I hope you got signed permission slips from all of the busy bodies and thread topic police before you opened this can of worms! LOL

I'll be a little more interested in this draft than most. My home state team. The Carolina Panthers pick first and I am interested to see where Cam Newton is selected. I'd like to see the Panthers pick Newton but only if they can trade their number 1 pick for someone else's first and second round pick or something similar.

We don't need no stinking slips. Or any posts about anything other than Yankee football. Oh, yeah, we might have the stray rant, but lets get ready for some football eh?

I heard the Pats just attached the franchise tag to Logan Mankins. He probably doesn't much like it but hopefully it will lead to a long term deal. That man anchors the Patriots O-Line.

Logan Mankins and Matt Light are indispensable. Did I spell that big word right? We NFL fans are a bit dumb. It's all just brutish violence, don't you know.

Let's not forget the Patriots have six picks in the first three rounds of the draft this year. There's gonna be a lot of interesting things going on. Bill is always two steps ahead of the competition. Or four.

The Last time we had a good pick(#1) we picked Alex Smith instead of Arron Rogers (Supperbowl winner)

Oh with that organization I think as long as all the coaches and scout staff remains in place you will always be a contender. Tommy has a lot of years left before his career is done and those receivers are always first class. In addition the defense is strong but needs a little work. You will see that next season I think. They will beef it up this draft pick.

Too bad about Neal retiring. He was one of the best guards in the NFL. I thought he had many more years ahead of him but then again I don't play the game.

...I been workin' out... Got my 100 yard time down to under 18 seconds and 40 time at right at 7 seconds...

Who knows???

Maybe the "Replacements" might be entertaining... I mean, I could moon the crowd at half-time... Maybe they let me play a little blues???

What about cheerleaders? Put SINS in charge? She seems cheerful enough.

And let me try with treasured teams

To show you everyone
It's the time of the season for FOOOOOOTBALL!

Saints or Packers?

I see Manning may miss starting this weekend... first time in regular season. 227 straight including playoffs... second only to Favre (who still doesn't know how to pronounce his name).

I hadn't realized Manning was MVP 4 times. I like his commercials too.

No doubt you are right Rap.

The Cheeseheads screwed this up (just read the last few lines)...

#         Date        Sport        Game        To Win        Odds
1        September 8, 2011        Football         NEW ORLEANS at GREEN BAY         NEW ORLEANS         3.60
3        September 11, 2011        Football         INDIANAPOLIS at HOUSTON         INDIANAPOLIS         6.30
7        September 11, 2011        Football         PHILADELPHIA at ST. LOUIS         ST. LOUIS         3.60
10        September 11, 2011        Football         MINNESOTA at SAN DIEGO         SAN DIEGO         1.40
12        September 11, 2011        Football         CAROLINA at ARIZONA         CAROLINA         4.70
15        September 12, 2011        Football         NEW ENGLAND at MIAMI         MIAMI         4.70

You Could Win
2525.05 x $2.00 = $5,050.10
TOTAL COST: $2.00

Go ahead and laugh... I have knocked some of these out of the park. Of course, I balanced that one with a very good chance at about $30 on a $2 bet.

I would bet on them even money for every remaining game individually.

The odds of them winning any one game is, depending on the opponent, between even odds (50%)(possibly for the super bowl) and 4 to 1 say 80% but the odds of them losing one game, even if the odds in their favor for every game form now to the Super bowl were 4 to one then the odds of them losing any one game would be the sum of the opponents odds.

6 regular season plus 3 play off games 20 + 20 + 20 + 20 + 20 + 20 + 20 + 20 + 20 0r 180 % Well not really, but they have to go up against 1 in 5 odds or worse 9 times. That makes it very unlikely.

That's what makes it so much fun to watch. It would make a great story.

It was quite a game. Came down, to me, to one errant read by Manning. Too cautious when it was the game in the balance. Woodson was beat and it was clear sailing but a QB can't see everything.

Hope Woodson is okay. Last week's "play" for me was his pick... 14 years on the turf WITHOUT a cup! That takes BALLS! But, I said that before.

