Subject: RE: Chord Req: Steve Goodman-Six Hours Ahead of the Su From: GUEST,Mike Date: 03 May 10 - 12:11 PM Thanks BlueJay! I consider myself a halfway decent singer, and combined with my little brothers guitar playing we sound pretty good at Open Mics. I have at least one recording of the song on my Ipod, and I think another 2 more on Vinyl. A quick search of my itunes library for Steve Goodman comes up with 86 results. Yeah, I'm fairly obsessed. My girlfriend got me the Steve Goodman Bio for christmas. Great gift. Ebbie, I've seen a lot of his stuff on Youtube, and I've seen John Prine live. Great show; his voice has changed, but not for the worse. My dad saw Goodman live when he was a new college graduate living in Texas--he didn't know anyone there. Dad was from the same area as Goodman in the same high-school district. He said that seeing Goodman live at that point in his life was as if he had met an American in Russia. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Steve Goodman-Six Hours Ahead of the Su From: BlueJay Date: 03 May 10 - 11:48 AM Mike-- Here you go. Keep in mind, this is my interpretation, so YMMV. I hope you have a recording of this song to listen to, to help with timing and all. I think it's on a few of his albums. I must say that although you're a "relatively awful guitar player", I see a lot of hope for any young person who is an avid Steve Goodman fan. He has so much great material, and you can really learn a lot both instrumentally and vocally. Keep it up! My best regards, BlueJay Six Hours Ahead Of The Sun--Steve Goodman Intro: D--A--D-F#-Em, G--A D G A One more night in a transatlantic city G D A And the clocks all run on someone else's time G D And the streets run so close to the houses, G Em A But none of them run into mine. I never got to see him live but he obviously did a tremendous show. Check it out! And check out him and John Prine performing together. Lovely stuff. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Steve Goodman-Six Hours Ahead of the Su From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 02 May 10 - 09:21 PM Wish I could help, but I will post this to help keep your message in view. Weekends are often slow at the Mudcat. I'm a fan, too. I remember singing 'Old Smoothies' for my elderly mother. It made her cry. |
Subject: Chord Req: Steve Goodman-Six Hours Ahead of the Sun From: GUEST,Mike Date: 02 May 10 - 01:06 PM Well, I'm possibly the biggest Steve Goodman fan under the age of 21... Unfortunately, I'm a relatively awful guitar player. Can anybody help me with these chords? Also, should I start a new thread for requesting other songs by him as well? Great resource here, wish I had found it years ago. |
