There was a Video Tape of Doc made by the Smithsonian Institute - I was there at the time, however I never did get a copy, despite looking everywhere.

'Frailing Banjo' by ERIC MULLER & BARBARA KOEHLER Pub MelBay - No ISDN number - But if you ask at Elderly Instruments they will get you a copy.

Clawhammer By Larry Peterson This one is not in print as far as I know - but if you look around ther are lots of others. Incidentaly Muller&Koehler shows you how to play Clawhammer and has a bunch of gureat tunes including Shady Grove, Little Sadie.

Doc UP PICKS little Sadie !!!!!!!!!

The best setting of the Cuckoo is in a Book by J Burke - published by Amasco Publishing. ISBN 0-8258-2801-6

I don't know of any tabs off of Doc's playing and I should think them a little tooo hard anyhow. Hope that helps :)

Thanks jo_77!!

Thanks for your help. I will try to find the tabs at those places...On question: What do you mean by UP PICKING little Sadie?

In my version of shady grove, cuckoo bird Merle Watson plays the banjo.. I think he was an amazing talant!! (I´m from sweden, and I don´t know any other styles than frailing and bluegrass... please explain.)

Thanks for your help!!!

Yuppers on Merle - unfortunately Merle was killed in an accident way back - real sad. Nowadays Doc sometimes plays with his Grandson :)

Up picking - err I have but one track of Sadie, it is played by Doc but he uses the standard folk 'Up' pick style. Like Bluegrass but no 'rolls' - sorta. This style is totaly different to 'down picking' as you are probably aware.

There are lots of exponents of the 'frail' downpick style - IMHO - Doc is the best :)

I do not play Bluegrass at all - I never did try too hard :) But I love the 'frail' and sing options that an open back banjo provides :)

Hi ! I am not an expert in english so please excuse me for that. I'm fond of Doc watson and I have a country band and a trio that you can see at http://electrogene.nfrance.com/ysite But... my request is : have you got the lyrics of "Sadie", this song with a refrain goin' like this Sadie, sadie oh what a lady... etc.