Packers have peaked and we'll see if they can hold it. Pats are peaking and they should all be healthy for post season. I say Pats and Packers and I say Pats send the Packers packing... IF their secondary can hold up. BIG job to do against Rogers and his receiving corps.

Hmmmm... I suppose you could almost say the same thing in reverse to an extent. Saaaaayyy... IF it is the Pats and the Packers, gonna be a shootout!

I think such a matchup will come down to the defensive line... guys like Wilfork and... I'll stop now... this post is tooo long already.

I think the Packers are the best team in the NFL, but the Broncos have developed a formula for success that has worked six times in a row. We'll see what happens against the Pats next week. If they can shut down Brady, Welker, and Gronkowski I think they will win again. If they do, they have Buffalo and the Chiefs left, and those are both very winnable games. 11-5 is quite possible.

Look at these stats. All the Pats have to do is play their usual game and minimize the turnovers.

Pats        Total Offense         Total Defense         Points Scored         Points Allowed
Per game         424.4 yds         416 yds         30.5 pts    21.1 pts
NFL                  2nd                32nd                  3rd                14th
AFC East          1st                  4th                  1st                  3rd

Broncos
Total Offense         Total Defense         Points Scored         Points Allowed
Per game         317.1 yds         357.1 yds         20.7 pts      23.2 pts
NFL                23rd                19th                21st                22nd

The problem with Dallas is Jerry Jones, who among other things feed of the publicity of Tony Romo dating Jessica Simpson rather than doing everything possible to get the team to the playoffs. There is no respect there for the coach because Jerry interferes. They are not getting the best personnel because Jerry interferes. If Jerry hadn't wanted coaching and (team) managing credit instead of just owning and executive credit, They probably would have had a few more championships under Johnson who would have passed the team to a well mentored management team when he eventually retired.

The best ownership in sports are in Pittsburgh (Steelers) and Green Bay. I like to call them the Anti-Jerrys.

Too many turnovers for Denver in their own red zone told the tale. Denver took an interesting tack against the Patriots in the first quarter...beating them at their own game. But the three turnovers became three scores for New England, and this Bronco team needs at least three things to beat any opponent: Few or no mistakes, solid defense, and keep the came close. Against the Patriots they didn't do any of them.

Are you kidding Raptor? The Pats great without Brady? I don't think so.

Manning makes a big difference to the Colts. But there are a lot of QB's who would be a lot better than those they currently fielding.

Carolina is creaming Tampa. I'm really looking forward to seeing this offense next year with a healthier defense.

I think the Jets will win but they are pretty evenly matched.

Eagles/Cowboys will probably be a barn burner, neither team can cover the other's receivers. But Dallas is hurting at running back.

NE behind 17-10? To Miami? Are they resting their stars?

Raptor, Saints won't see GB until Round 3, If the Packers beat the Giants/Falcons.

The Saints, Steelers, Ravens and 49ers have the best defenses. Saints, Steelers, Ravens have played much tougher schedules, so I believe in them more.

The Pats will cream the Texans, or even the less likely Bengals
Ben's ankle will be more than able to beat the Broncos. I don't believe Broncos can score on the Pittsburgh D. The Pats D shut them down while they were in the bottom defenses 3 in the league. Ravens Steelers will be a much closer game, But I think that Ben will beat Flaco in the next round then it will be best defense in the NFL against the worst defense left in the playoffs(Pats) for the AFC Championship.

On the other side. Saints and Lions have had pretty good D's but look what Flynn did to the Lions They can be had. On the other hand look what the Saints D did to the Panthers. Saints are on the upswing. Lions are slipping. Saints by at least 14.

Like you said, It is not the 49ers year, too young, rookie head coach, Their success partly based on an easy division and an easy schedule. Brees will make some big plays with 3 pro bowlers on the NO O line and lots of weapons. Smith will have a hard time with the NO defense.

ATL and NYG are a coin flip. But Giants have the 2nd best Defense (after NO) left in the NFC. Giants are certainly on the upswing. If they play the Packers, and upset is possible.

