Those transporter warp-jumps are a bit rough, caught me as I was coming through the door!

Wasn't the bar on the right and the door to the kitchen on the left before? Coulda sworn... *mumblemumblestumblemumble*

anyhow - finished a weekend of Ren-faire and want something mellow - heard a really nice medley of "Red is the Rose" and "Loch Lomand" this weekend - anyone up to trying it?

Loch Lomand a great tune. The MacFarland clan comes from the shores of Loch Lomand. So the tune has extra meaning for us. (sigh) The story that I heard, about the low road. The low road is how your soul travels after death to get home. I had heard the story that the English (nach) had a big prison full of Scottish Jackobites. Well, the care in there wasn't very good, and they died like flies. So the prisoners that were reliesed, took the "High Road" home. Those that died in captivity, they took the "Low Road".

Now listen to the song, with that in mind and it makes sence, with the never never meet again line.

Anyway my .02 worth on a pre-coffee monday. (Ack!)

-Fadac

OK, I promise not to sing or play my kazoo, but can I tell you a story?
Priest in confessional: Yes?
? Man:Father, I'm 80 years old, have led a blameless life up till last night when I went to a low bar [could it have been the Mudcat Tavern?], got drunk, met two 18-year old stunners, took them to a motel and made love to both of them several times.
Priest: When was your last confession?
Man: I've never been to confession before
Priest: Why not
Man:Because I'm Jewish
Priest:Why are you telling me then ?
. Man:I'm telling everyone!

Barkeep, they're throwing beermats at me again!

Fadac, I have wanted that information for years. Naomi Mitchison used it in her book "To the Chapel Perilous", and I never understood what it meant. She always writes as though the reader knows what she knows, and she came from a very well-educated family. Thanks. Glad I popped in just now, but I can't hang around, as I have a classroom to clear.

You are a scholar and a gentleman, Pete, I'll have a small Metaxas. Actually that joke was told me this weekend by a Mexican: I always admire people who can tell a joke in a foreign language, I know I couldn't (and she's justwritten a science PhD in English!). I also heard some good Irish jokes from my Irish friends that evening but somehow I can't now remember them! (It WAS a good evening!).

FADAC, thanks for the information on that great old Scottish folk song. I had always wondered what the back ground to that song was. The McWilliams side of me particularly was curious.

It's a bit early out here in the desert to imbibe in the strong stuff, but a cup of coffee would certainly go great if you are around, bbc!

You are truly a gentleman and a scholar, sir. I'll have my usual poison, seeing as it's Monday, save the good stuff for later in the week. Beam on the rocks, make it a double - again, seeing as it's Monday. Today I feel like one of the barflies waiting for Hickey in The Iceman Cometh. I'll just have to figure out which one. Probably Slade, old fatalist philosopher. I hate Mondays - wonder what percentage of all the blues tunes were written on Monday?

Maybe if I sit here long enough I'll see some more old ghosts wander in....

"Oh, Neil......wooooooo"

wind whistling through a shutter is heard)

"Neeeeiiillll.....come away with me."

a slight movement, out of the corner of his eye, catches Neil off guard, he gives a start and gasp

Neil: "Why who could that be? ....Why, I think it's Little Red Riding Hood! Hey there Little Red Hood, I don't think little big girls should, go walking in the spooky, uh...spooky, oh yea, spooky old woods alone! Hey, guys, didja see that? No, really I think it was a ghost, didn't you hear her call my name? Uh, I've only had one, today! Naw...just give ma another pint! I gotta go to the eye doctor and get my eharing checked!"

He turns back to the table, bends an elbow, throught the glass bottom of his drinking mug, he sees the face of a young girl in a red hooded cape smiling at him from around the corner of the bar.

Neil's mates: "Hey, chum, wake up! Are ya alright? That was a fast tumble from a low chair. What in the world's up with you? Here, take a swig; it'll put hair on yer chest! Now, what was that you were saying about some more old ghosts wandering in....?

Hey gang! Sorry to stick bbc with all the drink and food duties, but I am just screwing down the last of the planks on the new outdoor deck. We will have a wet bar AND a cappucino bar under the awning out there. I could hear somebody playing Abilene- man that one is one of my favorites, along with Goodnight Irene. I remember driving through Kansas one May night, and stopping for gas at about 2:30 am. I was singing Goodnight Irene to keep myself awake, and when I pulled up to the pump I was still singing it. The attendant filled the tank, then stepped up to the driver window and sang harmony on a verse. Sounded so good we sang another one.

Seems like everytime we change threads, we pick up a new hero of the Beat Generation. Now Cassady and Kerouac are sharing their booth with Ginsburg and Kesey. No you can't see em, but nevertheless they are there. They become quite visible on full moon nights about closing time, but if you listen closely you can hear Kerouac's non-stop patter, Cassady's laugh, Ginsburg spouting esoteric imagery, and Kesey ordering more of the blue onion rings (yeah, I know they aren't blue- you try telling him!).Kind of an undercurrent to the usual din of conversation in here. Yes, it's the booth directly below the bay window with the Mudcat Tavern lettering. PJ doesn't realize it, but she's actually sitting on Cassady's lap right now. I try to steer people away from sitting in that booth, because all kinds of weird things happen, like when Kesey slipped LSD in that CPA's Sprite.

