Time for a new thread (?).

Well, last recorded winter here in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada that was this warm and dry was 63 years ago. Only saw night temps below -15C for about 5 days. We only had several heavy snow storms and the only reason they were bothersome was because of wind drifts and temps close to 0C which made for heavy shovelling.

At almost 3PM, it's sunny, 12C and no wind. And, St. Pat's day, when we usually expect nasty weather, is to be warmer.

Allow me to say thank you to our southerly neighbours on the Eastern Seaboard of the USA for taking all that bad weather they way did so far this year as it seemed to peter out or yaw out into the Atlantic Ocean before it reached us. I hope you keep up the selfless sacrifice for the rest of the winter season... and repeat next year... and the next...

Today Amos, the weather HERE is in the mid-60s and sunny and clear. This is the nicest day in months! I have raked and sorted PILES of branches and other debris from our 'interesting' Winter.

Actually, Bill, we had almost a week of gorgeous weather just before this latest spate of rain. How soon they forget! And this week promises to be at least as fine, with sunny-and-upper-sixties. Can't complain about that! Good on you for cleaning up all the branches and stuff; I haven't gotten around to that (too busy lazing on my deck in the sun...). Really, I was pretty lucky -- remarkably few branches to clean up. But I do need to get busy and get the mulch off the garden beds so they can dry out a bit and be ready for the peas to be planted.

Gloat if you must, Amos. At least we never get bored with the weather here. No earthquakes or mudslides or wildfires, either.

After spring having sprung from about the first week of January to the last week of February we wafted back to winter. Complete with high winds and lots of snow, although not as much snow as forecast. Planes couldn't get in or out of our airport and the wind was bitter.

Then spring returned about five days ago and the snow disappeared about overnight Today is bright and sunny.

Finally all of the snow has melted in the shady spots AND I have one crocus blooming and my daffs are about ready to...they started shooting up a few days ago. I love that promise of cheery yellow. It has still been getting unusually chilly at night; Rog has to scrape his windshield before driving to work every morning, but it's warming up to at least 50 degrees Fahrenheit during the past two days...shirtsleeve weather except in the shade because of a slight breeze which chills quickly. Then, it is supposed to turn cold and blustery with precip...what the heck, we need the moisture!

15C, sunny, and the breeze is actually warm. The snow is receding and the tulips are sprouting at a similar rate. The croci are in bloom. I am listening to spring calls of the birds. Life is renewed.

The ACs are just now in the windows at Mum's and at my house. 32C on my shaded thermal meter at present. Warmer tomorrow. Then, a forecast high of 13C on Wed.

I am hoping it'll be up and down for another month. I REALLY hope that after the full moon next week it doesn't turn hot and stay that way. I've seen summers last from early May to mid-October.

Registered 27C on the car gauge on way to and from friends' house this afternoon. A beautiful evening with a clear sky, and my yard thermometer is reading 22C at 8.30pm.

However, I believe it is going to drop considerably tomorrow...

Beautiful here in Juneau. kat, in mid-March you mentioned your daffodils- our tulips, daffodils and poppies are now in full bloom. Interesting what different climates we have, innit!

Different, but it's sommat we all share. Especially strangers, on the elevator, waiting in line, whatever.

And I do enjoy these threads. Learning what it's like in Alaska or Scotland or China... is interesting to me.

Me too, Bill.....cloudy and a bit showery in the morning, but a warm sunny afternoon, it was glorious.

Currently weather here (north-western NSW, Oz) is cloudy with rain forecast later. Things is a bit dry hereabouts so some rain would be welcome. Autumn leaves are dropping because we are into fall now and the colours are lovely.

Cheers

It's slow coming on to Spring up thar, isn't it, Ebbie?:-)

My perennials have been blooming one after another as they are want to do for the past month or so and look so beautiful. I love the delicate stalks of Flax and the blooms of an incredible blue; I have a beautiful Columbine blooming and my annuals in pots are all doing well. We've had mostly comfie day temps in the 70s and coolish nights in the 50s, BUT did have a couple of days over 80 (yuck!) and nights of 60s (not cool enough!) Pretty soon it will all be to darn hot and I will be so glad of the evaporative cooler.

We have also had dry winds the past few days 20-30mph with gusts from 40-60mph. The whole valley looks like a dust bowl with the mountains only dim outlines through the fog of dirt. Eyes itchy, noses running...rain maybe in a day or two, we hope.

That's the way it is in the Banana Belt of Western Colorado.

I've been living in the northeast Piedmont of North Carolina for 24 years now, and still haven't figured out what is typical weather. Late July and August are pretty much guaranteed to suck with heat and humidity, but little rain. The rest is a crap shoot.

Thing is, the same thing has happened back in the Kanawha Valley of West-by-god-Virginia during the quarter century I've been down here.

Ah well...Clear and warm/humid again today. I think it is due to drop about 6 or 7C during the week. I think it's going to cloud up, if the BBC website is to be believed. I am thankful for my electric fan!

I always maintain we Brits talk about weather as in "whether" or not it's going to rain!

We had a few days of hot but it's been rainy for a few weeks. Almost had frost a couple of days ago.

Just turned the ACs on... 32 and sunny and little breeze. My tomatoes love it but I fear for what may come after our early spring. I don't like hot weather. We'll just see what comes with the full moon on the 26th.

This is the period of time - between mid-April and the end of June - when Juneau has its driest, brightest weather so it's no surprise that is what we have had for the last few weeks. Lilacs, poppies and sweet rocket are in full bloom and the air is scented and warm. Our temperatures generally range from the upper 40s to the low 70s. Perfect for me- any time ambient air hits 75 and up I have little patience with it.

Where I am from, in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, I'm told that it's been a wet chilly spring this year. My brother in Salem told me last week they haven't even put in a garden yet; the ground has been too wet and heavy.

Well, well, well. Great winter here last year. Mild and short. Early spring. Moderately hot and muggy summer so far. By that, I mean, it's been nasty hot for not ALL that long.

But, after the last full moon, the change to a few HOT days and a few okay days has been noted. The clouds have changed to "fall looking" a lot of the time on the northerly winds.

About a week ago, the hummingbirds, which have not been around much, have been around and feeding voraciuosly.

For about a week, the crows have been screeching en masse before daylight.

And, today, there was/is a large flock of blackbirds in my yard. Blackbirds flocked on August 15. Early winter and a bad one coming up?

We are to get little in SE NB. 4" up north. But, they can't seem to forecast it right... must be shifting and spreading as it moves north.

Pouring, driving, persistent, steady, blowing rain. Who'd think chickens would require an invitation to go inside their house and out of the rain?

Kind of wet out there, eh.

It isn't 16 March, but it is March for all that. And dear Gnu is still talking about the weather, along with the rest of us.

In southern New England, the weather is toying with us. One extreme to the other and back. Like sucker punches. The weather is not bad today, but the coldest day of the entire winter season was the day before. So you wear multiple layers and do laundry frequently.

And I still keep looking up at it as if I expect it to fall with a crash.

It didn't fall; it blew sideways. The most recent winter storm was a high-wind event no matter where you were; it was the precipitation that was variable from spot to spot. But now the bone-dry blue sky is back, a fresh layer of snow covers lawns and roofs, and every paved surface that was not treated and cleared in time, is iced over, with or without snow in the ice.

Bee-dubya-ell disclosed on another thread that the naming of winter storms was a marketing ploy by the Weather Channel, or, as original poster Gnu calls them, the Weather Terrorists. That was news to me as well.
