I was leaving a conference hotel today, rounded the corner of the car park, and found myself with an honour guard of white vans, neatly parked, noses to the traffic flow. It was seriously disconcerting. But I couldn't think of a suitable collective noun for them. Any ideas?

well. obviously a vanguard comes to mind. A possum flattened on the road has been vanquished. But a collective of vans -- probably a horde of vandals while they are still on the ground, and in the air a case of vanities?

We've got M.I.B. - Men in Black. Why not M.I.V.? The ones in clean vans might be B.I.V., for Beings in Vans. Maybe you've discovered the landing site - they just arrived and hadn't had cammoflage applied yet.

Come to think of it, I think I've seen them before. I was driving into London through the Blackwall Tunnel, and a string of identical WVs was driving up the inside lane like a train, and I couldn't get over to the turning. Got halfway to Cambridge (it felt) before I could get back. Was I late!

So, if they land in Kent, and then go up the M11, what are they up to?
