Subject: BS: Computer users electric blanket From: Arthur_itus Date: 07 Mar 11 - 04:31 AM Now there you go. If you prefer to stay up all night on your computer, but miss your electric blanket, then this is for you. PC electric blanket |
Subject: RE: BS: Computer users electric blanket From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 07 Mar 11 - 05:31 AM Excellent idea! And I see they do heated slippers too! Perhaps a heated HAT as well? I'm half serious, Arthur itus, as I feel the cold dreadfully! |
Subject: RE: BS: Computer users electric blanket From: Arthur_itus Date: 07 Mar 11 - 11:15 AM Well I do think it's a good idea Eliza, if you are like that. |
Subject: RE: BS: Computer users electric blanket From: GUEST Date: 07 Mar 11 - 11:20 AM Looks like one heckuvan idea from here. New snowfall of about 12-14 inches, and it ain't stopping. |
Subject: RE: BS: Computer users electric blanket From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 07 Mar 11 - 02:31 PM Oh don't, GUEST, don't even mention that s...word. The sun shone today, but it's going down to minus four tonight, I just shrivel up in the cold. I must be the cleanest woman in Britain as I keep having hot baths just to get my bones warmed up! And our house is well heated with radiators. That's why Arthur itus' suggestion is good. You could be wrapped up totally in an electric blanket from November 'til April. |
Subject: RE: BS: Computer users electric blanket From: VirginiaTam Date: 07 Mar 11 - 05:28 PM Just what my Old Dell laptop needed. It had grown cold and unresponsive. |

Subject: RE: BS: Computer users electric blanket From: JohnInKansas Date: 07 Mar 11 - 10:59 PM The metabolic heat continuously produced by a relaxed human is approximately 158 Watts. A USB port can provide a maximum of 9 Watts (without burning out the port). Battery chargers that do not connect to your computer but have a "USB connector" are reportedly available with up to 16 Watt capacity. Neither is capable of providing a significant additional warmth to a normal human body, although one might warm a finger at a time. The blanket is a fine idea, but plugging it into your computer is either worthless or dangerous to your hardware. This device is based on the principle that some fools will buy anything that's "cute," and it quite probably is successful for that use. Great benefit for the seller, and no physical benefit for the buyer. The buyer may derive the social benefit of being the only d*** fool who has one(?). A nice snuggly blankie is a real help at times, but doesn't really need any additional power source. Thinking really hard can (for some people) increase metabolic output by an additional 18 Watts or more - for those with a truly functional brain and the ability to concentrate; and a nice snuggle-wrap might still help to contain the extra heat. The computer standards people have a name for such devices: "USB Novelties." They can be quite a lot of fun to giggle over. John |
Subject: RE: BS: Computer users electric blanket From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 08 Mar 11 - 01:24 AM If you cover your head - with a beanie - and put a scarf around your neck you can reduce your body heat loss by - oh hell, who cares, but it does make a difference, and consumes no extra energy, other than that used once to make them. |
Subject: RE: BS: Computer users electric blanket From: Andy Jackson Date: 08 Mar 11 - 05:16 AM What JohnInKansas said. Some folks will buy anything! Now if it had been described as digital, then sales would really take off. |
Subject: RE: BS: Computer users electric blanket From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 08 Mar 11 - 06:44 AM Fingerless gloves should be added to my above list/ |
Subject: RE: BS: Computer users electric blanket From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 08 Mar 11 - 07:14 AM The metabolic heat continuously produced by a relaxed human is approximately 158 Watts. So a completely relaxed human being makes a much better bed warmer than a laptop. Sounds very likely to me. |
