I started to chat the lady, I pleaded so impressively,
I showed her a lot of English money.

Is that she don't want no Trinidadian,
You must be an American
Or either a Puerto Rican.

Yes, they have some girls in Port-of-Spain,

Note: There is an obvious connection between this song and the 1956 "Jean and Dinah" in that both are about prostitution in Port-of-Spain and the lowering prices in the postwar period. In both songs the women are depicted as saddened by the loss of the Americans and their money and the singer implies that he is personally acquainted with these women.

Thank you for the transcription - and your time - and interest.

The Mudcat could use a dozen more just like you.

There is currently a whirlwind of material to be reaped ... and the window of opportunity is small ... the USA material is threatened this week.

I transcribed the lyrics from the recording, Jim. I think there is almost a sadistic (is that the right word) happiness, or a boastful sort of pride in Invader's descriptions of the young girls and women who must now "hustle for their usual shilling" now that the Americans are gone. It's almost as if he's implying that this is their comeuppance for rejecting him. Does anyone share this opinion?
