I just thought I would start a thread regarding, not only kc's jewelry, but perhaps other mudcatters do something in the art/folkart realm, besides singing or playing an instrument.

I won the auction for kat's necklace and she made one similar to a totem necklace she had made for herself. I suggested a length (since I've always had a "singer's neck," I've found conventional chain/necklace lengths to be constricting) and told her about my coloring and what stones I like. The necklace is stunning and I will be wearing it at the Getaway for all to see. She has some very good scans of her work if you are interested.

For myself, besides singing, I sew, have a line of Folkart Dolls called "JennyLynn" dolls, and paint folkart. Plus, I'm a collector of different things, e.g., McCoy Pottery, Dept. 56 Snowbabies, old raggedy anne's, and a few other things.

I know there are potters, and makers of instruments out there. Perhaps if we post to a common thread, it will become a site for other mudcatters to view our wares. Come to think of it, bbc is so talented, perhaps there should be a category in the Mudcat Resources for just this kind of information. I'm always looking for something different for presents and feel my friends and family sometimes need a break from "my" artwork. Any thoughts on this? moonchild

Well, I make ships in bottles from time to time, but not for sale - I'd go broke before I finished one! My missus, Sue, makes doll's houses and stuff to go in them, as well as quilting; and she's a dab hand at the cooking, too (we all are, ecept me!). My daughter Beckie makes bead jewellery and the like; I've booked her to make me a beaded waistcoat like a Native Canadian one we saw in Edmonton when we were there.

Thank you, Moonchild. I am getting mighty embarrassed at these threads with my name in them, though! Maybe Joe could rename this one for us, to Mudcatters' crafting or some such?

bbc ALSO makes jewelry, from the sounds of it some really beautiful stuff. Steve, I would love to see some of your daughter's beading. I cannot work with seed beads; it drives me nuts! I admire anyone who can do such miniscule, intricate work. We have one elder, over at the reservation not far from here, who has some of her stuff in the Smithsonian. Beautiful work.

MC, as I said before, I would love to see pics of your dolls, too.

Rick Fileding & Bill Sables both do leather carving. And, if I remember right, Bert's kids also do beading. Alice is a superb nature artist and t-shirt designer. Catspaw is a luthier.

Hopefully they will all add their own to this.

I did some beading as a child. it drove me nuts!!! Main craftwork I do now is filet crochet lace shawls. I use them primarily as gifts. One friend wore hers to a function this summer and had two different people come up to her and say "Is that one of MMario's shawls?" *grin* They LOOK complicated, but one of the reasons I do them is that it is "brainless activity"

After you have bought your quota of Mudcat T-shirts, you can find shirts dyed with mud clay, printed with some designs I did for the company "Earth Creations". I am working on some Celtic knot designs for t-shirts for another company, but we don't have them up on the internet at this time.
A page of some of the designs I did for coffee and clay dyed shirts are here ----> designs by Alice on natural dyed shirts.

I don't know if I should be using this space to promote shirts that don't really support Max's efforts... buy your Mudcat shirt, first, to keep this website going.
(I get a royalty on the dyed shirts, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart if you buy one.)

I make cloth and polymer clay dolls, beaded and other jewelry, dragons, and mini books... some of that can be found on my page: J.A.L.B.Es I've been selling stuff on ebay and amazon.com, with varying degrees of success. :-)

I'd love to see what other 'catters have done! Katlaughing, where are the pics of your jewelry?

Jen, who is considering putting up a doll for auction, just to see... :-)

Hi, Jen, nice flutes and dolls! There are a couple of pics of my necklaces on bbc mudcat resources page with my photo. I don't have a webpage, yet. Since I do one of a kind pieces per person, it just hasn't been of top priority. I have a lot of pics I can email to anyone who is interested. And, like folk Legacy, if you remind me you are a Mudcatter, I will send a percentage to the Mudcat.

Alice, I love your artwork!

Moonchild: Kat sent me a photo of the bauble you won. It is absolutely beautiful! A true work of art. I imagine it looks better on you than on me - I'm happy for you. I know you will forever treasure it.

moonchild,

There is already provision on the photo pages for instrument or craft photos, as it says in the heading. Several people already have examples of their work--catspaw, Bill D., bill/sables, Barbara, katlaughing, & me. The thought was to show a little of what we can do, to facilitate donating to Mudcat, auctioning, or perhaps selling to interested parties. Although I like to limit each photo page to 3 photos, I'm happy to make some of those craft photos or even to add a craft photo or two to that number. If you haven't seen them already, check out bill/sables' leatherwork. It is gorgeous! I hope Rick Fielding will send me a photo or two of his work, too. I saw some things he had done for the Patons & they were great! For my own work (jewelry w/ natural stone & shell, I think I'll put up a section on my homepage, which is currently just my recipe file (There's a link to it from the resources page).

yep..I make (mostly) round things from wood,...bowls, plates, lidded jars, vases, objects d'art,,etc...

here is one...vase form of Sassafras..about 9" high

(I usually bring some stuff to the Getaway...under threat of excessive whining)...and I intend to have a web page up as soon as the fall craft shows are winding down..

Jen, you're welcome and thank you, too.

bbc & moonchild, let's see your stuff, too!

awww...shucks, katlaughing..*blush*...(It IS nice, ain't it..*grin*)..that one has been owned for almost 2 years by a friend in Oregon. I think it was about $125...I have pics of other stuff and 'most' stuff is not that fancy. I just may have a digital camera soon..(right now everything goes thru a film scanner)..I am up to my ears in craft shows this fall, which is why posts on the 'cat have been sparse...

(I want to be careful what I do here...I don't consider Mudcat a 'marketplace' for what I do..but am perfectly willing to trade info and pics privately and post my web site when I get it together)

'S really a fine piece of art, Bill, and that is an incredibly reasonable price. Can't wait to see your website.:-)
