Subject: BS: Hallball and other made up games From: Nick E Date: 28 Jan 10 - 07:10 PM As kids my brother and i invented a game built for the interior hallway in our home. We could close off doors and make an enclosed court for the majestic contest that was... HALLBALL! We would be on our knees at opposite ends of said hallway and swat the spaldini with our hands. Were the ball to get past us that would be a score. And what did you guys play? In college we played a Hackey-Sack/Tennis/Volleyball game during a tour of NY State parks |
Subject: RE: BS: Hallball and other made up games From: Ebbie Date: 28 Jan 10 - 11:09 PM My two brothers and I made up lots of outdoor games that all involved horses. Our dad was a horse trainer so horses were familiar. Let's see. We had: "Pony"horse "Stick" horse "Wire" horse "Leg" horse "cowboy"horse "war"horse and others I've forgotten at the moment. I think 'Leg'horse was my favorite- it involved galloping for miles. |

Mid-match scores remembered for months between serves, allus accurate too. No racquets, no balls, just air-tennis, but you had to be READY and able to return serve in mid-biz-lingo-chat without blinking or losing the chat. ~S~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Hallball and other made up games From: Ebbie Date: 29 Jan 10 - 11:18 AM There is a Spalding company that made/makes many of our basketballs, etc. Would that be a takeoff on it? |
Subject: RE: BS: Hallball and other made up games From: Desert Dancer Date: 29 Jan 10 - 01:12 PM Looks like a personal or local variation on "spaldeen", a small, pink, hollow-core, high-bouncing ball, made by Spalding. ~ Becky in Long Beach |
Subject: RE: BS: Hallball and other made up games From: MGM·Lion Date: 29 Jan 10 - 02:07 PM Thank you, Ebbie & Becky. I got no info from google at all, but some derivation from Spalding, an American sports goods manufacturer, well-known over here also, seems to provide a satisfactory derivation for the ball used in the game described. |
