Subject: Bedworth Folk Festival 27-29 Nov (UK) From: GUEST,MalcBedworth Date: 04 Oct 09 - 09:36 AM Time is fast approaching for this years Bedworth Festival! See all the guest list and other information on the festival web site. New for this year is additional parking for caravans and campervans closer to the town centre venues (VERY near to the great Black Bank pub!) this also means we can accommodate far more vans, although it still looks as if we will sell out of space in the next few weeks so if you haven't already booked book quickly. As always we have planned in a Catters meet - this will be at The Old Black Bank on Saturday afternoon 3pm - 5pm hosted as always by Hils (MGAS) this is a totally free event so even if you don't have a festival ticket pop in and say hello! As well as the usual host of concerts, folk clubs and singarounds, there will be the fantastic Craft Fair in the Civic Hall followed by the Grand Ceilidh with Pete Grassby and The Aardvark Ceilidh Band. This year we have a really spectacular set of dance displays throughout the town centre (well in excess of 150 dancers!). Proceedings begin 5:30pm on Friday and go through (almost continuously!) to closing time Sunday evening. Highlights of the week-end will doubtlessly include the Friday evening late session dedicated to the memory of Johnny Collins who has been the backbone of the festival since it's inception, some special themed events include Derek Giffords "Birds in Song" and Liz Holland and Jeff Parton with their latest show - so there is something for everyone. We are currently working on the programme which should be on the web site by the end of the month. We are also still looking for stewards so if you want to join the fun for free in exchange for helping keep everyone safe contact Gill Gilsenan on 078 1248 7331 or Drop her an email. Thanks for your time. Malc. |

Subject: RE: Bedworth Folk Festival 27-29 Nov (UK) From: Dave Roberts Date: 15 Nov 09 - 02:17 PM I'm wondering if Bedworth Civic Hall is still the Hottest Place On Earth. The Salt Town Poets were there a few years ago and nearly fried in one of the conference rooms. Apparently the heating system was controlled by computer from nearby Nuneaton and nobody in Bedworth could override the system. As I said at the time, I've been hot at Middlewich Festival, which is, let's face it, held in the middle of Flaming June, but never, ever, that hot. Just wondered. Have a great festival, folks. |
Subject: RE: Bedworth Folk Festival 27-29 Nov (UK) From: Zany Mouse Date: 15 Nov 09 - 02:23 PM Don't remember it being hot, Dave. Maybe you were just unlucky. Blessings Rhiannon |
Subject: RE: Bedworth Folk Festival 27-29 Nov (UK) From: GUEST Date: 15 Nov 09 - 07:29 PM Onn the other hand, Bedworth was the location of the coldest singaround I've ever been to. |
Subject: RE: Bedworth Folk Festival 27-29 Nov (UK) From: GUEST,Rattler Date: 16 Nov 09 - 02:58 PM I don't know if, by the coldest singaround, you mean the frosty night many years ago when we had a fire alarm evacuation - Bernard Wrigley had his audience singing Wild Mountain Thyme out in the street! |

Subject: RE: Bedworth Folk Festival 27-29 Nov (UK) From: Malc Bedworth Date: 21 Nov 09 - 04:54 PM Hi all, Just a quick visit to say parking at the Rugby Club is now full, our second site behind the Black Bank pub still has some space, but is rapidly filling. Provisional running order is on the web site (shouldn't be too many changes now), and even the weather is looking reasonable (well, for the end of November!) Malc. |
Subject: RE: Bedworth Folk Festival 27-29 Nov (UK) From: Sue the Borderer Date: 23 Nov 09 - 08:39 AM Here's the usual invitation to everyone to come along and dance or play with Herbaceous Border. Sat 1.40 to 2.40pm outside the Civic Hall in what's rather grandly called the Health Centre Piazza. (When it's been wet we have been know to dance inside the Civic Hall) Sun 1.00 to 2.30pm (or p'raps stopping a bit sooner) in the Old Black Bank Car Park. It's always nice to know beforehand who's planning to turn up! Sue |

Hope you'll all be able to come along to the MudGather, Saturday at the Old Black Bank, starting at 3pm & possibly finishing at 5.30pm. there'll be a MudRaffle (I'll try to get it drawn at 5pm) with proceeds going to MudCat funds which will help to pay the server bills etc. So please, seek out those old white elephants, unwanted gifts, spare coins for the raffle tickets, purchase (or create) some chocolate and come to the Gather!!!! |

Hope the weather's better ! Love R & K |
Subject: RE: Bedworth Folk Festival 27-29 Nov (UK) From: Sue the Borderer Date: 24 Nov 09 - 07:43 PM Talking of Herbaceous Border on Sunday - there's a bit of confusion about the times! My original e-mail from Malcolm said 12.30-2.00 and that's what I've sent out in the HB Newsletter. On the web-site it says 1.00 - 2.30 and that's what I posted up above. I don't know yet what it says in the programme but I reckon I will aim to be there before 12.30 The forecast for the Midlands looks quite good for Sunday though it apparently will still be bucketing down here in Devon. Sue |
Subject: RE: Bedworth Folk Festival 27-29 Nov (UK) From: Marie27 Date: 25 Nov 09 - 05:58 AM Hi Folks Unfortunately, our shifts start at 3pm for the 4 hour stint, so I will not be able to make it. We shd be arriving on Friday mid evening. So I am sure to I will catch up with you at some point. M |
Subject: RE: Bedworth Folk Festival 27-29 Nov (UK) From: Malc Bedworth Date: 25 Nov 09 - 05:59 AM Hi Sue, The programme says 1pm - I just moved it back a bit as you will be using the car park and we thought it would be safer to leave it a bit until the traffic arriving for the music session had slowed down. By all means start earlier if you want - but be mindful of the risk!. We sent you a full running order over the week-end but your server is still not accepting it (see PM). The running order on the web site is now "final" (or as final as these things can be!) ... and the weather forecast for the weekend ....mild but wet, sunshine sunday - that could be the first time we have EVER had sunshine at Bedworth Festival! (that's from the BBC so it must be right ;-)) Cheers Malc. |

