Subject: BS: Tony Blair lied to us . . . surely not
From: Brian May

"WikiLeaks documents that disclose how British ministers secretly advised Libya on securing the successful early release of the Lockerbie bomber demonstrate that Tony Blair's Government was "playing false" over the issue, Alex Salmond has said."

I find it so hard to believe, Tony (everybody's mate) lied to us all regarding the release of Megrahi (if that's spelt correctly).

Mind you, I'm relieved that it's the only lie he told. I might have lost my faith in the honesty, integrity and conduct of politicians of all hues otherwise.

Invertebrates, the lot of them. It's back to 'How do you know a politican's lying? His lips are moving'.

Oxygen thieves.

I disagree. I think its very weird shit.

You can see how its happened. Countries collude with each other. Moslem countries tell us how to work the system and get these businessmen out who have been brewing beer and find themselves in conflict with Sharia law. I guess the officials thought to themselves it was a case like that.

Whats different of course it, on the face of it, they've set free a mass muderer.

Which makes you wonder. Did they think he'd really done it? After all he wasn't convicted in Britain. We don't usually do punishments for other bodies.

Or perhaps they just didn't give a damn, as your post suggests Brian. All they could see was the benefits of a moderate and prosperous Libya - behaving itself, and it seemed a small price.

Yes he was convicted in Britain.

Let's cut to the chase and confront the biggest lie of all, that he did it. And, while we're at it, the biggest injustice - that the real perpetrators of the bombing are still free because we stopped looking for them.

If Blair knew better, he'd be doing his bit in Scotland, as a member of the S.N.P.

I thought that the information coming from Wilileaks made it clear that ALL politicians lie to us - not excusing Blair; his lies killed thousands, and are still doing so.

He was tried in the Netherlands under Scottish law in a bizarre compromise with Gaddafi, who proferred him as a sacrifice in the cause of improving his standing in the west.

I don't see how anyone who took the trouble to look at the evidence in this case could conclude that Megrahi was guilty. Thanks for posting the link Steve.

Well, Moe had to pay for the weapons of mass destruction (corruption?) that were sprited to Libya in the dead of night before the invasion of Iraq. The weapons were not found in Iraq because they were not there.

I see BP has been setting up operations in Libya for a while now... imagine that.

He was only lying when his mouth was open.

Sorry, Alan, I confess to having been not entirely clear about that myself. I am now!

Integrity of politicians is important, perhaps even paramount.

However, it does make doing business with countries where those in charge are corrupt a bit of an issue. In 1997, Robin Cooke promised an ethical foreign policy. When, a few years alter, he concluded this was not possible, he resigned from government. A honourable man. I might not have agreed with him on many things, but when he died, we lost a statesman.

So... do we have an ethical policy and refuse to barter with crooks when appeasing them is in our national interest, or do we accept you can't make a mud pie without getting your hands dirty?

I prefer honesty, but at times I feel I am being idealistic rather than practical.

Oh, integrity of politicians. Some may recall The Lords has been sitting all night sessions lately in order to filibuster the government. All night, except a 5 mins recess in the middle of night. Why? in order to call it two sessions instead of one, so they can claim two days attendance fees.

Makes you proud to be British eh?

Of course he lied to us. I get a lot of mileage from the time he shook my hand and said "Good morning." it was 2.00pm. The bugger couldn't even get that right.