If not, NO v Packers, the two best offenses in the league face off but N'Oleans defense is way way better. All Brees has to do is use Packer's tendency to try for the big play against them and they have a better than even chance. If they can play in the cold in Lambeau. But if it is a fairly mild day, I'm picking N'Orleans.

A N'Orleans v Steelers Superbowl will be hard to call. I'd pick the Saints if it is high scoring, Steelers if the defenses prevail.

Note that much of this is based on my thinking in drawing up my team for the nfl.com Fantasy Challenge. But I think it is more likely that these two teams will face each other than any other combination. Which is to say, there is about a 1 in 6 chance they both will make it. But if they do and Pittsburgh's Mike Wallace and Isaac Redmon have great playoff years, I will have a good chance to win a trip to the 2013 Superbowl in N'Oleans.

I picked all saints except for the defense. Defense I picked Steelers. Because I thought that the Steelers vs Bronco's Steelers might have a super defensive day. I also thought that Detroit would score more than 35 points else I would have gone with Saints defense as well.

Looks like JTS won't be going to New Orleans for the Super Bowl next year.
I figured the Steelers were bound to win myself, so no gloating here. Tebow threw some very fine downfield passes, and the Broncos defense was tough when it needed to be.
I would still have to say the Patriots will have an easy time of it with our Denver boys, but I don't think anybody can really predict what Tebow and his gang will do after scoring 29 points on the top-rated defense in the NFL. I've been saying wait 'til next year for several weeks now, but the Broncos seem to be taking this playoffs thing seriously.

Its clear that I do not know Fantasy Football very well. I had already divested of my Steelers offensive players and picked up Saints when I learned that Pouncy was out. I actually switched to New Orleans Defense as well but switched back to Steelers. Had I looked closer at the scoring system I would have realized the number of defensive points that are scored when a team is behind. The Texans cleaned up on the Bengals late in the 4th quarter.

Now I'm going Saints D all the way. If the Saints go to the Super Bowl and have a big game I could still have a competitive score. But People from Louisianna who went Saints all the way from the start will still beat me.

LEJ... an "easy" time? Ahhhh... if the Pats' secondary can get healthy with the by and the receiving corps can do better than the Steelers did, they have a (fairly) better than good "chance". But I don't think it's gonna be easy. The Pats NEEDED the by.

BTW, didja see that kid Owens shadow and make plays? We must be distant cousins. I played inside cornerback and outside when need be (oh, yeah, different terminolgy). I'd say he is near as good as I used to be. Now, he might be able to shadow a Welker - THAT is a monumental task.

Finally, can the Pats' offensive line keep Brady on his feet? To me, that is the big question. I suspect The Belly will go hurryup and West Coast early with short yardage and clock management as the main objectives. After what Denver did to Ben, I jus't can't see a long game until required.

BTW, I was glad to see that last play yesterday. I was cheering for the Steelers but I got to bed early and *I* need my beauty rest. Over 7 hours straight of football is enough.

Sorry, but that IS the short version.

Easy? Nope. But, in my gut, GO PATS!

If two Steeler Offensive linemen had not been injured in the first quarter It would have been a very different game.

Broncos went mostly with a 3 man rush and heavy secondary coverage against a limping Big Ben It worked mostly because Pouncy was out. But still, the Steelers scored 23 points.

On offense they had a couple of trick plays designed to fool Troy Polamalu. Have they used all their tricks? Do you think that The Broncos will score 29 points on the Pats? I don't, I think they will need 35 points or more to beat the Pats.

Tebow is beginning to irritate me with all of this "Miracle" stuff and I am tired of seeing him spit on the ground every time the other team has the ball. (too much attention on a guy sitting on the bench you think?) No, I think they are done next week. But then again, I and many others thought that Pittsburgh beating them was the surest bet this past weekend.

Well said, JtS. But, do you really thing the Pats' offense line can handle things THAT much better? That's why I think the by and the hurryup and short yardage strategy MAY be a factor early in. Anyone's gues, of course.

Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2011 (US football)

The problem wasn't the O-line it was the coverage and Ben's inability to move in the pocket. That said, Pouncy was out and NE has a healthy, practiced O-Line. So yeah, barring a late injury the Pats are THAT much better. The Pats have too many "weapons." If Denver brings that same 3 man rush crap to New England, Gronk and Hernandez will have huge games catching slants. Or Brady will rush for 80 yards. Which is very unlikely, but Denver left some big holes up the middle. Near the end of the game Ben basically walked for two or three 5-7 yard gains. A healthy Brady would eat that up.

Bottom line: Tebow needs to score at least 35 points to beat Brady. I don't think he can.

"Tbow ... unfair, has God on his side ..." LOL!!

I got this note from NFL.com

Steelers left tackle Max Starks and nose tackle Casey Hampton both sustained ACL injuries that could require surgery. ... Defensive end Brett Keisel suffered a "significant" groin injury and linebacker LaMarr Woodley's strained right hamstring remains balky. Then there was Martin out because of altitude.

I think key injuries to the defense made the difference. That was even with high ankle sprains on Pouncey and Ben. Steelers scored enough if the defense had been able to bring pressure.

Question? Did, God "injure" those guys to help Tebow win or is it just that the Steelers have a lot of guys in their thirties and got unlucky on the wrong day.

I give the recruiting staff of the Patriots a gold star. Ya gotta know when ta hold em and when ta fold em. People who picked Patriots in the first round are looking very good in the NFL Fantasy Challenge pool. Brady would have got them about a hundred points in this game alone about matching what Drew Brees got in two excellent games.   Gronk is not far behind Graham and he will play next week and get triple points. 2% of the hundreds of thousands of people took Brady. They are laughing now. And anyone who took the NE defense just got a point a sack.

The Patriots showed, despite having one of the NFL's worst defenses, that they had the Broncos' number. There are certain teams that just "own" other teams, and that goes for New England and Denver this year.
All of the God stuff aside, I like Tim Tebow and look forward to seeing him play next year after more training and maturity and experience kick in. Elway himself was blown out in several big games, and really struggled his first several years.
We'll see. Only one team wins their last game, and I have to think it will be the Pats or Green Bay at this point. That's a shootout that will be fun to watch.

I have a real problem with the Pats hiring the ex offensive assistant coach of the Broncos to "consult for them" before the game and have him in the upstairs booth with the coaches for the pats. It is not illegal in the league but certainly sends a bad message.

I don't think the Pats will beat any of the remaining NFC teams. They have great offense and defense, especially the niners. GB can get it done also and the giants are not the giants we saw earlier, they are on a roll ...

My guess, hope I am wrong, Giants and Pats in the big game

Pats are peakin. I have been down on their offesive line and their secondary but The Belly just seems to be able to get everyone peakin at the right time. I see the Pats in the show after what I saw this afternoon.

I expect the Cheeseheads to win. Dunno about a blowout against the Giants defense, tho. They hyped the Giants offense today in the pregame shows and I kinda asked me, "Huh?". Salesman's puffing?

Well, Josh McDaniels is probably still bitter, and Belichik is what he is. The Patriots have already shown they are not afraid to cheat to win, but in this case, the presence of McDaniels was probably a minor contribution, Dan.
I don't know that New England isn't a true contender for the title. Brady, Gronkowski, Hernandez and Welker are like a scoring machine when they get in groove.

Maybe defense DOES still win championships. Half time 20-10. The Giants are sure outplaying the Packers. Nicks is Feasting on the Packers secondary. A bad call of "Down by contact." is the only reason it is that close.

I like the Niners in a match up with the Giants, their defense seems better but not by much. Defense will also probably decide the AFC Championship as well. Can the Pats do to Ray Rice what they did to Tebow and Magahee? Can the Ravens D slow down Brady?

Well... that's a redface on me! I haven't seen the Giants play much this year and dismissed them due to the poor performaces I saw but they were impressive in the first half. Other side of the ball, I really expected more frpm GB.

And, yes, that was a fumble, on replay after replay. How it was ruled otherwise is "strange".

As for the Pats "cheating", if you are referring to the shit from past seasons, I think The Belly did the entire league a service when he said, "If other teams can do it and get away with it, so can I. Whaddya gonna do about?" He was the guy that did it OVERTLY and took shit for it. He "cheated" in broad daylight and, by doing so, got the cheating dealt with.

