Today's sports for me are perfect as Manchester United won 5-0 and go top of the League once again.

It doesn't get much better than this.....now to choose a good wine.....hic

Nice one Mike. I wish the Villa had won as well, but I suppose a draw away from home shouldn't be sneezed upon.

So a good day for me as well. :-)

England scored 14 points while Wales were a man down, and won by 13. Wales left their best long range kicker on the bench till the last few minutes while Hook (2) and Jones (1) missed kicks he'd have taken.

Sounds like a birthday present to me.

Hi Villan

I saw the hights of the Spurs v Villa game. They hung on well for a draw.

So it's now gloves off for Tuesday.

Villa beat us early this year at Old Trafford.....not many teams do that !!

I remember it well not just for the defeat but that night we went out for a Xmas meal with some friends, one of who is a Villa supporter. So from the moment the taxi picked us up ( he was in it ) until it dropped
us off at night I had to suffer my leg being pulled.

Villa v United games are always exciting as both teams play entertaining football. Looking forward to Tuesday.

Cheers

hi Dave

We can help it if Wales were useless. We can only beat whatever they put out to play us.

You forgot to mention that England's third try was an interception from a stupid pass by Stephen Jones.

Oh and by the way England scored 17 points while Jones was in the sin bin.

England will have no illusions about this game they were the better of two poor sides on the day.

Swing Low Sweet charioooooot

Sorry, it was 17 points, so that makes England XV 13 Wales XV 17!

Gatland should have replaced Cooper a lot earlier than 68 minutes - rather than one movement, he was picking the ball up, standing up, looking round and then deciding what to do!

As I said, a birthday present.

The Welsh always win the singing.

As a Villa fan living way too close to Manchester I'll try to get 'invited' to my Mum's for tea as they've got sky sports. If Villa loose, I'll turn my mobile off and if they win I'll have 'texters thumb'.

Arggghh - just looked and the match is Wednesday, my wife's birthday! Oh well.

The Blues just beat Wolves too - one place below the Claret and Blues now. Time to resurrect Godsvilla (any other brummies remember him?)!

GNU - check the papers. If it was 18-8 on the FRENCH channel, they might actually have got away with a draw.

Wasn't the Ireland/Italy game pedestrian? It really did become 'capuccino time' at the ruck.... England/Wales match was much more energetic, but nowhere near as frenetic as the France/Scotland game... although I miss the great long-haired French giant who ran down the length of the pitch like it was a hairspray advert.... I always hear the 'Black Beauty' theme in my head when I see him.

They were shown on BBC1 here, you may be able to pick them up on BBCiPlayer if you can get it. If it helps Gnu, it was the most energetic game of the three so far, and looked the most evenly matched - even if France did hold territory for over 2/3rd of the game.... Scotland fought hard and well, they were just unlucky.

Hi

That galloping frenchman was Sebastien Chaval.

Until this season he played for my local rugby club. Sale Sharks.

I watch them occasionally. I used to play for Sale many moons ago. But strangely enough I prefer watching football ( soccer).

I watch them when I can't get to see Manchester United. I have a season ticket at Old Trafford and go to as many away games as time and business allow.

Sebastien has returned to France and Sale have lost other players too since the credit crunch. So they are struggling a bit this season.

Matthew Tait and Mark Cueto played for England on Saturday. So Sale are still represented at the highest level.

Cheers

Mike

Looks like I will have to watch the Villa Man U match on the PC. Somebody will be televising it somewhere in the world. Good old Livefooty :-) Once watched a match of the Villa's through them and it was in Dutch. I was delighted as I understand spoken Dutch very well, so I could understand and I thought the commentary was much better.

Anyway I hope we don't give you any presents at all :-)

A bit of a disappointing game really - even though England won. I found myself showing my age and shouting at the TV! Too much slow ball at the breakdown again, although this has improved greatly from last year.
I also think that the BBC need to sort out the camera work for next time. The constant views from the revered "Spidercam" and the rapid camera movements made me feel quite sick!I like to see the view from behind the posts as the ball is kicked, or at leasat from close behind the player, but there were many long distance views which made it difficult to see the ball clearly. Thoughts anyone?

