Subject: BS: Bobert = Acme Movers... lol...
From: Bobert

Well, rather than resurrect the old "Bobert's to move to NC" thread I figured that I'd just start a new thread fir my friends who love to read about the carp I put myself thru so they can think to themselves "Better him than me"... LOL...

So, the main characters in this part of the move to NC is the Bobert, the Bobert's 1996 GMC 14 foot box truck and the Bobert's back... LOL...

Okay, in the last 12 days I have made 3 trips to NC in Bobert's box truck... It's 7 1/2 hours one way so even the Wes Ginny Slide Rulle would have to admit that there is a reason for the Bobert's back to stay somewhat (or more) sore... Plus, I have been sleeping on the Bobert's electric blow up mattress which has a slow leak and needs to be re-blown-up twice a night...

But, according to my calculations I am down to only 4 more trips in the Bobert's box truck before renting a 26 foot U-Haul for the final move... All this should be accomplished by, ahhhhh, maybe 3 weeks...

Meanwhile I have moved some 350 of the P-Vine's plants and will be taking another 90 on the next trip...

Also, for those who know about the Bobert's 1953 Spartanette music studio/guest shack trailer, it is going to be flat bedded along with the Bobert's infamous Kabota tractor to NC as purdy much the last of the last...

Okay, not that anyone actually cares but this amounts to a progress report...

BTW, we have a NC phone number already, an address and the swimming pool open on Memorial Day... All Mudfolk invited...

I'm tired...

B~

Bobert, at the end of each trip (each end), when you unloaded at one end or loaded at the other, sit yerself down, have an Iron (YUCK!!) City (YUCK!!) and play yer gittar fer about an hour. You if can't make a blues outa this, you ain't payin' attention.

I just sat right down, hurtin' all over.
Yeah, I sat right down, hutin' all over.
Cuz I'm shiftin' lotsa big ones,
Takin' lotsa trips,
An' I don't mean on that wacky weed.

Yeah, it's just me an' mah woman,
Takin' lotsa trips.
Shiftin' lotsa big ones,
Hurtin' all over.
Hurtin' in my pinky finger, in my little toes,
Yeah, I'm hurtin', but it's a good hurt
Ya know.

Hey, Rap, that ain't bad at all...

I mean, it's half way okay...

Yeah, Iron City is the answer to all the world's problems... Well, okay not all the world's problems but sho nuff makes it so ya don't hurt or care if ya' do...

100 pounds used to be nuthin'... I guess they made it heavier since them days, I donno... I do know that I had this fountain that was right at 100 pounds, maybe a tad more, and it worked me hard... Almost dropped the sumabich but then I thought, "Hey, ya' loaded it so ya' outta be able to unload it"... That bit of advice didn't do no good so I said to myself, "Self, there's a cold Iron City riding on you not droppin' it" and that worked just fine...

Well, not just fine but I didn't drop the sumabich either...

lawdy! Your moves in the last few years have made ME realize I was right in saying "no more!" when we bought this place....
I moved every few years between 19 and 42, and I am DONE.... unless someone has to haul me away to the 'home for bewildered philosophers' when I'm 97!...and then it'll be up to my son to sort out.

I shure hope I can afford the gas to come see the place when you get settled, Bobert.

Bobert = Acme Movers = the best house mover around with years of experience

It's amazing how some things get heavier by just sitting around (spiderwebs & dust don't weigh much.) The only way I could move my bed this morning to allow access to the phone lines was to pull the right side out a little, then walk around & pull the left side out, back & forward I went till I got enought space.

I'll be moving in a few years for the first time since 1980, & will be calling one of those companies who pack & unpack it all. Is this the type of job Acme does?

Bobert, this is when you most need the expert assistance of Lane, Fielding, Patterson & Swan, Layabouts for Hire. It's clear that you don't have enough time to do nothing. You need us to do it for you. When you think of all the time that your television is going unwatched and your refrigerator unraided; your couch growing cold, it only makes sense to hire professionals to step in before it's too late. You're running the very real risk of appearing to be busy. We can dispatch our highly trained personnel to both ends of your move to do nothing (and do it very well) right away. For a nominal additional charge, we can assign a man to do nothing in transit. Imagine the look on your neighbor's faces when they see you struggling to unload a couch from the back of your truck while a partner of LFPS, Layabouts for Hire, snores on the cushions surrounded by Cheetos crumbs and beer cans. Your neighbors will know that you care about nothing. At LFPS, nothing is what we do best. Remember...it's the least we can do.

First of all, thanks for that amazing offer, Dave, however if it's nothin' I want I could fly my son in from Portland... He has tons of experience... And that way6 I could keep the $$$ in the family...

Yes, Chance, it is not only possible that I have too much stuff but probable as well... The P-Vine was just going down the list of plants that are still in the ground that she want's dug today... I thought we were over that but I thought wrong...

BTW, Chance, I need to get yer addie and phone number so please PM me with it so we can hook up in Ash-vull...

Well, today is plant digging and window/door gathering... Huh??? Well, up near Warrenton there's a place on the side of the road... Maybe 3 acres of what were once brand new doors and windows and cheap... Most of them are perfectly usable and I gotta build out a "propagation/potting" room for the P-Vine and this is my last chance to get all the glass doors and windows for the job... Probably get $2500 worth of 'um and enough to do the build out for $300...

