Subject: Lyr Add: COCONUTS FOR BRAINS (parody of J Buffett) From: Chet W. Date: 02 Aug 99 - 07:12 PM When performing at clubs, restaurants, etc I have often found that there are people who believe that you Must know songs by the only other person they've heard of that plays a "box" (acoustic) guitar, and very often that person is Jimmy Buffett. I got self-conscious about turning them down completely (and they would often get angry - "You must know that song! Why won't you play it for me?" - so I occasionally write a song like this. It has never been badly received. As I promised Rick in another thread: COCONUTS FOR BRAINS, from Buffett's new album, not even out in the stores yet. Out on the beach with the radio on Digging my toes in the sand Had to get out of the water again Is this a shrimp in my hand? CHORUS Co - co - co - coconuts I got coconuts for brains Don't know enough to come in out of the rain I got coconuts for brains Lemon and lime and a bottle of rum Burning a hole in my head If I don't take a hot shower tonight I think this tuna is dead REPEAT CHORUS Chords are just G C D G every two lines. Improvise generic Buffett tune. Feel free to use. Chet

Subject: RE: 'Substitute' request songs - Buffett From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 02 Aug 99 - 07:56 PM Chet, How nasty can you get? Yes, it is the next Jimmy Buffet tune. Big RiB |
Subject: RE: 'Substitute' request songs - Buffett From: Chet W. Date: 03 Aug 99 - 12:38 PM Thanks, Roger I don't think it's nasty, as in mean. And I have nothing against the Buffett, just never cared to learn his songs, and got tired of so many requests for them. So with this one, everybody goes home happy. I also have a Kenny Rogers song, working on a Garth Brooks song. They should be flattered, right? Aiming to please, Chet |

Subject: RE: 'Substitute' request songs - Buffett From: as_a_mauve Date: 03 Aug 99 - 01:24 PM Frankly, as a member of a dying breed (the polite listener/appreciative audience member), I think a heckler of any kind or sort deserves whatever the performer chooses to give him. So there ::grins:: |
Subject: RE: 'Substitute' request songs - Buffett From: Bert Date: 03 Aug 99 - 01:51 PM I agree with you as_a_mauve. Have you heard Billy Connolly deal with that heckler on 'Raw Meat for the Balcony'? Bert. |
