Subject: BS: Cats in the S***, Literally! From: Cats Date: 16 Jun 11 - 06:07 PM Thanks to everyone who has phoned, texted, e mailed, offered to help etc. When you are in the S*** you really know who your friends are. Last weekend there was a slurry spill on the farm next door and it ran off the top fields, through the stables, through the yard, over the bank, under my oil tank, down the steps and under the back door of my garage and out the front door of my garage and under my front door. Hall isn't too bad as have been bleaching the slate floor everyday but garage is locked [Environmental Health advice]until the loss adjuster comes [tomorrow]. Meanwhile can't get into garage where all my brand new beekeeping equipment is [Thanks to other bee keepers who have rallied round and been tending my bees for me as I have nothing left including my suit and veil, as it's all contaminated, can't get to my freezer which will have to go cos you can't sterilise a freezer but we don't know about the contents yewt [18 cu ft frreezer has alot of food in it!], garden furniture, all the stuff for the camper van... I could go on. You have all been fantastic with all your offers of help but it has to be a professional clear up team in protective white suits [a bit like the alien invasion] because of possible contamination [samples go to public health labs tomorrow]. Now I really am up to my ears in it!!!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Cats in the S***, Literally! From: John MacKenzie Date: 16 Jun 11 - 06:17 PM Oh dear, what a disaster. I'm so sorry to hear about this. The contamination must be pretty widespread too. Hope it's not too long before things get sorted out. |
Subject: RE: BS: Cats in the S***, Literally! From: gnu Date: 16 Jun 11 - 06:46 PM OH SHIT!!! That's a real bummer. I hope things work out okay. Dear me. What a terrible loss! and inconvenience! |
Subject: RE: BS: Cats in the S***, Literally! From: jacqui.c Date: 16 Jun 11 - 07:05 PM What a horrible thing to happen love. How are the chickens? Hope they didn't get affected. Here's hoping that it all gets cleared up fast. Does your household insurance cover it or will it be dealt with under the farm's Liability insurance? |
Subject: RE: BS: Cats in the S***, Literally! From: kendall Date: 16 Jun 11 - 07:16 PM OMG! Thats beyond horrible! I hope someone is well insured. |

Subject: RE: BS: Cats in the S***, Literally! From: Bobert Date: 16 Jun 11 - 07:51 PM Heck, I'd borrow a chainsaw and make a new window into the garage and climb in thru it and frame it up later... Be aware of any wires in the wall however... Start with small hole and then feel around for what is what and in no time you'll have you access... Good luck!!! B~ |
Subject: RE: BS: Cats in the S***, Literally! From: katlaughing Date: 16 Jun 11 - 08:33 PM Eewwww! Wouldn't want access, m'self until the hazmat folks were through.:-) That's a real shame, though. Must've been major! Good to know you've friends and all to rally round. Hope it won't take too long to get things sorted, cleaned, replaced, etc. Please keep us posted as you are able and like, kat |
Subject: RE: BS: Cats in the S***, Literally! From: Bobert Date: 16 Jun 11 - 08:48 PM Unless I read it right, kat, the garage & contents are intact??? No??? B~ |
Subject: RE: BS: Cats in the S***, Literally! From: Richard Bridge Date: 17 Jun 11 - 03:20 AM I hope the loss adjuster (I infer from your insurers) will be sensible and helpful. Sometimes they are not. |
Subject: RE: BS: Cats in the S***, Literally! From: jacqui.c Date: 17 Jun 11 - 09:30 AM Bobert - the garage and contents have been hit by the shit, literally. I doubt that Kathy will be able to salvage anything - the health risk would be just too much. |

Subject: RE: BS: Cats in the S***, Literally! From: Janie Date: 18 Jun 11 - 02:14 AM Oh dear, Dear! Can do nothing other than send good thoughts in the face of such a personal disaster. Wanting to understand a bit better what has happened. I think of slurry as being a marketable by-product of sewage treatment plants that some ill-advised farmers (given the current state of the technology,) use to fertilize their fields. 20+ years ago, we moved off of a farm where the farmer was using "slurry" spray to fertilize a couple of hundred of acres of pasture - smelled almost as bad as a hog farm, and even without research, we figured the stench indicated it was bad for breathing. Is that what you mean by "slurry?" |
Subject: RE: BS: Cats in the S***, Literally! From: Cats Date: 18 Jun 11 - 03:54 AM Quick update. Loss adjusters for the other insurance company came out yesterday morning and incredibly helpful. Within 2 hours my own company said they would pick it up and act for me in the sorting all out and claim it all back from his personal liability insurance. Half an hour later I had a personal asistant assigned and she had by then already instructed their clean up team to contact me to come in, clean up and help me make the inventory and claim. They tried to get hold of me yesterday but couldn't but have spoken to them this morning [Saturday ay 8.30am] and they are all set to make a start as soon as we can. Hopefully over the next couple of days things will beging to get sorted. Keep you posted. Now, about these songs... keep them coming |
