Subject: RE: BS: The No. One Chocoholic From: Bill D Date: 21 Aug 10 - 03:51 PM For awhile, there were versions of a greeting card with this gorgeous box of chocolates, and inside the message: "A five pound box of chocolate has been eaten in your name" |

Subject: RE: BS: The No. One Chocoholic From: Naemanson Date: 20 Aug 10 - 11:53 PM When I saw this thread title, The Number One Chocoholic, I naturally assumed it was about me. Oh well. MAYBE there are others who like chocolate out there so let's try this little test. You have a choice. Your favorite chocolate bar or breathing. Answer: I'm thinking about it. (This means you like chocolate.) Answer: Gimme the bar! (You are a chocoholic!) Answer: Let me breath! (You need help.) |

Subject: RE: BS: The No. One Chocoholic From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 20 Aug 10 - 02:17 PM It is doubtful that Kraft will change the recipe or the appearance of Cadbury wrappers. One does not destroy popular favorites. As posted above, it is doubtful that the price of chocolate bars will rise appreciably since the cocoa portion of the cost of production is small. |
Subject: RE: BS: The No. One Chocoholic From: olddude Date: 20 Aug 10 - 12:43 PM I love it .. one of my downfalls I was born with a chocolate tooth .. I could erect a diving board over a pool of the stuff ... dark, light, medium, with or without nuts, powered, bar, chunked, any shape. never met a chocolate anything I didn't like ... even white chocolate which isn't chocolate. OH YES .. Chocolate!! |
Subject: RE: BS: The No. One Chocoholic From: SINSULL Date: 20 Aug 10 - 12:13 PM Don't care for it much myself. But keep a bag of dark chocolate candies in the fridge for "those moments". Female thing, I think. |
Subject: RE: BS: The No. One Chocoholic From: mauvepink Date: 20 Aug 10 - 12:11 PM I had four small square left in my fridge last week that I would not touch. I am fine as long as I know I have some chocolate in the house somehere (purely for emergencies and medicinal uses you understand?) As a consequence I ate no chocolate for about 6 days... Golly gee by golly wow did I get a buzz when I ate those four pieces once I got new supplies in. I'm not addicted.... it's the chocolate that's addicted to me mp |
Subject: RE: BS: The No. One Chocoholic From: Bill D Date: 20 Aug 10 - 11:51 AM shelf life? Cool temps....wrapped up. "Oh, I'll just unwrap ONE piece to see if it's still fresh & edible" I buy ONLY on sales, and limit what I buy, 'cause once it's home, it gets 'checked' regularly. |
Subject: RE: BS: The No. One Chocoholic From: mauvepink Date: 20 Aug 10 - 11:43 AM Shhhhhhh.... I'm looking for ways to extend it's shelf life Who said anything about a party? ;-) mp |
Subject: RE: BS: The No. One Chocoholic From: Bill D Date: 20 Aug 10 - 10:30 AM Stockpiling chocolate? Wouldn't that be like stockpiling booze at a fraternity party? "Oh...I'll just have one teeny bite..." |
Subject: RE: BS: The No. One Chocoholic From: mauvepink Date: 20 Aug 10 - 04:56 AM ... Cadbury MUST survive! It simply must! Chocolate is proof that God loves us Maybe I should start stockpiling? ;-) mp |
Subject: RE: BS: The No. One Chocoholic From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 19 Aug 10 - 10:19 PM Kraft now has Cadbury. Saw an item in Wall Street Journal that this gives Kraft access to the Indian market. Kraft markets Baker's 100% pure chocolate, which we use in various recipes, as well as semi-sweet, milk chocolate chips, etc., in addition to its new Cadbury purchases. |
Subject: RE: BS: The No. One Chocoholic From: Emma B Date: 19 Aug 10 - 09:49 PM June 1905, Cadbury's launches its first Dairy Milk bar, with a higher proportion of milk than previous chocolate bars In Australia, Cadbury Dairy Milk was reformulated in 2006 and again in 2009, with the addition of palm oil as a replacement for some cocoa butter. (This occurred in conjunction with a weight reduction of the standard block from 250g to 200g.) The U.S. Food and Drug Administration does not allow products that replace cocoa butter with vegetable fat to be called chocolate. In the UK Cadbury's bar cocoa comes fourth after sugar, milk, and cocoa butter (Milk, Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass, Vegetable Fat, Emulsifier: 442, Flavourings) However the Black and Greens bittersweet dark chocolate bar, packed with 70% cocoa solids is now also owned by Cadbury's It is one of my favourite and your post strikes a little fear into my heart |
Subject: BS: The No. One Chocoholic From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 19 Aug 10 - 09:08 PM Anthony Ward has all but cornered the market in cocoa. Mr. Ward has placed a $1 billion dollar bet in the London market for cocoa futures, buying 241,100 metric tons of beans in July. He controls 7% of the market, enough to sway prices. Cocoa Trade Associations are upset. His firm, Armajaro, manages $1.5 billion in assets, and is the world's largest supplier of cocoa. Cocoa prices are up 150% since 2008. Since cocoa amounts to only 10 percent of the cost of an ordinary chocolate bar such as Cadbury's, etc., ordinary chocoholics needn't worry too much. "One Trader's Binge on Cocoa Wraps Up Chocolate Market," Julia Werdigier & Julie Creswell, NY Times, July 25, 2010. |