" Happy Trails to you... "

What a mental picture that is.....O my Lord....I'll be having nightmares tonight for sure....Maybe if I play some Old Timey Gospel it will relax and calm the frazzled mentals....

On a more serious note, the Loch Lomond story I got from a friend who sings a very beautiful version of the song is that it is the story of two captured soldiers, both from the same village. One was condemned to die and the other released. The song is the words of the condemned prisoner to his fellow villager...Again, here the 'low road' is the one that follows death, while the 'high road' takes the living home. So as is typical of folklore, one doesn't know which version to subscribe to, but the interpretation of the high and low appears to be the same in both cases.

On a less serious but music-related note, isn't there a song involving a hitchiker being picked up by a car full of naked religious people? I know I heard it somewhere, but I can't remember where and I can't find it in the database.

A little late, but, boy, is it fine! There you go! Next, double Beam on the rocks for Neil. Sorry for the wait! Let's see--Mexican stuff for Dave Swan (or is that you, PJ?). Murphy's & pork scratchings (pork rinds here, I think!) for Bron. Cold water for catspaw--over his head after that last link! Whew! How am I doing! Got to take shorter breaks! BTW, Doug, thanks for the generous tip! I'm still trying to pay off that digital camera!

OK, all this talk of ghosts and Little Red Riding Hood has put me in mind of a tune. Remember Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven?" OK, good...now, remember that junky 60's song "Hey there, Little Red Ridin' Hood, You sure are lookin' good, you're everything a big bad wolf could want....Ahooooooooo!" Now, with just a few minor modifications, you can sing a REALLY LONG SONG: (same tune) "Once upon a midnight dreary, As I pondered weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore" You have to play with that last phrase a little, but I always thought (after about 3 scotch's, that I had stumbled upon an absolutely criminal fusion. Any takers? Oh, yeah...this is good scotch...got a Tombstone Pizza back there? Want to continue this fusion stuff... Peter, I know you can sing along on this one, maybe try those finger picks!

It seems I missed some kinda flap; I guess I don't even want to know. Just give me a double shot of Cuervo in a snifter, please, and I'll catch up on the good times.

bbc: Aw shucks, I missed you again! Thanks for that wonderful especially brewed coffee. It surely hit the spot. I finally located a photo of me and the boss which I will be sending you via snail mail because I haven't invested in a scanner as of this date.

'Tis cocktail time on the desert and I'd sip a ice cold vodka on the rocks were one available. Velma had her glass of wine and shooed me off to the tavern for a spell. I'm glad that it's Open Mike night because I feel like singing! "Goodnight Irene," is one of my favorites and I think I'll start off with that one.

Mornin', folks! Thanks for the kind words, Doug & Neil. Keeps a girl goin'. Catspaw, you know you're s'posed to have 8 glasses of water a day. Hmmmmm..maybe I can help you w/ that. Well, here's your lime & tonic. That's not what you ordered? There goes another tip. Tell Karen I said hi. Cuevo for campfire. Welcome back! Don't worry about bygones; just settle in & enjoy good friends' company. Who do we have here--coffee & doughnuts or the hard-drinkin' crowd? How about a nice morning song? Anybody know "Early" by Greg Brown?

Ooooo-ee, ain't the mornin' light pretty
While the dew is still heavy, so bright and early?
My home on the range, it's a one-horse town,
And it's alright with me.

Back to work!

Hello Everyone,

This is the first time I've been able to stop in since last week and what do I find...baby oil wrestling and jello wrestling. Shall I go get a bucket of cool whip??

Is this co-ed baby oil wrestling or is that a silly question?

Count me in!! Do we disrobe now? Who's first? I missed listening to Rick nekked, to busy with my honey. This will certainly make up for it though.

Oh, may I have a Irish coffee for breakfast first, please? Are we still on Berts tab??

Well Peter, what can I tell you.........You and Mick also missed out on gettin' nekkid and listening to Rick's show.......sorrowfully, I couldn't help but notice that most of the participants were male.....and a more depressing and digusting looking lot, I've NEVER seen!!!! Plus we couldn't get the show over the net!!! Now the Great El Swanno did show in fishnets and half a gorilla suit, but that can't keep you going long, especially when he has gas.

Personally, I'm going to be gone all weekend and I wholly expect to see a far better and more musical site when I return..............and by the way, the problem with receiving Rick's show was Joe's fault as you've probably noticed on the "Get Nekkid" thread.

Well grab a drink and see what the day brings......and Zim, take that creme and shove it up yo........oh sorry, already said that didn't I?

