me.

I dunno if I can be strong enough to keep up my diet and keep down my, ah, er, libido.

Back to the diet. I had a problem caused by eating cabbage coleslaw which required me to do something I did not want to do. Eat Campbell's canned vegetable soup. Salt - yuk. So, I started adding a half can of cut green beans and a half can of peas to each pot and eating a half of the pot for supper (in two "meals", one and a half hours apart)... every day.

Well, that pic of the old jeans is out of date. Yesterday I was hanging a Xmas wreath on Mum's front door and they almost fell down.

Today, I got out an even older pair of jeans, one waste size smaller and put another hole in my belt. The English lass at the grocery that I fancy commented about how trim I am looking these days. She's from England so I assume she was just being polite.

Mum asked about her and then asked me what my goal was. I replied that I really didn't know because I never used to weigh myself so there was no way to tell what my "fighting weight" should be.

Mum said, "Nooo, I mean with her." I took to laughing!

Well, as some of you know, I am an insulting engineer who works in a home office. It has been great. My bed, washroom, kitchen, living room and office are all connected by a four foot long hallway. Makes for easy commutes, especially in the winter.

However, work has been drying up for several years. I have actually lost money for a while. So, since I just turned 54 and my retirement years are in grave trouble, I am seriuosly considering my options with regard to changing carrer paths... ahhh, getting a job.

The reason that I have posted this on my diet thread is that I figure my employment search should take into account the fact that I have, and wish to continue, my renewed healthy lifestyle by considering jobs which augment the changes I have made. Rather than seek employment as an engineer or in some similar sedentary desk job, perhaps I should look toward one that would include a bit of physical exertion. Nothing too strenuous but something where I would be moving aboutst a bit. And one without much stress even though the pay might be less than winning the lotto.

I welcome your suggestions.

Here's my top choice for exploration at the moment. New Brunswick Liquor Corporation clerk. Not only will I get mild physical activity from stocking shelves, I'll meet new people at the checkout and wish them, with a smile, a good drunk. And think of the money I will save on gas. Win-win or what?

PS... I am now 10 to 15 pounds from "you should put on some weight". Been a long long road but certainly worth it. Now, if I get sick with something really nasty I won't suffer near as long.
