Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Amos Date: 12 Sep 11 - 08:36 PM What is "Ehler's Memorial Hall" in Old Speake? A |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Charlie Baum Date: 12 Sep 11 - 09:13 PM Ehlers Memorial Hall is the old Dining Hall--last year, the place we had the silent auction and the evening concerts. --Charlie Baum |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Genie Date: 12 Sep 11 - 10:53 PM Why does the schedule say "LATE NIGHT MUSIC in RETREAT CENTER, NATURE CENTER, and EHLERS HALL" with no mention of the Peace Cabin? Aren't we gonna stay up all night jammin' and singin' in the Peace Cabin this year like normal? Genie |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Bill D Date: 12 Sep 11 - 10:56 PM Shhhh... there's 'official' sites, then there's........ How many do you want trying to get into Peace? There could be other places also. *grin*.... but they won't tell you. |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Genie Date: 13 Sep 11 - 12:09 AM Ah. OK, mum's da woid! ; ) |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Rapparee Date: 13 Sep 11 - 08:25 AM Oh, man, EVERYBODY wants Peace...a little or a lot. |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: SINSULL Date: 13 Sep 11 - 08:45 AM Once again, you can't be in three places at once. Daylong ballad workshop is a neat addition. Next year... |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Nancy King Date: 13 Sep 11 - 08:46 AM I posted to this thread yesterday, but my post seems to have disappeared. Dunno why. The news about the schedule was also in the "Program Suggestions" thread. Anyhow, we're pretty pleased with the schedule, and hope you are, too. Take a good look -- if you are a workshop leader and we have you in two places at once, let us know NOW and we'll fix it. If you just want to BE in two (or more) places at once, well, welcome to the club. Better too much that too little, right? Once again, we were unable to arrange a cloning workshop. Sorry. If you haven't yet registered, do it NOW, please. Looking forward to seeing you all there! |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: jacqui.c Date: 13 Sep 11 - 09:25 AM When WILL we get a cloning workshop?????????? |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Nancy King Date: 13 Sep 11 - 09:59 AM When you figure out how to do it, Dearie! |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Amos Date: 13 Sep 11 - 10:16 AM The Peace Cabin is the all night resort for those who don't do schedules. It will start right on time... email your signup commitment to Jeanie...with the pre-planning admission discount fee of $4.78... A |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: ClaireBear Date: 13 Sep 11 - 11:21 AM Weren't we planning to have a "This Is Us" launch party at the Getaway? Unless I'm looking right at it and not seeing it (which is entirely possible), it's not on the formal schedule ... so when are we gonna have it? Claire |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Dan Schatz Date: 13 Sep 11 - 01:14 PM So all you are saying is - "Give Peace a chance?" Sadly, Chance said he can't be there this year. :( Dan |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Genie Date: 13 Sep 11 - 01:48 PM Yeah, CB, there will be a "This Is Us" Mudcat CDs release at Getaway, but I don't know what form it will take. A session where excerpts from the CDs are played? (That could take quite a while.) An announcement at the Saturday night concert, along with a display of the CDs in the CD sales area? Posters? Maybe Bradfordian or michaelr will fill us in. |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: kendall Date: 13 Sep 11 - 02:52 PM *I'm really looking forward to doing that Sunday slot with David Jones |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: CupOfTea Date: 13 Sep 11 - 05:46 PM What a fabulous time this looks to be. It's breaking my heart that I can't go this year. The economics of being downsized & a splurge in going to OLD SONGS just before getting the chop, not knowing I wouldn't be able to do both, and make a choice just sucks bilgewater. I SO wanted a reprise of Sally Rogers' Music Theory session that was so densely packed with "aha!" moments last year, I can't remember them all, even from my notes. John Roberts & David Jones doing music hall songs- way too much fun (though it might not quite match the time the two of them did that workshop with Heather Wood-in a Viking helmet- at Fox Valley) A day of ballads... gahhhhhh I want to be there!!!! Last year was my first time attending, after hearing about it for years, and it far surpassed the expectations of fun. That was in spite of a very costly car repair/rental incident that got me there quite late. I'm going to have to put myself on the list of people who have steely determination to attend Getaway 2012. Joanne in Cleveland, looking for a full time job, dagnabbit. |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: dick greenhaus Date: 13 Sep 11 - 09:07 PM Re "This is Us". It would be nice if folks that want to buy a set would let me know, so that I'd have some idea of how many to bring? I'm getting too old to lug CDs back and forth. |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: ClaireBear Date: 13 Sep 11 - 09:10 PM Maybe we should start a thread for that, Dick. (And I'd like one, please!) |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Severn Date: 13 