Well, Bobert Acme gotta go... Fun is a'waitin'...

Thanks, kat, but don't have that luxary...

BTW, ya'll... We have a little deja vu thing going here... Remember the last move??? Well, I do... The P-Vine kept having me dig more & more plants... She promised to hold at 350 which I already dug and delivered to NC and she had me dig a few more to go with the few more she's had me dig everyday I'm here4 and I just looked and I have right at another 350 plants which will completely fill my box truck again...

I donno ya'll... When she announced that we had to move to NC it was a coin-toss for me between dee-vorce and moving... Maybe I oughta revisit that coin toss... Jus' funnin'... Too late now... This farm goes to closing tomorrow and we close in NC a week from Friday...

I vote with Amos, Bobert, heavily and often. At the end of the day - literally- you may not feel like you've delegated some of it but a hundred less backs-and-forths and 1800 pounds fewer to lift and carry will add up.

Ya'll don't understand... We're talkin' upwards of 700 plants, several to9ns of tools, hardware, building supplies, etc... A farm tractor with box scraper, plow, rake, etc... Garden tools, riding mowers, tillers, two garden trailers... A 30 foot Spartanette trailer (my music studio)... Plus 200 boxes of stuff that we just don't want to get rid of... Like 200 old Look and Life magazine... Like old collectibles... Like 1500 60's and 70's LP record albums...

And this after having an auction house come and take several truck loads of stuff...

I mean, if a moving company were to move this it would cost $30,000...

My budget is $8,000 with most being gasoline...

BTW, the P-Vine needs a propagation/potting room so I went over to Warrenton this afternoon (with a hefty friend) and we loaded 3 prehung doble French style door assemblies (200 pound each), 3 5X6 nice gridded windows and 6 old two-light vertical sashes... All for $100!!! I mean, this stuff new would have been $2500-$3000 easy...

Never mind... I am insane...

Hey, if anyone wants to be part of this wonderful move then step right up...

I got cold beer...

Reminds me of a story...

A very learned man was driving by the state mental hospital when one of his wheels fell off his car... Just so happens that one of the patients was on the other side of the fence and saw it happen... The very learned man got out of his car and was mumbling and scratching his head when the patient yelled over to him, "Go get the wheel and take one lug nut off the remaining three to hold it one until you get to the shop"...

The very learned man yelled back, "Thank you, I will... By the way, why are you in there if you have that much common sense?" to which the patient responded...

..."Hey, I may be crazy but I ain't stupid"...

Never mind...

Well, depends on what "plenty of room" means... Yes, we do have a very nice guest bedroom and there are 5 acres with a nice big pond and there's woods and an in ground pool...

We're going to try to load the rest of the plants today... The doors and windows are laying flat so I'm going to cover them with plywood and put plants on top of them and head south Friday or Saturday depending on the weather...

This is all like being on a roller coaster... Can't get off until the ride is over... We close on the sale of our farm *today* (yikes) but have until June 1st to have everything out... The P-Vine will be going down on the 9th of May to stay... Me??? I'll still be Acme Movers...

Tunes, F-Troup??? I got an I-pod with about 500 kick-ass blues and blues/rock tunes in it... Plus I have figured out what the NPR stations are on the way...

I'm okay as far as that goes...

I been taking my geetar, too, but when I get to NC I been drivin' all friggin' day and too wored out to play it much but I got it in case...

Next trip: Saturday... Doors, windows, a refrigerator and right at about 100 more stenkin' plants of the P-Vine...

Each one seems a little heavier than the last... I thought a had a low left front tire this time... Nah, just a lot o' shit in the truck this time...

But...

...hey, there's somethin' to a "man" about mowing the grass that makes the "man" feel like like it's home and that's what I did to celebrate Easter morning... Not sure how resurrection enters into it... Maybe I do???

According the Wes Ginny Slide Rule I have completed 1/2 the trips... 4 down, 4 to go... I tried to get it 3 to go but the WGSR is a lot smarter about these things than I will ever be... I mean, it may not have the acute understanding of womenz that I do (lol...) but it is one smart chunk of wood...

Two days to reload and Acme Movers back at it... Well, at least the P-Vine get's her first Acme paycheck as she's going to take a load in her Honda CRV with a trailer in tow...

Some 'friends of the hospital' gave me a crescent shaped, very soft cushion, about 12inches across, with ribbons at each end to tie together and I was told to wear it whenever I had a seat belt on. I had it tied on my shoulder and the soft part under my arm in bed at night and moved it across to shelter the scar whenever there was any pressure. I guess it's only at our local hospital but every mastectomy patient was given one. If you were closer I could let you borrow it for awhile but we're nearly half a world away and snail mail is too slow.
It's like a circle/oval with a bite taken out of one side - actually, I've just measured it - you'd need two bits of material about 16inches wide by 12inches deep. The cut away hole is about 4inches wide by 6inches deep and is more horseshoe shaped than circular. Then there are ties at each pointy bit, to allow you to tie a bow at whatever level is most comfy. I once tied it to the straps on my piano accordion, with the soft part between me and the box. It worked very well. And I wore it when I drove down to Wellington, when I was supposed to be recovering. That was about 4 hours of driving, and by the time I came home again, another 4 hours a week later, I'd almost forgotten about the scars!
Thinking of you,
Robyn
