We lost our two in the same year. Dug a hole in the fall as I had a feeling that we would loose her before the frost left the ground. I was right. Shanna died in Feb. and Stone in July. We have another one now that we rescued from the pound. ad. |

Subject: RE: BS: I Said Goodbye to a Great Hound Today From: Stilly River Sage Date: 29 Aug 10 - 02:29 AM It hurts to lose them, but your life was much better to have had her and taken the plunge to love her whole-heartedly. We can't not love things for fear of losing them. We have to love them while we have them, mourn their loss, and rescue the next great dog that is the perfect fit with us. Big hug, Pat, and though I'm not particularly fond of that Rainbow Bridge stuff, I know people mean well by it. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: I Said Goodbye to a Great Hound Today From: BlueJay Date: 29 Aug 10 - 01:40 AM Spaw, I empathize. We recently lost our Lucy, age four, to a surprise cardiac arrest on the vet's table. Doesn't matter how you lose them, it still hurts. Several died of old age, another hit by a car. Had to give one up for aggression, (to a pound) and one for housing circumstances, (to a good family). Took in a rescue dog last year, a pointer named Jack. GREAT dog. After a few months we had to part as neither our house nor yard can take a big dog for very long. Loved that dog. At least we were able to get him to one of those "no kill" shelters. The world would be a more stable place if the dogs lived for eighty years, and the humans lived for fifteen! Regards, BlueJay |
Subject: RE: BS: I Said Goodbye to a Great Hound Today From: Little Hawk Date: 29 Aug 10 - 01:06 AM Yeah, I know how that feels. It hurts like hell. I hope to meet my special canine friends after I go too. That's a kind of love that never fails. |
Subject: RE: BS: I Said Goodbye to a Great Hound Today From: katlaughing Date: 29 Aug 10 - 12:53 AM Oh, Peachesdarlin'...I remember when you got her and how much you loved telling us about her, her beauty, fun personality, her love, and her keeping everyone in their place. I've got tears running down my face...so good that Tris was there, but damn it is so hard to do the "right thing." Our Merlee is 14 now and quite spry, though he's gone deaf...never know how much longer they will go on. Bunches of {{{{HUGS}}}} for you all from Rog and me, luvyakat P.S. If there is a Rainbow Bridge, I don't think you'll have to settle for just one; I think they will ALL be there. |
Subject: RE: BS: I Said Goodbye to a Great Hound Today From: Rapparee Date: 29 Aug 10 - 12:00 AM Sorry, Spaw. Look at it this way: you got Someone Upstairs watching over you now. As I've said before, if they don't allow dogs in Heaven I ain't goin'. 'Course, there's doubt I will anyway.... |
Subject: RE: BS: I Said Goodbye to a Great Hound Today From: olddude Date: 28 Aug 10 - 11:44 PM I am so sorry Spaw, that is one of the hardest things in the world to go through. Every dog I ever lost was a gut wrenching ordeal for me and my family. They are part of us, like kids and when you have to put one of them down it just hurt right to your bone marrow .. I am sorry buddie. I got an old wiener dog my doolie and I just dread the day that happens and it will not be too long from now either. He is very very old and although the vet says he is still in good shape it can change anytime at his age .. I am sorry buddie |
Subject: RE: BS: I Said Goodbye to a Great Hound Today From: Amergin Date: 28 Aug 10 - 11:11 PM YOu know, I wish these special furry friends we bring into our lives, our homes, our hearts, our families could live as long as we do....then we wouldn't have to suffer the heart break of saying good bye so often. Making that decision is awfully hard, because it is the right one....you done right by her...I am sorry your heart is hurting right now, mate. |
Subject: RE: BS: I Said Goodbye to a Great Hound Today From: Ebbie Date: 28 Aug 10 - 10:37 PM Gads. Do I ever know what you are going through. I 'lost' my Cairn a couple of months ago and I still cry. {{{{long hug}}}} |

Subject: RE: BS: I Said Goodbye to a Great Hound Today From: Maryrrf Date: 28 Aug 10 - 10:32 PM Spaw, I am so sorry to hear this. I know how it feels, and there's nothing right now that can fill the void. My condolences. |
Subject: RE: BS: I Said Goodbye to a Great Hound Today From: Jeri Date: 28 Aug 10 - 10:30 PM Spaw, I'm sorry she couldn't live forever, and glad you belonged to each other. I'm not sure, but I think you got her when you were on Mudcat. I sorta remember. Maybe just a story in my head. In any case, a big hug from me. |
Subject: BS: I Said Goodbye to a Great Hound Today From: catspaw49 Date: 28 Aug 10 - 10:13 PM Its been coming for over a year. Weimaraners rarely live past 12 and she was a bit over 14. Sissy was the best dog I that ever owned me. We got her through a rescue as it was so rare to see a long haired Weim in Rescue and she was a perfect match for Jaeger and almost the same age. When we went to visit her, it was almost classic. We looked at each other and we came to an understanding on the spot. She loved the family but from the gitgo she was "Daddy's girl." Big Sis was the strongest alpha female I had ever encountered and made sure other dogs including poor Jaeger treated her as the Queen she thought she was. I loved that hound like none other. She used to go everywhere with us or just me and was a hit at every drive-thru I frequented. She was beautiful and knew how to charm folks. She loved stopping at Tim Horton's where she got a fritter......she could recognize Tim's as we came up and if I passed by she barked at me. In the past year when she has been too frail to travel she would see us come in with a Tim's cup and politely sit in front of us and bark! "HEY! YOU got coffee----Where's MY fritter?" Like any other dog lover I have a thousand tales about her but I'll not go there. Most of us love the Rainbow Bridge idea and I'd like to believe it too but, uh....................In any case, if there is a Rainbow Bridge somewhere, somehow, and if only one dog of our lifetimes can show up, I am sure that Sissy will be the one waiting for me. Tris went with us to the Vet's today and stood behind us saying "Goodbye Sissy" several times as they did the injection. It was a tough experience for him but one he needed and he's better with it all now. LOL.......I'm not................I know I owed it to her but it just sucks. Damn...........Whoever it was that said a dog's only fault was that they didn't live long enough knew of what they spoke........still sitting here crying.................geeziz I loved that girl........ Spaw |
