Subject: Festivals in Brittany - know this man? From: Anne Lister Date: 11 Apr 10 - 05:31 AM I don't know if anyone can help here ... just had an email from an Eric Lostys in Brittany asking me to send him multiple copies of my latest album for friends of his who are organising Celtic/trad festivals in the region. I may be entirely wrong to suspect his motives and he may be totally legit, but I wondered if anyone else on Mudcat has come across this man and can either vouch for him or let me know more about him. PM me if you'd prefer to be discreet, of course. |
Subject: RE: Festivals in Brittany - know this man? From: Rob Naylor Date: 11 Apr 10 - 06:49 AM Looks like he's a blag artist: French site re Eric Lostys |
Subject: RE: Festivals in Brittany - know this man? From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 11 Apr 10 - 07:10 AM Probably a dumb question, but: what's a blag-artist? Is blag the same as blog? Anne is very fluent in French, but unfortunately I never got past the-pen-of-my-aunt-is-red stage! |
Subject: RE: Festivals in Brittany - know this man? From: Rob Naylor Date: 11 Apr 10 - 07:13 AM Two meanings, either robbery or cadging/wheedling something for free,as below: blag [blæg] Slang n a robbery, esp with violence vb blags, blagging, blagged (tr) 1. to obtain by wheedling or cadging she blagged free tickets from her mate 2. to snatch (wages, someone's handbag, etc.); steal 3. to rob (esp a bank or post office) I was using it in the sense of the "1" meaning...not suggesting he held a gun to anyone's head :-) |

Subject: RE: Festivals in Brittany - know this man? From: Suegorgeous Date: 11 Apr 10 - 07:32 AM Couldn't this guy get reported to the authorities, if he's giving out his address like that? seems from Rob's link like he's conning an awful lot of people... |
Subject: RE: Festivals in Brittany - know this man? From: Rob Naylor Date: 11 Apr 10 - 07:36 AM One of the posts on Page 2 of the link seems to say (my French isn't perfect but I think I got the gist right) that the poster has phoned his mother, ascertained that he's "up to his old tricks again" and sent him an email saying that he has the guy's full details...name, address, email, parents' names and phone numbers etc, and if he doesn't stop it, he'll make a formal complaint to the authorities citing the many other instances (including those on that site) he knows of as evidence of a scam. |
Subject: RE: Festivals in Brittany - know this man? From: Monique Date: 11 Apr 10 - 07:39 AM Rob, you got it right. |
Subject: RE: Festivals in Brittany - know this man? From: GUEST,Julia Date: 11 Apr 10 - 07:50 AM We've played a fair number of festivals both here and in the UK. In our experience THEY only call YOU if you know somebody involved in the organizing aspect or if THEY have seen YOU in concert. Otherwise YOU have to call THEM (usually many times) |
Subject: RE: Festivals in Brittany - know this man? From: Anne Lister Date: 11 Apr 10 - 09:42 AM Well, of course I know about the booking policies of festivals - it was Eric Lostys I was curious about. It rang a vague bell for me when I read his email, hence my enquiries (and I should have simply googled him, of course). Since then thanks to a couple of PMs, messages here and a message from my pal John Molineux referring me to a French music forum I'm fully informed and have sent him a message, saying that I'm aware of his past practices and would like to know precisely which festivals he thinks he can book me into. I don't expect a reply! Thanks, all of you! Oh, and he seemed to think I was a group, which was a bit of a giveaway (or I need to lose even more weight than I thought I did!). Anne |
Subject: RE: Festivals in Brittany - know this man? From: The Smiler Date: 11 Apr 10 - 10:58 AM Maybe he got you confused with this band Anne. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPxGM-dz-5U&feature=related |
Subject: RE: Festivals in Brittany - know this man? From: GUEST,Stefan Dietrich Date: 11 May 10 - 12:58 PM I got a similar E-Mail today: He wants our 4 CDs (!) for the friends who organize a festival in France (no date, no place mentioned). In my opinion this is a big piece of shit! So please don't send anything, neither will I. Stefan |
Subject: RE: Festivals in Brittany - know this man? From: Monique Date: 12 May 10 - 04:37 AM He's doing that in Spain and Germany too, I came across a Spanish forum where they complain and warn about him and a German one where they mention him. |
Subject: RE: Festivals in Brittany - know this man? From: GUEST,Timothy Cameron Date: 13 May 10 - 05:22 PM I got the same email, and after reading the posts here I'm about to reply... with a link to my iTunes page. |
Subject: RE: Festivals in Brittany - know this man? From: BobKnight Date: 13 May 10 - 05:41 PM I got one too, but haven't replied since I don't speak or read French. Thanks for posting the warning though. |
