Subject: Lyr Req: Lyric/Song Request - Makem & Spain Bros.

Hullo - I went last night to a concert of the Makem and Spain Brothers (brilliant, by the way), and they had one song in particular that I quite liked but cannot for the life of me find the title or the lyrics. They introduced the song with a story about their family coming to the US from Ireland, and that their uncle died at 29, supposedly from a broken heart at having left Ireland. The song itself was about wanting to go back to Ireland. I'm sorry that this is so very vague, but it was a lovely song and I would love to know what it is (and what the lyrics are)!

Thank you very much!

I'm sorry that I'm so vague about this, my brain is not cooperating with me today. There was, however, certainly a part about joining them in 'welcoming Paddy home'. Does that help at all?

Is this the song?

WELCOME POOR PADDY HOME 3/4 (Capo on 5th fret)

D      A       G    D
I am a true born Irishman
D         A         D
I'll never deny what I am
D              A            G          D
I was born in a sweet Tipperary town
D             A        D
Three thousand miles away

-Chorus-
D         A       D
So hurray, me boys, hurray
D             A              G  A
No more do I wish for to roam
D                 A              G        D
For the sun it will shine in the harvest time
D               A      D
For to welcome poor Paddy home

D                A      D
Now the girls they are gay and frisky
D              A       G A
They'll take you by the hand
D               A           G          D
Saying Jimmy mo chroi would you come home with me
D                A        D
For to welcome poor Paddy home

-Chorus-

Well, in came the foreign nation
And scattered all over the land
The horse and the cow, and the goat, sheep and sow
Fell into the stranger's hand

-Chorus-

Now Scotland can boast of the thistle
And England can boast of the rose
And Paddy can boast his old Emerald Isle
Where his dear little shamrock grows.

-Chorus-

That is indeed it! Thank you so very much! I am certainly in awe that you managed to figure out what I meant from my ridiculously vague description.

Happy to help, there are more verses than that however. It is a great song.

The Makem and Spain Brothers are truly The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem reborn to the earth.

O
