Go for the Tom Lehrer recipe for martinis...

Hearts full of youth, hearts full of truth,
Six parts gin to one part vermouth!

Jimmy Buffett's Perfect Margarita Recipe:

Crushed ice
3   wedges lime
2   ounces gold tequila (Cuervo 1800)
1/2 ounce tequila (Cuervo white)
1 1/4 ounces Rose's Lime Juice
1 splash orange Curaçao (Bols)

Put all ingredients except the 3 lime wedges into a shaker. Squeeze 2 of the lime wedges into the shaker. SHAKE WELL! Rim outside of glass only with lime. Salt only the outside of the glass. Add fresh crushed ice to glass. Strain mixture over ice. Squeeze remaining lime wedge in glass.

An old, more traditional recipe (1930s)

1/3 tequila
1/3 triple sec
1/3 fresh lime juice
Pour over crushed ice
(The ice may be strained out before pouring into cocktail glass).

Juarez variation (most popular before fancy mixtures (margaretatexas site) took over)
1/4 triple sec
1/2 tequila
1/4 lime juice
Crushed ice
Dip wet rim of glass in salt
Strain out ice as the drink is poured into the glass.

This never fails. Clean, simple, effective, and you don't need to be the 12 Volt Man.

3 parts good tequila. Herradura at least.

2 parts Cointreau

1 part freshly squeezed lime juice.

Shake hard over ice, strain, pour into a highball glass.

Start on the next batch 'cause you're going to want another.

Enjoy the show. Buffett's the best.

Cheers,

D

Here is a Buffet-related story.

One of my favorite musicians is a guitar player named Richard Gilewitz, who sometimes plays in a bar called the Florabama Club. (It straddles the Florida-Alabama line.) Its clientele is a mixture of college kids, tourists, and laborers beat up by life.

One night Richard was favoring the crowd with a rare treat, his classical set. He was halfway though 'Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring' when a member of the 'three-tooth club' planted himself right in front of him and bellowed his demand for "BUFFET!"

Richard simply regarded him mildly and said, "This IS by Jimmy Buffet."

"Cool!," said the drunk, and he sat back down.

I think this is a wonderful example of coolth under pressure.
