Subject: Marion Button ill From: Dave Masterson Date: 16 May 06 - 06:05 PM Marion Button is unwell with an attack of shingles. She is in hospital at the moment, the docs say she will be in for about another 8 days. As most folk know, shingles can be very painful, but she is in good spirits, though frustrated she cannot now get to some of the events she had planned to! |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: Richard Bridge Date: 16 May 06 - 06:31 PM I had shingles some years ago - I think the pills I had were called Zovirax and they controlled what could have been a very nasty viral infection to nothing much worse than a mild flu. But the doctors should know about that. Is anyone adminstering her stock of her "Button Box" CD? It was magnificent and I gave my copy away to a festival organiser in hopes, so I need to replace it. |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: Herga Kitty Date: 16 May 06 - 06:59 PM Best wishes for a speedy recovery and return to festivals etc Kitty |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: Dead Horse Date: 17 May 06 - 12:25 PM It aint shingles you got ta worry about Richard. Its missing slates :-) (getting into Heckle Mode for Saturday) My missus just had a nice dose of the shingles courtesy of a parent sending her child in to school with Chicken Pox! The old girl got over it fairly quickly but she looked 'orrible an' nasty for a while, all covered in that Chammoline Ocean, she was. And it stunk summat awfull it did! I too got a copy of Button Box which Marion keeps offering to buy back off me, in case I dont like it!!!! But then Marion is like that, huh? |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: melodeonboy Date: 17 May 06 - 12:54 PM As above, best wishes to her. I was leaving the Good Intent during the Sweeps Festival just as she was arriving so I only managed to hear the one song from her. I hope I'll have the chance of hearing more soon. What's all this about the "Button Box" CD? If it's what I think it is, can someone get me a copy? |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: Richard Bridge Date: 17 May 06 - 01:07 PM No, melodeonboy, it's Marion singing unaccompanied, not people with bionic bras... |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: growler Date: 17 May 06 - 04:54 PM Get well Marion There's no bug that can take your voice off the top of my list Keep Singing Simon |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: Girl Friday Date: 17 May 06 - 07:39 PM Sorry to hear about the shingles Marion. Get well real soon mate. It's been a long time since we saw you at Friday Folk! |
Subject: RE: Marian Button ill From: GUEST,Surreysinger Date: 17 May 06 - 08:03 PM I was supposed to have been going to the Keith Summers weekend with Marian on Saturday... now sadly not the case. According to the conversation that I had with her husband yesterday she is beginning to feel a bit perkier, although she apparently looked and was pretty ropey at the beginning of the week. Re the CD's Richard, Marian is the one who has control of her stock . I'm hoping that I might get to speak to her before the end of the week, so if I get the chance I will pass on the messages/ requests (if they haven't already got to her by other means) when I do. (Marian herself doesn't have access to the internet!). Irene Shettle |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: GUEST,Surreysinger Date: 17 May 06 - 08:06 PM Forgot to say - she actually spells her name with an "a", not an "o".........I always was an irritating pedant (huge grin!) |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: GUEST,jojofolkagogo Date: 22 May 06 - 07:34 AM Marion, oh dear, !!! Hope you dont suffer too much, with it and hope you recover VERY soon. See you around and hear your lovely voice very soon. We had a good ol' chin-wag at Sweeps, so hope to have another one where-ever ... Best regards from Jo-Jo (jojofolkagogo@yahoo.com) |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: The Barden of England Date: 22 May 06 - 10:30 AM That's painful that is. I hope you're feeling much better now Marian, and hope you'll be well enough for the 4th Pig's Ear Kentish Horse Folk Ale, Cow Lane, Markbeech, Kent, so I can hear that lovely voice of yours again. By the way Marian's 'Button Box' CD is a treasure - I would urge you to get a copy the next time you see her. John Barden |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: GUEST,Surreysinger Date: 22 May 06 - 12:59 PM (Still can't get my password sorted out!) Rumour (alias Marian's husband) suggests that she may be out of hospital in the next day or so... but no doubt pretty exhausted, from all I hear of people who've known people who had bad cases of shingles. |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: GUEST,flyingcat Date: 22 May 06 - 02:00 PM Must have been really bad to have been admitted to hospital I can assure you. Hope you recover soon Marian, Take good care, Moira X |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: Richard Bridge Date: 22 May 06 - 08:22 PM Now you are on the mend, Marian, speedy and complete recovery. The worst bits will tend to nag you when you are tired, for several years, but you do learn to ignore them. |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: growler Date: 23 May 06 - 03:32 PM Marion I hope you are feeling better, but I've written a version of 'She Moves Though The Fair ' that will set you back weeks |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: Dead Horse Date: 23 May 06 - 04:12 PM After all that hospital food, you should be a little lighter, man! :-) |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: SunnySister Date: 23 May 06 - 07:47 PM Hi there- So sorry to hear that she has been stricken by shingles. I have had a chronic case of them off and on for most of my life. A few things she might consider when she is released: if she isn't, she should talk to her doctor about being put on a maintance dose of Acyclovir (it's Zovirax but I believe a less strong version but don't quote me on that). I'm on it 400mg three times a day. When things get bad and there's an outbreak, I go up to the max of 5 times a day. She should, when she feels like she might be coming down with a cold (when the immune system dips is when Herpes likes wakes up from it's dormant state) take a combination of the amino acid L-Lysine (it's used to starve a virus back into dormancy) and keep away from foods with L-Arginine (it's said to feed viruses)such as such as chocolate, peanuts, almonds, raisins, seeds, cereal grains and gelatin. I also found that a high dosage of Echinacea and Golden Seal (four days on three days off, and do not take these on a daily basis as your body gets used to them quickly and they become useless). Take all of these with lots of water and