Subject: RE: Bedworth Folk Festival 27-29 Nov (UK) From: Acorn4 Date: 30 Nov 09 - 11:17 AM Tri were the highlight for us. The question I was asking myself was how do they rehearse living in different parts of the country? |
Subject: RE: Bedworth Folk Festival 27-29 Nov (UK) From: Singing Referee Date: 30 Nov 09 - 12:24 PM Great job by Malc and Gill and all the rest. We had a great time, but somebody shoot me if I say I'm indoor camping again. I'm too old to make do with 3 hours sleep! We enjoyed all our sets; audience for our interval set at the Ceilidh were brilliant. Seemed to be generally more people around, or was it just that without the Swan and Connie club they weren't spread around so many venues? Oh yes, and Hils was brill yesterday at the Arts Centre yesterday. Loved it! Steve |

Subject: RE: Bedworth Folk Festival 27-29 Nov (UK) From: AliceH Date: 30 Nov 09 - 02:06 PM Yes, Tri were my favourite as well. Once again, a very enjoyable festival. A big THANK YOU to Malc and Gill and their team of volunteers and all the performers. And just to prove that the sun can shine in Bedworth in November, I took some photos on Sunday morning - of the church opposite the Civic Hall just because I liked the colour of the sunshine on the stone walls; the Civic Hall to remind us of where there were several excellent concerts on Saturday; several of Sue's Morris dancing workshop in the Black Bank car park and in the afternoon - one photo of the Christmas lights near the Civic Hall. You can see my photos at my page on Picasaweb http://picasaweb.google.com/alice3754 |
Subject: RE: Bedworth Folk Festival 27-29 Nov (UK) From: bubblyrat Date: 01 Dec 09 - 08:42 AM Gosh,Alice, you even managed to get me in some of your pics !! When I got to the Black Bank on Sunday,I was wearing a short-sleeved shirt, and donned one of Sue's tatter jackets, but by the end of "Upton",I was so cold that I reverted to leather jacket and cloth cap, so that's me playing my harmonica and "improperly dressed" ! But it was a good turn-out,though, and the Brose caravan park was OK, if a bit far away from things !( Mini-bus & driver needed for next year,Malc !). And the "clash" between Mudgatherers and Other Musicians in the pub was rather unfortunate----perhaps another bar,or even another pub, would be better ? |
Subject: RE: Bedworth Folk Festival 27-29 Nov (UK) From: Acorn4 Date: 01 Dec 09 - 09:44 AM That's where we missed the White Swan unfortunately. On the good side though the fewer venues meant audiences were bigger. |

Many thanks to Malc, Gill and all those who organised, stewarded, etc. Had a great time despite the lack of sleep on Friday night. Lots of my very favourite performers on the programme & I got a few songs in too *grin* (many thanks for your kind words you lovely folks, cheques in post) Wonderful to see and hear so many Catters at the MudGather, I'm just so sorry that the Cat took so long to get around the room, which meant that several Catters left before we could hear them. I usually announce that people should let me know if they need to go early so that I can try to fit everyone in, but I must have forgotten, I am sorry! One of the highpoints for me was that Abuwood set up her phone so that Treaties1 could listen in, we were so glad that Theresa could join us. Thanks Alison!! The MudRaffle raised an amazing total of £104, which I'll be transferring to the 'Friends of MudCat UK' account which helps to pay the bills. Subject: RE: Bedworth Folk Festival 27-29 Nov (UK) From: GUEST,Gill Bedworth Date: 07 Dec 09 - 11:49 AM Well that's another festival under our belts and I think I say with confidence that it was yet another success. Malc and I were very busy over the weekend but still managed to enjoy ourselves - Well I did and I hope Malc did especially during the Rock 'n' Roll interlude on Friday evening, which he took part in and seemed to go down very well. I would like to personally thank those of you who were guest acts for your contribution to the weekend and also those of you who were stewards. Your help in making the festival safe for everyone was very much appreciated. Thank you everyone! I promise I will do something about the way the Rota is sent out for next year!!! The greatest thanks have to go to those who actually bought tickets, without you we would not have a festival - we are looking forward to welcoming you next year so don't forget to book early!! It just remains for me to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and Happy 2010. Look forward to seeing you on the circuit of festivals next year. Best regards Gill |
Subject: RE: Bedworth Folk Festival 27-29 Nov (UK) From: GUEST,Guest, Tri Date: 04 Feb 10 - 10:53 AM Tri enjoyed playing at Bedworth, despite Neal being ill: he had a throat op the next week. It is nice to play in venues where you can see the whites of the audiences eyes and it feels more like an expanded friendly folk club. In some ways much more preferable than being on high distant stages. To those who enjoyed the sets, we hope to see you next year around the circuit next year. To answer a question above, they rehearse monthly and we are very familiar with the M50mph (M6 North). Best Wishes |
