i haven't been able to find the one that was sung by David Blue -- i think the title was Grand Hotel (not the same one in the database) one of the lines went
"there i was treated especially well,
it was the grand hotel"

-------thanks for any help !

I know it was recorded by Jim & Jean in the 60's. They recorded a lot of Phil Och's songs.

David Blue recorded the song, and as i said i'm not positive about the title---but i don't think Phil Och's had anything to do with it----what makes you say that?-----it is notthe Grand Hotel that is in the database

Yes, it s David Blue, not Phil. The following is strictly from memory (from about 1968) so may not be 100%. Somewhere round here I've got the album with David Blue performing it; when/if I find it will post any corrections & discography. Hope this helps.
Best, Greg

GRAND HOTEL
(David Blue, a.k.a. Dave Cohen)

The lady speaks with tenderness, she offers up her key
"Ah, come to me when you need a rest, I only want to please"
And I go to her with an open mind, seeking only peace
She smiles and takes my weary coat: "I'll fill all your needs"
Ah, but there I was treated especially well, it was a grand hotel.

Her pillow lay like fine perfume, so gentle[or gently] for my head
And her sheets were turned with love in mind, it was a perfect bed
At night she would sometimes ask what was inside of me
And fully I gave her all the truth, but my words she would not believe
Ah, but there I was treated especially well, it was a grand hotel

Convinced that I held back from her she grew dissatisfied
"Its only pity I have for you now, now you belong outside"
And she came back in the afternoon and brought her friend the Nun
And they prayed for me while they cleaned the sheets, no they did not give me long
Ah, but there I was treated especially well, it was a grand hotel

I wonder now as I go along, these thoughts of mine don't change
How people will always take you for so much more than you claim
But there I was treated especially well, it was a grand hotel.

The album is "These 23 Days in September" on Reprise, # 6296. It has likely been out of production for years, I looked on Amazon.com and got no return for either the album or for David Blue. Best bet, maybe the used shops MarkS

Hmmm, Dad sings a song about the Grand Hotel

The Grand Hotel , it's a damned hotel
They've neither a scrape nor a bell
They've a cow with three legs, which doesn't lay eggs
and the chickens don't lay any milk
because they're all ducks, excepting one swan
and yesterday that laid a banana
but the landlady's daughter brings my shaving water
and that's why I stay at The Grand Hotel.
