Subject: BS: Has Anti-Americanisn spread THIS far??? From: Little Hawk Date: 21 Jun 11 - 02:27 PM Scientists at NASA were mystified today when enhanced photos from the surface of one of Jupiter's moons turned up a clear and unmistakable image of what appears to be a large rectangular sign or sculpture in stone that reads "YANKEE GO HOME!" The font has been identified as sans serif. The science community is at a loss to explain this phenomenon, though there were suggestions that it might be a random event caused by cooling masses of magma from a volcanic eruption. Yeah...right! Further enhancement of photos revealed a second apparent sculpture not far away from the first, and it seems to resemble an upright hand with the middle finger extended skyward. Even the well-trimmed nails and cuticles are apparent. This is theorized to be a frozen geyser. Uh-huh. Professor Lance Davidson of NASA explained to the press: "It has to be some sort of bizarre natural phenomena that produced these oddly suggestive shapes in stone. After all, if it were an extra-terrestrial message of some sort from sentient beings, aliens if you will, it wouldn't read "Yankee Go Home". It would read "Earthlings Go Home". |

Subject: RE: BS: Has Anti-Americanisn spread THIS far??? From: Little Hawk Date: 21 Jun 11 - 02:40 PM I lived half my young life in the USA, Jack. I can spell like either a Canadian or an American, as I please. And I do. In fact, sometimes I deliberately spell like an American as a friendly gesture toward the Americans on this website. A "favor", in other words. ;-) I figure that seeing it spelled "favour" would make them feel that something is wrong. |
Subject: RE: BS: Has Anti-Americanisn spread THIS far??? From: Jack the Sailor Date: 21 Jun 11 - 02:41 PM No. I think Americans also do not spell "ism" with an "n." ;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Has Anti-Americanisn spread THIS far??? From: Little Hawk Date: 21 Jun 11 - 11:17 PM What concerns me is whether or not they will find similarly anti-American signs on even more distant planets, such as Neptune and Pluto. If so, what then? Where will it end??? |
Subject: RE: BS: Has Anti-Americanisn spread THIS far??? From: Ebbie Date: 21 Jun 11 - 11:32 PM sigh If that isn't just like a Canadian... Pluto is not a planet nowadays, Little Hawk. :) |
Subject: RE: BS: Has Anti-Americanisn spread THIS far??? From: Jack the Sailor Date: 21 Jun 11 - 11:37 PM The real question is whether Pluto is a dog. Or is that just Goofy? |
Subject: RE: BS: Has Anti-Americanisn spread THIS far??? From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 22 Jun 11 - 08:14 AM Thanks for the report, Little Hawk. You are a sweetie. Do you suppose the evil computer, HAL, had anything to do with the sign and the sculpture? Maybe Dave didn't remove all the critical circuits at the end of his long journey to Jupiter. |
Subject: RE: BS: Has Anti-Americanisn spread THIS far??? From: SINSULL Date: 22 Jun 11 - 09:00 AM That is actually an old relic of the American Civil War. Ken Burns mentions it briefly in his PBS series. It was financed and erected by John Paul Getty a great nephew of John Paul Jones and space explorer in response to the Battle of Gettysburg. Don't any of you ever read a book? SINS |

Subject: RE: BS: Has Anti-Americanisn spread THIS far??? From: olddude Date: 22 Jun 11 - 09:49 AM Blame me, I put it there. Had a terrible time getting it up there but I figured out that using moonshine as rocket fuel would do the trick. Kendall made the rocket outta old car parts and bobster included his sidewalk blues CD and some great home grown to go inside the thing for the aliens to understand our culture. Yup I have to say it was a mudcat collaboration. Spaw wrote the opening line on it. It reads "placed here by mudcatters for your enjoyment, if you don't like it Jackweed then go fuck yourself" I just didn't say anything to anyone until now |

Subject: RE: BS: Has Anti-Americanisn spread THIS far??? From: Little Hawk Date: 22 Jun 11 - 12:01 PM Ebbie - Yes, I am aware that some people are now claiming that Pluto "isn't a planet"....but I don't give a damn. ;-) Pluto is still a planet as far as I am concerned. I think the Civil War connection is an interesting one, and there may be something to it. Will the South rise again on the Moons of Jupiter??? And if so, then what? |
Subject: RE: BS: Has Anti-Americanisn spread THIS far??? From: Jack the Sailor Date: 22 Jun 11 - 12:15 PM The South done rose already. GW Bush was the revenge. |
Subject: RE: BS: Has Anti-Americanisn spread THIS far??? From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 22 Jun 11 - 01:29 PM Jackweed is a common roadside plant in many parts of North America. It is the only wild member of its family. It has two domesticated relatives, dickweed and fuckweed. Dickweed is grown for its fibrous husks which are used for making dickstrings, and fuckweed is grown for its sturdy stalks which are commonly dried and soaked in kerosene to make flaming fucksticks. |

Subject: RE: BS: Has Anti-Americanisn spread THIS far??? From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 22 Jun 11 - 03:13 PM "It has two domesticated relatives, dickweed and fuckweed." The correct forms are 'dickhead' and 'fuckwit.' My goodness, when are you going to master proper English? :) |

Subject: RE: BS: Has Anti-Americanisn spread THIS far??? From: Jack the Sailor Date: 22 Jun 11 - 04:11 PM I thought the correct forms were Fuck-head and Fuck-up As in "Look that Fuck-head over there he is such a fuck-up!" But maybe that's just Newfoundland English, which can take cursing to extremes. |
Subject: RE: BS: Has Anti-Americanisn spread THIS far??? From: olddude Date: 22 Jun 11 - 04:14 PM It is a dialect thing Jack ... probably correct for Newfoundland Now in Wisconsin they would end it with a YAH |

Subject: RE: BS: Has Anti-Americanisn spread THIS far??? From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 22 Jun 11 - 11:03 PM Hi, BWL. You are right, of course, about the verb. However, 'fuckwit' the verb takes an apostrophe, as in "It's my beluga caviar, and don't fuckwit' it!" According to the OED, this form is first found in early-20th century Bronx, New York. 'Fuckwit' without the apostrophe is a noun and comes from the Old Dutch 'fuck' combined with Anglo-Saxon 'wit', meaning intelligence, (or lack thereof) and it is found as far back as the 13th century. See how cultivated we Americans are? |