Now, that was then, this is now. And the Pats are gonn take the Superbowl.

You may be right about the Pats winning, gnu. But overt cheating is just a way of saying you got caught, in my opinion.
As to McDaniels, we were all pretty glad to see the back of him. He's got some skills as an offensive coordinator as long as there's somebody riding herd on him.

The Giants have a phenomenal defense. It's what won them the Superbowl against the Patriots in the first place. they put pressure on Brady, and I think he spent more time on the ground than on his feet. I still don't think Eli is all that, he's a decent quarterback, but not a great quarterback.

As for the Pats, their defense is young, and it took them a while to gel. I think they'll hold their own just fine.

I was impressed with the Giant's offensive line. San Fran at home will be tough, but we'll see.

As for The Ravens in NE, they are gonna get their wings clipped in a close game... a VERY close game. So close, it could go either way, really. I am serious about that. The Ravens are good. If they can pressure Brady, and I think they can, maybe, given the poor play earlier in the season by the Pat's offensive line, and if their secondary plays up to par, they could nix the Pats if they bring big pressure early. But it's gotta be early and sustained.

No matter what, GO PATS!

REAL BAD TIM

with apologies to Jimmy Dean & Roy Acuff

Every Sunday on the gridiron
You could see him arrive
He'd be down on a knee
Spoutin' God jive
Kinda' weak in the mind
And weaker in the arm
Passin' the ball he could do little harm
He's Tee-Bo......Tee-Bo....oh
The kid can't throw....can't throw.

He could run the option
And the quarterback draw
But his passing game
Was against the law
Passes flopping through the air
Like piss-drunk quail
Tim was the biggest fuckup
On "Celebrity Fail."
Tee-Bo.....Tee-Bo...oh
The kid can't throw....can't throw.

One night he threw for 316
He felt like a King
But he looked like a Queen
His passes were short
Receivers ran them out
Timmy thought he was terrific
But fans had doubt
About Tee-Bo...Tee-Bo...oh
The kid can't throw....can't throw.

Tom Brady and his team
Put on a passing display
The Broncos were in complete disarray
Only 5 times did Timmy complete a pass
Five other times he wound up on his ass
(Spoken)And now on his locker there is a sign that reads......
"Here Hangs a Tiny Jockstrap
Owned by the Sarah Palin of the NFL...
Tim Tebow"

Tee-Bo....Tee-Bo...oh
The kid can't throw....can't throw.

Welker's drop, which would have put the Pats on the 10 I believe, was a miss on a rather tough pass which he had to leap and lay out for. It's just amazing to me when Welker gets his hands on any pass and can't bring it in, because he is so consistent. The Hernandez drop in the final drive was the killer though...right on his numbers.

Yeah... not all of those drops were catchable. Fact is, even if very few players err on very few plays, you can still win. But if even one player errs on successive plays... there it is. The Giants did a great job. The Pats, well, there ya go. I did not like the play calling and overall strategy by the Pats. The only reason I say that is that I felt that way by the end of the first quarter. By the end of the first half I was still not convinced. End of 3rd, I was getting pissed off.

In the end, Brady was not on his game and Manning was. Brady made some bad decisions, almost as if he was nervous and unfocussed. I still think he is one of the best of all time but he wasn't yesterday. I think he is gonna work on his mobility in the off season.

Did you hear about Whelker? I HEARD someone loaded a truck with 900# of Butterfingers chocolate bars... and dumped them "in front of him".

That really pisses me off... if it's true.

I've been away foe a while.

Great game. Give the Giants front four credit. Brady did his part, considering the pressure he was fantastic!. If Gronk had been healthy he probably would have had that "Hail Mary in the end zone. He reminds me of Charles Barkley when the ball is up for grabs. On the other hand, with Gronk healthy, Brady probably would not have had to throw that pass.

Said it before, JtS... I found Brady to be off his game. One of the best of all time but "off". Pressure... of course... but he still wasn't "Brady" on that given Sunday. And it wasn't just him. The errors added up to the final score, plain and simple. And, again, hats off to NY for playing a heck of a game.