Hi Les

I think you are right. We don't expect any presents from Villa. What we expect will be a game a good football played in the best of spirits.....and may the best team win.....as long as it is Man U.....lol

I have been right past Villa park today. Our recently born grandson is in the Birmingham Children's Hospital and has been since January 6th.

He has been very poorly but things are looking up. Can't speak more highly of Birminghan Hospital and it's dedicated staff.

Best of luck for Wednesday.

hi paula

I agree with you about the camera work and indeed the general presentation. There is far too much concentration of "gimmics" and showcasing supposed technical advancements that it interferes with the TV viewers flow of the game.

At least they haven't yet got to having background music played under/over the commentary !!!

With regard to the game I thought England played better than of late and although they scored the points due to Jones being sin-binned, I felt they had looked superior before that point. The worry was as soon as they got a good lead they went on the defensive and nearly threw it away.

Nothing here for either team to be complacent about but I will take a win against Wales any time.

Regards

MikeL2

Oh, that spidercam.... it did for my vertigo, I had to look away most of the time when they were using it, I got quite sick at one point! Could explain the weird dreams I had that night, I kept dreaming I was falling over and over... bleurgh!

Chaval, thank you... never was good at names. Although I notice his 'hairspray ad' postition may well have been taken over by the big nonce who was injured in the first 30 seconds and was subbed after less than 5 minutes - he was very pretty!

And I'm not the only one noticing hair - during the England match, someone (?Low) was subbed and the commentator remarked that the amount of hair on the pitch had increased dramatically as this rather elegantly coiffeured brick outhouse walked out!

Hi Mike,
will be interesting to watch the development of the team. I don't think it is by any means the finished product, but that could be said about any team.
I hope Johnson is given a chance to build a good squad, like Woodward was. On one hand he is slated when he uses old hands, ("Not building for the future "),then he is slated if forced to use young players and the team don't play well. Many people want the young players to be "blooded" but they won't take the inevitable losses while they learn the game in a tough arena.Too many pundits feel they should use their power to attempt to influence team selection and even the hiring and firing of coaches.
Who'd want his job?

On a more serious note, I hope your Grandson is OK.

Paula

Gnu:

The reason you can't get the Six Nations on TV is because of the swine at Setanta, none of whom will go to heaven when they die. They buy up the rights to the games in North America and then sell it only to pubs who are willing to fork over the fantastic prices they charge for Pay per View. I know of only one pub in eastern Ontario that's willing to do that - the Heart and Crown in the Byward Market, where I will be this weekend with a bunch of other suckers, desperate for their Rugby fix.

I have it on good authority that the CEO of Setanta eats deep fried kittens for breakfast.

As for the game it was a case of could have, should have and didn't for Wales.

Hi Les

Many thanks for the kind comments regarding my grandson Samuel.

I am pleased to report that after several weeks recuperating after a heart operation he is recovering as well as can be expected.

He is now out of Intensive Care and in an intensive ward for two babies.
The prognosis is good and the first step is to get him feeding properly because for the last few weeks he has been fed through a tube.

Thanks for the concern

Cheers

Hi Paula

My you seem well up on your rugby...!!!

I agree with what you say - Martin Johnson can't do the right thing - whatever he tries he gets damned for it.

We had a promising start against a hapless Wales and I hope that it is something we can build on. We have to try to get back to playing 15 man rugby and not 10 man with the backs just looking on.

Too much depends on Jonny Wilkinson - injury prone though he is he is still the best matchwinner in the World.

I watched to whole of the France v Scotland they played some fantastic rugby and looked very ominous for the rest of the Six nations and then for some strange ( Gallic ) reason managed to make almost look like hard work.

I agree with your comment about blooding new young players. The secret is to do it slowly and not try to introduce too many too soon.

Many thanks for your concern and comment about our grandson Samuel.

You will see from my earlier message to Les that things are improving.

hi Lox

You don't have to tell me about Villa....I have always respected them and their abilty to entertain while playing open attacking football ( forget Wenger's comments ).

If both teams play the way they can it is going to be a great game to watch.

I know that Villa are on the up....but United too are gathering up a head of steam after ( for them ) a fairly ordinary start to the season.

Best of luck
