You know, I realy think I am going barking mad. Twice now I thought I saw a thread on Parodies concerning the Mudcat but I now cannot find either:-( In one I had a discussion about whether it was about characters but I suggested it was just about the 'cat in general but the character one got me thinking and I wrote the first couple of lines.

It is about me and, in case you didn't know, I used to be Dave the Gnome before I was Mad Polly. It doesn't make much sense unless I tell you that much at least :-) Anyway -

Oh, Polly, Mad Polly, the fun has now begun
I must go a marching to the beat of a different drum
Come dress yourself all gaily and leave behind the gloom
I'll take you to the wars, my love, on an internet chatroom

I'll buy for you a 'puter, love, and on it you will write
And all of my delight will be in visiting this site
We'll stop at the Mudcat Cafe, to post we are dry
We'll tell our deepest feelings and get by on irony.
(Ouch - terrible rhyme :-) )

Oh cursed be those cruel cuts that ever did they rise
And out of merry England posts many a man likewise;
They took my willy from me, likewise my other bits
And I became a Polly, to escape from all the... others
(Couldn't think of one there either)

Many friends there do I value, but my foes I do not fear
For now my Gnome has left me and wanders far and near
Where to find him now I ne'er will know, for he has no IP
And I think his willy's gone away to High Germany.

:-)

Ah - OK,Joe. To decide if it is a folk song or not I guess? I, personaly, think it is good enough to include in a lyric add but I shall bow to your better judgement.

....depends on whether the thread is of general interest, or only of interest within the Mudcat community. The "above the line" stuff should make sense to visitors.

No probs - Next one will have plenty of interest for visitors:-) I would have posted earlier but the 'cat has been down all day, as you probably know. Interesting coincidence that and some threads going missing. Anyone know how it happened? Hackers I suppose...

Well, I for one believe its a fine example of Mudcat Parodism and I for one think your song belongs above the line. If we can get Amos to back you, its a cinch. Good luck talking him into anything though.

It's a song, parody or not, so it's above the line...

The Fooles songs are above the line .... or they were....

And you can add more than one song into this thread...

I do notice that the 'Mad Magazine Parodies' is above the line while this is below but I guess if I complain it is criticising the Mudcat editing policy.

Heaven forbid I should do that ;-)

Mudcat Moderator song. Please forward all necessary apologies to the Estate of Johnny Cash.

We keep the folk stuff up above the line
And there are folkies who whine and whine and whine
When they see things that they don't think are fine
To stop the whine, we watch the line!

Some find it very very easy to write songs
Some find it easier to say that things are wrong
Mods try to put the threads where they belong
While we whine, they watch the line

Nice one's J&M :-)

I'll keep a close watch on this thread of mine
I'll keep my mind wide open all the time
I hope that all of this just ends out fine
Because it's mine, below the line
