Posh and Becks fire their staff although they can well afford to pay them and -- I'm thinking of the gardeners here -- they do useful work.

During the Big Slump (circa 1935), my Granddad was a civil engineer with a good government job in England. He housed his family in a handsome 17-century ex-vicarage in a country village where he kept three in help -- a cook, a housemaid and a gardener. They were unassuming middle-class people; Granny was an excellent cook and a skilled housekeeper, he had three sturdy sons and a daughter all perfectly capable of running the vacuum and washing windows, and he was an enthusiastic and very productive gardener himself. But he could easily afford the wages and the villagers needed the jobs, so he felt obliged.

Now, let's be fair to the lass, popular, foolhardy, or otherwise, who married well. It's the Queen's personal money being put up, not that of the taxpayers. Seems reasonable that she would take care of her own,mistakes and all, as many do.

Some may say UK'ers pay dearly for having a Royal family. I suspect the Royals feel it is their fair due, as they acquired their position from forner royals, who pretty much owned or controled everything in the lands they reign over. Some would say it's reasonable compensation?

Is she wise and thrifty? Well, is that not you folks expect of your Royals, and hang-ons. It is much the same with "the Royals" in the USA....the entertainers and sports heros.

It depends what you mean by "education".

She notoriously unhappily attended a private ballet school, until the time her mother ran off to Argentina, and maybe longer. Later she attended "Queens Secretarial College" - which is in Kensington SW5 and seems to be a bit flash - but possibly actually teaches secretarial skills since Sophie Dahl who also later went there was once heard complaining in the street to her father Roald Dahl (himself a complete nutter) that she did not want to be a secretary.

Ok, point taken...though, it is likely a technicality to most of us. Since that point had to be made....she is likely "as Royal" as any of us mud folks could ever get to touch, or even have a direct encounter with a body part...if, the price was right.

I wager many folks would pay up to $500 USA bucks for the novelity to briefly kiss her foot, or even a footly digit. Rich folks would likely pay more, if the lower folks did not get to do it.

It could garner quite a sizable amount, if planned well....and would not be a major thing, since she is "not a Royal":)
