Subject: RE: BS: favourite snacks From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 26 May 11 - 06:09 AM tiny tomatoes (she sez. finishing one) seedless green grapes frozen seedless green grapes eaten straight from the freezer so they melt in the mouth! I used to love banana, tahini & peanut butter on any wonderful whole grain buttered bread, must buy some tahini again. And make the peanuts I bought last week up into very crunchy peanut butter! sandra (heading for the tomatoes again) |
Subject: RE: BS: favourite snacks From: GUEST,Jon Date: 26 May 11 - 06:22 AM At the moment, I think my salad box plus cheese sandwich is as popular as anything at home. I just chop/slice/cut/cube whatever is to hand or I fancy and put in a plastic box which is kept in the fridge. Last one was grapes, onion, tomato, cucumber and from our garden: lettuce, chives, mint, lemon verbena and radish. Later in the year, I'll just be using stuff from the garden (although not our grapes - they are sour). |
Subject: RE: BS: favourite snacks From: Becca72 Date: 26 May 11 - 09:37 AM A favorite since childhood (thanks, Aunt Lorna!) - eyeball sandwiches. Nice squishy bread (I prefer whole grain), peanut butter and fresh green grapes. YUM! Better than any jelly, for sure! |
Subject: RE: BS: favourite snacks From: MGM·Lion Date: 26 May 11 - 10:39 AM Thank you, Becca. Emma & I just tried them. Delicious: better than any -er - jam, indeed!. ~Michael~ xx |

Subject: RE: BS: favourite snacks From: Bill D Date: 26 May 11 - 10:51 AM A mix of peanut butter & almond butter (crunchy) with honey on a piece of warm multi-grain toast. Honey varies, but I prefer 'tangy' honey with character. Leatherwoood honey from New Zealand is my choice, but hard to find anymore. |
Subject: RE: BS: favourite snacks From: John MacKenzie Date: 26 May 11 - 12:21 PM Asparagus and smoked salmon Strong Canadian Cheddar and marmalade sandwiches. Hard boiled eggs, remoulade, and hot chili sauce. Stewed apple with digestive biscuits crumbled over them, and evaporated milk. |
Subject: RE: BS: favourite snacks From: MGM·Lion Date: 26 May 11 - 01:11 PM Smoked salmon, black pepper, lemon juice, and a mild cream cheese, on light rye. |
Subject: RE: BS: favourite snacks From: Max Johnson Date: 26 May 11 - 01:47 PM MtheGM A smear of bitter marmalade also works well with good pork sausages (free range I hope). Never tried them with a hot dog, but I shall. Also now wondering about grilling it with a pork chop (but that's hardly a snack, I admit). Favourite snack de jour is a fried chicken sandwich: Fried chicken left-over from a roast well seasoned, a lettuce leaf, between two slices of buttered toast lightly smeared with mayonnaise. Thanks for the grapes tip - I usually only eat them with Brie. |

Subject: RE: BS: favourite snacks From: MGM·Lion Date: 26 May 11 - 02:12 PM Max ~ agree re sausages also. & with pork chop, or with duck: both meats that can be served à l'orange, after all. |
Subject: RE: BS: favourite snacks From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 26 May 11 - 03:45 PM Mmmmmm, some pretty good choices. They sound more like meals than snacks to me. Sausage with Scotch Seville marmelade and biscuits (egg with it) is more of a full meal. But old strong Canadian cheddar with biscuits and marmalade is a snack that tastes so good that it expands into a meal. Some favorite snacks- A good creampuff and Guatemalan-Mexican coffee at 10AM. A good tamale at 4PM. The former are available here, but no good tamales. The best I remember were sold by a street vendor, in corn husks wrapped in hot towels and packed in a lard bucket. A sliced banana with milk and brown sugar. |
Subject: RE: BS: favourite snacks From: Dave the Gnome Date: 26 May 11 - 04:24 PM One I have not had for years and only mentioned to someone the other day. Sort of 'mini pizza'. Toast (any sort - white works for me) cut into fingers and spread with cranberry sauce. Topped with... Wait or it... Anchovies! Mmmm. Must get some this weekend. DtG |
