Subject: Chord Req: Conjoined twins successfully separated! From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 27 Nov 09 - 06:23 PM In January 2008 Bangladeshi twins joined at the head arrived in Australia for surgery. They had a number of preliminary operations, and were eventually successfully separated in Nov 2009 after an operation that lasted 30 hours. The stronger twin Trishna was woken two days later, her sister Krishna two days later. Neither had brain damage. Jan 2008 - Twins to be separated in eight months Conjoined twin girls from Bangladesh are doing well, as surgeons in Melbourne prepare them for surgery to separate them. (photo) Trishna and Krishna were found in an orphanage by Australian Danielle Noble, who was working as a volunteer at the facility. She worked to bring them to Melbourne, joining with the Children First Foundation, to organise surgery at the Royal Children's Hospital. Ms Noble says the girls have managed to survive against the odds. "By the time they came to Australia they were quite ill, they had some serious medical complications," she said. "They had fought through that with no help, with no medical assistance, in the most basic of conditions. Now that they're here, we can't give up on them. The one year-old girls are joined at the head and share a major blood vessel from the brain. Surgery to separate them is expected to take place in six to eight months. From: Joe Offer Date: 27 Nov 09 - 06:26 PM Hi, Sandra- I take it you really didn't mean this to be a Chords Request thread, so I retitled it and sent it below the line. Or is it a 'cord' request? When the twins were born, did they have one umbilical cord, or two? -Joe- |