Sep 11 - 11:23 PM It looks like I go last on Sunday's schedule, co-leading a humorous songs workshop, up against Farewell Songs and Lullabyes. I guess that makes it a choice for you all of Leave Them, Leave Them Laughing and Leave Consciousness Altogether. Three great ways to go out. Wish I could be at them all, but I'll try to provide some relief for fatigue and tearful farewells while they stay busy providing relief from Roger and I. There'll probably also be a traditional Love Them And Leave Them Workshop going on behind the bushes somewhere, and maybe a Lever Brothers, Lever tradional clean nautical farewell songs jam down by the water, as well. Take your chance at your chants wherever you will and you shouldn't be able to go wrong. I understand they were going to offer my co-host the Lullabyes slot and call the workshop "Roger-Over and Out", but I'm glad to be working with him and his vast repetoire of funny stuff instead. See you all there! |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Genie Date: 14 Sep 11 - 12:35 AM Dick, I definitely want to buy at least one full set. I may want more, but I'm not sure how many I can fit into my airplane luggage. Genie |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Genie Date: 14 Sep 11 - 12:37 AM Severn, you mean Lever Brothers, as in "Leave 'er, Johnny, leave 'er?" |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Severn Date: 14 Sep 11 - 08:14 PM Exactly, Genie! |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Charlie Baum Date: 15 Sep 11 - 01:14 AM If you're thinking of coming, register now! We need to give the folks who run West River some attendance numbers this weekend--how many breakfasts, lunches, and dinners to buy food for, and the like. --Charlie Baum |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Midchuck Date: 15 Sep 11 - 07:45 AM Charlie: I have registered (just one of me, and sleeping in my van), but it went out by snailmail yesterday (Wednesday) morning, so I don't know how exactly when you'll get it. Registered for arrival Friday afternoon and leaving after breakfast Monday. Peter. |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: kendall Date: 15 Sep 11 - 08:44 AM Charlie, I can vouch for Midchuck (Peter) we will be riding with him. |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: GUEST,Dani Date: 15 Sep 11 - 09:33 AM Can't believe I'm going to be there for this!! Thank you, all, for keeping the home fires burning so the rest of us can just drop in ; ) Dani |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Nancy King Date: 15 Sep 11 - 09:41 AM Keep in mind that the schedule is still subject to change. We've just had to make one change. We hope there won't be any more, but you never know... Even with changes, it's gonna be great! |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Linda Goodman Zebooker Date: 22 Sep 11 - 11:02 AM Wonderful schedule. It looks like a great mix of technical tips and topic songs. It's heartening to see Jesse Greer on there as a co-leader. I see him around town as a grown-up few times a year, but I always remember Jesse as that young kid who played Risk and Dungeons & Dragons with my son at my first few Getaways in the early 2000's. I love the idea of the all-day Ballad workshop. Those songs will be getting the breathing room they really need. I too wish I could see Sally Rogers' Theory Workshop again. I also still have my notes from last year. Sing well, kids. Looking forward to being there next year. |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Charley Noble Date: 22 Sep 11 - 07:39 PM So I'm missing Magpie, Joel Mabus, Sally Rogers, John Roberts, Judy Cook, Davy Jones, all favorites, and a host of other folks I don't even know who are probably equally as good.Drat! Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Martha Burns Date: 27 Sep 11 - 08:18 PM I'll be leading a workshop on CLOTHING IN SONG on Sunday afternoon. How many songs do you know where characters are described by the clothing they wear? Hope you'll come and sing your favorites! |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Genie Date: 27 Sep 11 - 10:11 PM I guess that's better than a "Clothing Optional Song Circle," Martha. Genie |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Martha Burns Date: 27 Sep 11 - 10:41 PM Well, we can always do both. That WOULD be odd, wouldn't it, to be singing about clothing without wearing any, ourselves. |

Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Nancy King Date: 27 Sep 11 - 10:53 PM How did that happen???? |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Leadfingers Date: 28 Sep 11 - 10:53 AM I wish I could clone myself AND my bank balance , then I would be able to be with you ! HAVE FUN DAMMIT !!! |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: Bill D Date: 28 Sep 11 - 12:12 PM How did that happen? Obviously, it was a "communication optional" post. |
Subject: RE: 2011 Getaway Schedule Up From: CupOfTea Date: 28 Sep 11 - 03:35 PM What Charlie said: "So I'm missing Magpie, Joel Mabus, Sally Rogers, John Roberts, Judy Cook, Davy Jones, all favorites, and a host of other folks I don't even know who are probably equally as good.Drat!" and add Charley Noble to my "Drat!" list. I bought his book at Old Songs thinking I'd get an autograph at Getaway. Next year for both of us, I hope! Joanne, still in Cleveland (At least I get John Roberts later in the month, when I'll quiz him for details) |
