Finally, a medical report I can embrace. 2-3 drinks per day. That works for me.

Anorexia works great also, and you don't get drunk.

Drunk on 2 -3 drinks?

Interesting that the male contingent jumped in with both feet.

Maybe those stats are correct, on the average. But I got up to my highest ever weight a couple years ago, when I was drinking on average about 3 or 4 beers (or an equivalent amount of ETOH in wine) a day, and when I stopped drinking alcohol entirely, I dropped 5 lb.
right off the bat (or, more accurately, off the gut, waist, and butt) and another 15 within the first 4-6 weeks. I've kept most of it off, plus lost another 5 lb, since then, though I now drink moderately.   If I stopped alcohol totally again, I'll bet I would drop another 5-10 lb. without dieting. The alcohol really does have a lot of calories.

Don't be so reactive, Mary. If the thread title had said "Men Who Drink Gain Less Weight", I'd have been moved to make exactly the same comments as humorous asides. Because of some hangup about women? No. Because it was a good opportunity for a joke, that's all. Most of the jokes I make about both drinking (to excess) and smoking involve men, as you'll know if you read any of my tales about "Shane".

I have long yearned, as a matter of fact, to live in a world that was run by women, because I think it would be a far safer and saner place than the one we presently have which is almost exclusively run by men...rich old men, for the most part. I like women better than men, if I have to pick one gender to like better than the other, I find them (on average) to be somewhat more responsible, more perceptive, more dedicated to their work, more emotionally open, and generally more reliable.

I tried the Whisky diet once. Nothing but pure Malt for two weeks. I lost 6 days...

So, LH... are men and women truly different when it comes to the overall policy objectives and implementation of same effecting the goals of their societies, religions and cultures?

I dare to say no. I dare to say that women, if in charge as you propose, would do the same, UNDER THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES.

To tout differently is to do a disservice to your very gender, and to all humans.

Factly, you presuppose that females under the same pressures as males will respond differently.

They will not. They are human.

But, every now and then, a HUMAN comes along and rallies us all to balk at the establishment (heard that word in a while?). Whether he or she, WE should all balk, and not throw stones at anyone.... especially ourselves.

I too was being humorous, LH, with my reaction and my initial post. Gnu, whatever you're smoking I want some - for brownies. I don't smoke.

I think there are all types of people, from the best to the worst, in both genders, gnu. That's obvious.

However, my general life experience has resulted in me gaining the general impression that women are, as I said, on average somewhat more responsible, more perceptive, more dedicated to their work, more emotionally open, and generally more reliable than men are on average. Women are also generally less violent and much less inclined to commit most crimes.

Social statistics will bear me out on that. Women are the glue that holds any society together in peace and they ARE biologically different from men, just as female animals are biologically different from male animals, and demonstrate different behavioural patterns.

That's because both we and animals were designed to live in Nature, and the females were designed to directly sustain and protect the infants and small children...and that produces a somewhat different set of responses and requirements than are required of the male (most of the time) in Nature.

(This doesn't mean every female's destiny is to raise children! Not by any means. She can and may choose otherwise. But in simple societies close to Nature you will find virtually all the women are raising children...and they don't feel like they're doing themselves a disservice in so doing. They're proud of what they are doing.)

It also doesn't mean that men can't step into the female roles. They can. If necessary. And women can step into the male roles. I'm all in favor of either case, if the person is naturally inclined that way. But it does mean that there are discernable differences between the genders, quite aside from the obvious physical characteristics. One is Yin. The other is Yang. Yin and Yang are not the same, they are partners. And that's good!

To say this is not to insult either gender, it is to celebrate the best in both by celebrating the differences. As the French have long said..."Vive la difference".

If I happen to like the female side of humanity a bit better than the male side, that's entirely my own business. It's just a case of my own personal taste and preference, not some kind of political posture.

I've been railing at the Establishment for my entire life... ;-) I think it's part of the present establishment that makes a point of insisting that there are no differences at all between men and women. They find it easier to enslave everyone equally by pushing that sort of psuedo-egalitarian idea...and it sounds sooooo progressive! They like it far better when they can regiment everyone, force everyone out of the home, put everyone in the factories, and send everyone overseas to kill the "evil" foreigners, rather than just half of the people at any given time.

It's just Big Brother moving in on every last reserve of human privacy, and disguising it in the form of "liberation" as far as I'm concerned.

Remember when "Virginia Slims" had that aggressive campaign to sell women's cigarettes?

"You've come a long way, baby."

Yeah, right.........they're clever in marketing slavery.

A young neighbour pointed out to me that single women are generally skinnier than married ones.
His explanation? When a single woman comes home, she looks in the frig, can't be bothered, and goes to bed.
When a married woman comes home, she looks in the bed, can't be bothered, and goes to the frig.

So much cynicism in one so young.....

I think young women just have more motivation to be thin...they're (mostly) still looking for "Mr Right", and they don't want to disappoint him.

God knows, I was certainly looking for "Ms Right" when I was young, so I can understand what they're going through. ;-) I was sure that happiness lay just around the bend as long as I could find Ms Right!

Good one, Gurney.

Gnu: "I dare to say no. I dare to say that women, if in charge as you propose, would do the same, UNDER THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES."

As long as women can become pregnant and men can't, they will never be "under the same circumstances."

So last night I decided to put it to the test. Replaced all solid food with alcohol. The purging must be the key to the weight loss.

This is humor.

We really should get Shane in on this discussion. ;-) He claims to be an authority on women (cough)...but he actually IS an authority on alcohol consumption.
