Subject: RE: BS: Native American Wisdom From: Ed T Date: 14 Jul 10 - 02:51 PM Remids me of a similar story told by an east coast Canadian lobster fisherman, where the fishery is mostly seasonal. When asked what fishermen do all day, the fisherman said, " In the summer, we fish and have sex. In the winter, we don't fish." |

Subject: RE: BS: Native American Wisdom From: Jim Dixon Date: 14 Jul 10 - 03:11 PM The quote sounds bogus to me. I looked at Snopes and couldn't find anything so I submitted this as a topic for them to research. Watch this space. |
Subject: RE: BS: Native American Wisdom From: GUEST,999 Date: 14 Jul 10 - 03:13 PM Jim, it`s been aroung for over two decades. I first saw it framed in a friend`s bathroom about 20 years ago. (He`s Cree, btw.) That was in north Alberta. |
Subject: RE: BS: Native American Wisdom From: Melissa Date: 14 Jul 10 - 03:20 PM Here's another one I like..equally questionable origin, but I don't mind. TWO WOLVES One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all. "One is Evil - It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. "The other is Good - It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith." The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?" The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed." |
Subject: RE: BS: Native American Wisdom From: bobad Date: 14 Jul 10 - 03:28 PM When all the trees have been cut down, when all the animals have been hunted, when all the waters are polluted, when all the air is unsafe to breathe, only then will you discover you cannot eat money. Cree Prophecy |
Subject: RE: BS: Native American Wisdom From: frogprince Date: 14 Jul 10 - 03:41 PM Little Eagle and Gray Wolf sat a few yards apart on the shore of Chesapeake Bay, each with a fishing pole. L.E looked over just as G.W. reeled in a mermaid, unhooked her, and dropped her back into the water. He got up, strolled over to G.W., looked down and said "Why?" Grey Wolf just looked up at him and said "How" |
Subject: RE: BS: Native American Wisdom From: Tug the Cox Date: 14 Jul 10 - 03:42 PM OP actually sounds like racist and sexist nonsense. But as I know it's not original...I'll just have a chuckle at the sentiment. |
Subject: RE: BS: Native American Wisdom From: olddude Date: 14 Jul 10 - 05:16 PM I don't care if it is legit or not ... I think it is cool and kinda right on considering all the stuff we did throughout history to the land and other people |

Cree Prophecy <<<<< We're nearly there then.... Maybe the Cree should take over BP The Elders Speak |
Subject: RE: BS: Native American Wisdom From: Lizzie Cornish 1 Date: 14 Jul 10 - 05:42 PM From that link above.. "....in a sense, America is dying from within, because they forgot the instructions of how to live on Earth..Everything is coming to a time where prophecy and Man's inability to live on Earth in a Spiritual way will come to a ...crossroad of great problems. The Hopi believe, it is our belief that if you are not spiritually connected to the Earth and understand the spiritual reality of how to live on Earth, it is likely you will not make it...When Columbus came, that became what we term as the First World War...." |

Subject: RE: BS: Native American Wisdom From: Ed T Date: 15 Jul 10 - 03:47 PM A few years ago, I was fortunate to be invited to a Canadian Mi'kmaq community. I recall wise words of the spirital leader: "A problem with white mans society is the concept of ownership. This concept did not exist in most Native North American societies. Most had and have social or "cooperative" societies. People would be much happier if they recognize that they do not own their wives, nor their children, nor their land....they are only respectfully taking care of them for the next person, and the next life phase. Native people who have tried to live in white mans society have often seen frustration, as they try to take on the concept of ownership. It has led to many social and personal problems. Once they return to living the Native American way, with shared community values and respect for the elders, and with Native spirituality, they have often been relieved of this frustration." |

Subject: RE: BS: Native American Wisdom From: Arnie Date: 16 Jul 10 - 07:17 AM I see today that the Iroquois lacrosse team have been denied UK visas to particpate in a lacrosse competition here in the UK. The problem, as the bureaucrats see it, is that Native American passports are not acceptable travel documents - they are made of bark and skin. The Iroquois are entitled to Canadian passports but refuse to apply as this denies them their birthright, as they see it. You have to wonder what problems letting this team into the UK would cause? They're unlikely to claim asylum or attempt terrorist acts against the UK. 1-0 to the bureaucrats! |
Subject: RE: BS: Native American Wisdom From: Ed T Date: 16 Jul 10 - 08:23 AM More details: This relates to both USA and Canada, as the "iroquois nation" resides within both countries. "The U.S. government had said it would only let players back into the country if they have U.S. passports, a team official said. The British government, meanwhile, wouldn't give the players visas if they could not guarantee they'd be allowed to go home." http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2010/07/14/us-iroquois-lacrosse-team.html |