Morning bbc, Spaw, R the Zim, we'd better have a close look at the jello delivery. I've heard that unscrupulous wholesalers are repackaging nut and vegetable jello moulds in plain fruit contaniners. Zim, you could have been had, and I hate to think what could happen if someone slid into a celery/walnut clot during the afternoon match. What's the world come to when you can't trust jello? Oh, no, you guys are still at it?!!! bbc here, reporting from behind the bar, under an umbrella. alison thought she had him, but Big Mick was merely using her own tactic against her (He was playing possum, catching his breath under the jello, & enjoying the ambiance.). He is attempting the possum roll himself now! Folks, you've got to see this to believe it! Will he succeed in pinning her? She can be pretty evasive, smeared w/ that gelatinous glop! Stay tuned! catspaw, was that water for you or the wrestlers? Just checking. Roger, thanks for the Dr. Bronner's. We'll dedinitely need it to get the cranberry stains off! Let's take a time-out, so Cap't Bob can give the pool a little stir. That Yamaha sure comes in handy! I'm going in the back, to mix up some jello shots for the after-party. Yell when something happens! It ain't over till it's over! bbc, out.

MAG, I think Catspaw meant NW USA, as distributor for the Imploding Pedro Guitar Corp.

Hey, anybody ever try that Jello you make with fizzy water? Now that stuff could be interesting...

Guiness Jello - haven't heard of it. I've got a friend who has a recipe for Guiness ice cream, though, but I think it'd be a bit difficult to wrestle in...

My God! Look what you have done to my bar! Jello stalactites dripping down from the ceiling, jello stalagmites on the floor ( or is it th' other way around). This place looks like a scene from Men in Black was shot in it! bbc, we'll need a fire hose to clean this joint up- and I've got the Loan Arranger coming from the bank with his loyal sidekick Squanto to look at the place before he advances us a loan for the Folkie Karaoke Machine and the shuffle board table. The horror...the horror...

And look at Max's Mudcataloupe... better stick it in the Maytag before he finds out. Ah the Hell with it. Gimme one of those Jello/Vodka shots. You have raspberry?

Hey who's that guy climbing into the Porsche Carrera all covered in banana jello? You say that's not just any guy...That's The Loan Arranger! And he loved the jello wrestling? He's giving me the loan?!

Thank you Masked Man!

HAHAHAHA... I knew we'd be a good team Harpy..... but someone beat me to it for an idea to get more blokes into the pool......

I have a huge vat of gelatin powder... now if LEJ could just fill up the pool with Guinness and someone gets that Banjo down to help mix the two... we could have lovely black jello with a white creamy head on top.

BTW what do Lady Eglock and myself get as a prize?

Lej, I think we'll need a professional cleaning crew after events like this! Guess we'd better charge something, to defray the cost. On the jello shots, all I have is cranberry, but they're not bad!

Hi, emily! Come on in! Don't let these folks scare you off! Here's your warm cardamom milk. You just relax here till you feel like joining in. Who knows? Maybe you'll be in the next round!

Yeah Emily, with bbc's cardamom milks it's just a short trip from cowering in the corner to wrestling in the jello. Consider yourself warned.

Now let me crank up the brand new phoakie karaoke machine. Here we go, For All the Girls I've Loved Before . Here Alan, you take the Julio Iglesias part, and Mick, you've got the hair for the Willie Nelson bit.

A one and a two...

O.K., O.K., O.K., I've had enough! This is the last time that you are going to use my guitar to stir the pool. Hell its full of jello up to the sound hole. That is bad enough, but the cranberry ice fish~~~~now I call that going a little too far. Now I'll have to spoon it out.....Hmmmmmm not all that bad tasting...

WOW! and I could have been coming here all along after work?? I'd like a stout please, Oh, and I brought some left over spring rolls, steamed chinese dumplings and sushi, now if you'll just let me at the popcorn, I'll get my strength up for karioki.

Now wait!! be careful, if you put too much jello in . . . oh well, we'll have to add quite a bit of warm water to get them out now. This must be the industrial strength stuff, guaranteed to hold even the strongest wrestler, (possum or not) imobile.

A search of the DT would have taken you about twenty seconds, and you'd have come up with these:

http://www.mudcat.org/@displaysong.cfm?SongID=3669
http://www.mudcat.org/@displaysong.cfm?SongID=3667
http://www.mudcat.org/@displaysong.cfm?SongID=3668

Someone as new to the site as you are is excused this time, but take a look around at the features before you start bringing up old, unrelated threads to ask random questions, please.

"Terse and efficient" is more like rude and irrelevant. If you're going to give someone hell for violating standards, consider that one of those standards might be reading the damned question.

Brucie already sent the chords on another thread this same person started on the same subject. Since the question has also been answered over there, I consider the topic closed. You can squabble here all you want about how long an answer should be, and what tone of voice you choose to read into it.
