Well, I was watching this earthquake guy on the TV last night and he said that there is a 94% chance that a major earthquake is gonna happen right under Amos's house!!!

Now I know that Sawz happens to think that Amos is a moron but seein' as I know Amos purdy good and purdy sure he ain't a moron I figurated that if he knew that the big one was comin' that he'd...

I've been wondering about this too. Look, Amos, we HAVE Starbucks and Chapters here in Ontario, Canada...here where it is safe and virtually earthquake free. True, the winter weather here sucks, but you can't have everything! I suggest you apply for refugee status ASAP. Tell our people that you're not allowed to own a wiener dog in California! They will sympathize and let you in for sure.

Thank goodness Amos won't be there when the quake hits under his house. Even a quake of small magnitude on rge Wreckeder Scale would be too much for him if his pond leaked.

Just looking at the map it's obvious to me that the Gulf of California is one big rift valley looking for more real estate, and San Diego is right on the track.

For more specific information on the North American continent (and mostly of the US) one might check out:

USGS National Seismic Hazard Maps, Data, and Documentation gives links to a broad range of information sources.

Note that neither of these links goes directly to a map, but only to links to maps so that you can take your pick for area of interest.

Lower 48 states maps and data is probably closest to general choices of things to look at for California; or using the links there, if you click on "maps" at the last link above you can pick lots of interesting ones, like:

2% probable peak ground acceleration for California and Nevada which is a pretty picture mostly of CA.

The last link probably gives the most immediate "picture" of the situation.

BTW... I have loads of water stored on top of my lawns. We Canucks are self reliant like that. Every winter, we store water for readily available use. I have an average of about 2.5m deep in crystalline form stored up on the lawns and there's another 0.2m to be delivered tomorrow night. I don't even have to order it... it is shipped to me automatically by Mother Nature... the bitch!

94 % change ...cool and how does , and where does he get that info from ?   tell you this earth is connected with sun magnetic poles what ever happens on the sun it happen here on earth in form s of earthquakes or some thing else like eruption s , our magnetic poles are moving
and yes earthquakes do happens once in a while .
I live in Iceland where we get eruption s and earthquakes and its quiet
right now , but things are unstable , do I worry yes a little but
I am not thinking about everyday every hour , and if some one tell us
that we are getting in next hours a big earthquakes yes I would listen and take action in my home , but my home is build stronger than most home in your country , my home are build to take over 9 on richter ..
and yes our land is not like yours ..

I think New England is on the same classification of fault that Amos sits on. It's just that our fault isn't active. The last MAJOR earthquake in New England was, I think, in the 1770s in Connecticut.

The first one I felt was in the late '70s when I was living in Cape Porpoise, Maine. 4 point something in the ocean off Kennebunkport. I thought the furnace was blowing up. The next local large-ish one was in 1981 when I was living here in Nottingham, NH. I've got the newspaper clippings from that one in my archives.

Amos has ar least one most excellent reason to consider moving to Maine, which is that I, his last living (and still acknowledged) sibling, as well as his first and still ardent fan, live in Belfast, ME. But he also has an excellent reason not to, which is that my deck (facing the beautiful Penobscot Bay) is still deep in snow.

I've escaped for a month to beautiful New Harmony, Indiana, so I'll get to watch spring spring twice!
