I thought that I would start a new thread on this one to update her current situation. Marian was sent home from the hospital in Ashford a couple of weeks ago, but was still having problems with breathlessness and was waiting for a bed at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London. She has gone into the hospital today (Monday 29th November), and was expecting to be in there about 10 days when I spoke to her last night . According to her husband this evening the hospital will be starting tests tomorrow in order to try and find out what is causing her problems. She was originally expecting to be in the Victoria Ward, although I gather that she is not in the ward proper. If anyone was thinking of visiting then it's probably best to check with them on times and Marian's actual location.

Thanks Surrey Singer. I really hope they can sort this out for Marian as this has been going on far too long now. My thoughts and fondest wishes are with her.

Thanks Irene. Hope Geoff can get into London: it snowed overnight, and Kent is gridlocked - as usual! The Ashford-St Pancras line is also badly affected.

Thanks all. Gadaffi, I think Geoff is intending to go down and visit at the weekend. (I think Marian has instructed that he doesn't need to keep going up to town to visit) ... and I will certainly pass on the Gadaffi family good wishes (and those from the camels). I will, of course, pass the messages on. (Guest - I'd love to put a name to your message!! grins). Obviously I'll update as and when I get any further information through. I'm hoping to go visiting at the weekend myself .. subject to the weather of course!

As it happens, I've just been discharged from the Brompton last Friday. Marion should be in safe hands there as they impressed me as real professionals. Oh, and the food is pretty good for a hospital!! My best wishes to Marion and hope they find out what is causing her health problem and are able to fix it.

Thanks Irene. Can Marion speak on the phone ? Most of the London Hospitals have the facility for bedside commuinication these days.

The information I had from their website was that there were two phones on the ward that the patients could use ... so it sounds unlikely. Truth to tell at the moment she seems to find talking on the phone quite tiring - mind you the enforced rest in the hospital might help that ! :-) If I find out any more about phones etc, I'll post it up here.

I will try to get over to visit her once the snow clears.Although the snow has cleared fron central London it is still lying thickly in my area and the trains are erratic and stopping early.

I've just spoken to Marian. She is actually on Foulis Ward, and can accept incoming phone calls (but can't ring out herself). She's quite happy if you want to ring her (020 7352 8121), but did say that she won't be able to talk for long, as she tends to get a bit breathless after a little while. The ward has open visiting up till 8pm at night. I have read all the messages out to her, and she asked me to say thank you to everyone.

I'm happy to say that she sounds a bit more cheerful - and said the staff are more concerned, involved, and treating her like a person. They have been running various tests (much the same ones that they did in Ashford), but she sounds more confident that they know what they're up to.

I'm hoping to go visiting on Saturday (subject to weather and travel conditions, of course!!)

Nic - sadly I don't... and on last asking I don't think Marian has a portable CD player, as I was threatening to burn off my recordings of the various sessions at Sidmouth that she had missed for her to listen to. I might be able to get a recording from a friend though. I agree - I think she is highly unlikely to make it to Dungworth now. Thank goodness she made it into the Brompton before the snow descended - she certainly wouldn't have been able to get there now!!

So glad tht Marian is feeling better about her care. Itdoes help when you can have a degree of confidence about your treatment. I'll note down the phone number and give her a call. Getting up to London from Orpington is at present impossible as there are no trains running.

One thing re the phone number - that takes you onto the ward, and not direct to Marian, but there is no problem in getting to speak to her.

I have just spoken to Marian in hospital again. She had thought that she would be out on Wednesday, but as they are conducting further batteries of tests it looks as though it may now be unlikely, In the circumstances she is very behind with any Christmas plans, and is unlikely to be able to deal with her Christmas card list.

She has therefore asked me to wish a "Happy Christmas" to all her friends on here, and has asked me to say thank you very much for all the kind messages she has received from you.

Hi Kampervan. I spoke to her the other day (and will probably give her a ring tomorrow). She's now out of hospital and at home. The doctors are about 99.9% certain that they know what is wrong with her and has been causing her problems, but still have a few more tests to do after Christmas just to be absolutely sure before beginning treatment. If it turns out to be what they think (and I don't propose to start posting here at the moment until they do make a final decision, and she says that is OK) then it is treatable with medication, and she will be going on a research programme at the Royal Brompton (which is good news as they will keep full tabs on her). In the meantime she earlier wished everybody a Happy Christmas - because of all of this she is well behind with any Christmas organisation, and hasn't been able to send out any Christmas cards. She is very appreciative of everybody's support and good wishes though ! More news as and when I get it.
