Peggy Seeger & Ewan McColl wrote a song calling attention to Iron Maggie being an android "she was built to man a toll shack in a region called the coal (sack?) on the very farthest edge of the galactic rim", "they are exils from a far galactic cluster, they malfunctioned & were thrown out in disgrace, they were made of wire & things & little wheels & bits of string, they are androids, strangers to the human race". T-Bone Burnett's "Humans From Earth" is wonderful...

I can give you all the lyrics if you want, but the refrain is

"Humans from earth, we're humans from Earth, You have nothing at all to fear, I think we're gonna like it here...."

Subject: Lyr Add: LITTLE STAR TREKS^^^
From: rich r
Date: 19 Jul 99 - 10:04 PM

With apologies to Malvina Reynolds and the filk site I found this on a few years ago.

LITTLE STAR TREKS

Little Star Treks on my TV, little Star Treks look so ticky tacky
Little Star Treks, little Star Treks, and they all look just the same
There's the deep one, and the next one, and the good old Bill Shatner one
And they all look so ticky tacky cause they all look just the same

And the captains of the Star Treks all rule with great efficiency
Balding captains, balding captains, although one wears a toupee
There's a black one and a white one and a refined old Englishman
And they all act really ticky tacky cause they all act just the same

Now the captains of the Star Treks have added another one
Lady captain, woman captain but a captain just the same
And she acts tough, and she talks rough and must not have any fun
'Cause the men act really ticky tacky and she must act just the same

And the plot lines on the Star Treks all deal with blowing up a ship
Silly plot lines, goofy plot lines, though they're plot lines just the same
And the reason is the plot lines are written by the three same guys
And they all write really ticky tacky and they all write just the same

And the bad guys on the Star Treks wear prosthetic body parts
Scary bad guys, rubber bad guys, but they're bad guys just the same
There's a Klingon, a pheringe, and sometimes a romulan,
And they all act really ticky tacky, though they don't look just the same

Little Star Treks on my TV, little Star Treks look so ticky tacky
Little Star Treks, little Star Treks, and they all look just the same
There's the deep one, and the next one, and the good old bill shatner one
And they all look so ticky tacky cause they all look just the same

And don't forget the "space" verses to "The Cat Came Back"

Subject: Lyr Add: A SPACEMAN CAME TRAVELLING (C de Burgh)^^
From: alison
Date: 19 Jul 99 - 09:51 PM

Here is one mentioned above

A_Spaceman_Came_Travelling Chris de Burgh

A spaceman came travelling on his ship from afar,
'Twas light years of time since his mission did start,
And over a village he halted his craft,
And it hung in the sky like a star, just like a star...

He followed a light and came down to a shed,
Where a mother and child were lying there on a bed,
A bright light of silver shone round his head,
And he had the face of an angel, and they were afraid...

Then the stranger spoke, he said "Do not fear,
I come from a planet a long way from here,
And I bring a message for mankind to hear",
And suddenly the sweetest music filled the air...

And it went La La...

Peace and goodwill to all men, and love for the child...

This lovely music went trembling through the ground,
And many were wakened on hearing that sound,
And travellers on the road, the village they found,
By the light of that ship in the sky, which shone all around...

And just before dawn at the paling of the sky,
The stranger returned and said "Now I must fly,
When two thousand years of your time has gone by,
This song will begin once again, to a baby's cry..."

And it went La La...This song will begin once again
to a baby's cry...
And it goes La La...Peace and goodwill to all men, and
love for the child...

Oh the whole world is waiting, waiting to hear the song again,
There are thousands standing on the edge of the world,
And a star is moving somewhere and the time is nearly here,
This song will begin once again, to a baby's cry...

Slainte

John S, you are right about that Flying Saucer song in your first post. It was by the Buchanan Brothers. I think I still have it around somewhere, but I believe it is on a 78, which means I can't play it here, and that's even if can find it in the first place.

From: reggie miles

Flying Saucers

Our marriage used to be,
like the sweetest harmony,
everything was peachy at the start.
Like a rocket to the moon,
it was over much too soon,
when she hit me on the head she broke my heart.

(*,sound effect of glass saucers smashing to pieces)
*SMASH!, OWW!, *SMASH!, OOOH!, *SMASH!, AHAH!, *SMASH!, OWWW!

(chorus:) Flying saucers, flying saucers,
flying from the hands of my wife,
flying saucers, cups and saucers,
are breaking up my happy wedding life.

Last night I sure was blist,
when she threw a plate and missed,
I cried this is goodbye to our romance.
But she pleaded as she said,
though the plate just missed your head,
I'm your wife and I deserve another chance.

(repeat from smashes and groans through chorus)

So to science I declare,
for those saucers in the air,
you don't have to look to Jupiter or Mars.
You can solve this mystery,
find a woman who is free,
marry her and you will soon be seeing stars.

(repeat smashes, groans and chorus)

Okay, not exactly what was requested but I couldn't resist

Subject: Lyr Add: FLYING SAUCER (from Brave Combo)^^
From: Nathan
Date: 19 Jul 99 - 09:30 AM

Here's one by Brave Combo (http://brave.com/bo/)

Flying Saucer

I'm tired of the same old job
and the same old recreation.
My life in general bores me to the core
I need a permanent vacation.
But I'm not gonna fool myself.
I'm not gonna tell me lies.
I won't pretend anything at all
But I really need a big surprise.

Refrain:
I wanna see a flying saucer
I wanna see a flying saucer
I wanna see it land in front of my car
Fly in formation over my backyard
Or carry me off to the nearest star
I want to see a flying saucer
I want to see a flying saucer, yeah.

I don't want to read your book.
(read your book)
I don't want to hear your tale.
(hear your tale)
I don't want to see any photos you took
Or get UFO news in the mail
(U-F-O)
I want to see something not from Earth,
Something new to understand,
Something way beyond sex, death, or birth,
Or playing music in this band.

Refrain

yeah yeah yeah

(From "Polkas For a Gloomy World" 1995 Rounder CD9045 Written by Carl Finch)

Richard Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathustra", while obviously not a space song, is well known and closely identified with "2001 - A Space Odyssey" - might be a good intro for your tape.

Here's a weird one, I'm trying to put a collection of songs on tape dealing with flying saucers and/or space - I've come up with CoaCoa beach blues (Eric Von Schmidt) Mr Space man by the Holy Modal rounders and I can loosley remember a song with the lyrics of "You've got to pray to the Lord when you see those Flying Saucers" I think from a fifties "Brothers" style group --any others? (any type of Music!) Thanks