some sort of food. Pumping the immune system up with these, plus LOTS of rest will assist her in the future. Sending her and anyone else who suffers any sort of horrible herpes virus my best... I have Herpes Zoster/Simplex in my right eye since I was twelve so I am an expert sadly. If she needs to talk or get further information, just PM me. -- SunnySister, who has truly had some dark, low moments fighting this |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: Surreysinger Date: 23 May 06 - 07:52 PM Marian came out of hospital on Monday night, and, to use her own words, is "a bit weak and watery". As flyingcat said yesterday, it's going to take her quite a while to recover, as her bout of shingles was extremely severe, so she'll be taking it easy for quite a while. Needless to say, she was quite surprised to hear that she'd been the subject of discussion in this place (!), and has asked me to thank everyone for their good wishes and concern and for the cards which she has received while in hospital. She sounds chirpy (considering her circumstances), and frustrated at not being able to attend several events that she had had lined up. I read out the messages on the thread so far to her, but at that point the messages from Growler and Dead Horse hadn't materialised... I'll let her know!! :-) irene |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: Mary Humphreys Date: 24 May 06 - 04:55 PM Irene, please pass on to Marian Anahata's and my best wishes for a speedy recovery. Can you post the information about Marian's CD somewhere so we can find out how to get one? Mary Humphreys |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: Surreysinger Date: 24 May 06 - 06:15 PM No sooner said than done, Mary. I'll give her a ring tomorrow (Thursday)about that, and also ask her what arrangements she wants to come to re the CD's.... so watch this space!! (If anybody wants me to let her know that she has an order for a CD, perhaps you'd like to PM me with your details, and I'll try and sort something out with her.) |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: jojofolkagogo Date: 01 Jun 06 - 01:30 PM Well its now 1st June and I for one sincerely hope that Marion is back on the mend, GET WELL SOON MARION !!! Best regards from Jo-Jo |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: Surreysinger Date: 01 Jun 06 - 03:58 PM Jo-Jo, I spoke to Marian on the phone this evening, and she is still very poorly, and having to take things _very_ easily. At the moment she is getting very frustrated at not having the stamina or feeling well enough to attend events, like the Pigs Ear Folk Ale at Markbeech this weekend, which she would dearly love to be at. I'm sure that anyone who knows her will appreciate just how much she loves to be up and doing, and how fed up she is at the moment as a result of the illness. (Must be the first time I've phoned her when I haven't heard her singing while on her way to the phone! < grins ruefully>) I read out all the messages which had been received here to her at the beginning of last week, including yours of 22 May, and will be speaking to her at the weekend, and will pass on your new message, of course. Irene |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: Surreysinger Date: 01 Jun 06 - 04:01 PM Forgot to say, following on from Mary's message a few days ago, I've spoken to Marian about her CDs, and she has a few left. Cost is £10, including post and package in UK. If anyone wants to buy one, please PM me and I'll pass on contact details etc. Irene |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: Richard Bridge Date: 01 Jun 06 - 04:36 PM Marian, we will miss you at Markbeech |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: LilyFestre Date: 01 Jun 06 - 04:43 PM Get well SOON, Marion Button (I LOVE YOUR NAME!!!!)! Michelle |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: jojofolkagogo Date: 02 Jun 06 - 08:19 AM Surrey singer IRENE Many thanks for the up-date and please keep telling Marian "chin up" hopefully it wont last forever !!! All my best to her, and thanks once again ... Jo-Jo |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: Surreysinger Date: 19 Jun 06 - 11:47 AM Just to say that Marian and I went to the Dorset Singing Weekend in Stourton Caundle this weekend gone, and she is back in good voice again. Inevitably she's still suffering problems from her illness, and quite tired, but she's back to singing. For anyone down in the Maidstone neck of the woods, she will be doing a 45 minute set at the Pilot in Maidstone tonight (Monday 19th June). Go and say Hello!! |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: vectis Date: 19 Jun 06 - 07:01 PM I'm sooo happy to hear that Marian is on the mend. Give her my love and wishes for a steady and swift recovery. I hope she'll make the Sussex song and ale after all. |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: The Barden of England Date: 20 Jun 06 - 02:19 AM Marian was in good voice and was looking good last night at 'The Pilot' in Maidstone. She let me know that she is booked for Whitby Folk Festival - they certainly have great taste is all I can say. John Barden |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: Surreysinger Date: 20 Jun 06 - 05:32 AM I'll pass the message on Vectis! John - she reckons her voice has improved thanks to the antiviral drugs she was on, which have hopefully knocked on the head all the bugs she's been suffering from in the last couple of years, she thinks... - but unless things have changed overnight since I spoke to her she hasn't actually got a booking (as such) at Whitby as yet! |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: Richard Bridge Date: 20 Jun 06 - 05:36 AM I think we should all gang up on Miskin Man and persuade him Marian would be good at Miskin next year - her voice ringing off the acoustics there would be very fine indeed.... I did leave him her CD, but he sounded as if he might need firmly telling what a fine person Marian is and how well she would socially fit in down there too.... |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: GUEST,synbyn Date: 20 Jun 06 - 06:32 PM Glad to say that Marian was fit enough to guest yesterday at the Pilot in Maidstone and a good time was had by all! |
Subject: RE: Marion Button ill From: GUEST,Guest, Judy Date: 23 Jun 06 - 08:25 PM I picked up Marian's CD at the John Waltham weekend but unfortunately it is one of the problematic ones and not all tracks are included or cannot be played. I am sure I will be able to exchange it at Whitby in August but am not sure if I can wait that long? I fully understand that you are probably reluctant to make private addresses and telephone numbers public domain but if surreysinger wants to contact me through the Whitby Folk Week office I am assured that will be OK.
