Subject: Obit: Commercials ya gotta see From: Donuel Date: 23 May 07 - 09:58 AM funny ones, secret ones, hidious ones, commercials have their own award ceremony and play a huge part in society. If you have a good one post it here. Here is one that is eye opening http://www.vloggingtheapocalypse.com/view_video.php?viewkey=19d22b51c68001e7e0e5&page=1&viewtype=&category=mr |

Subject: RE: BS: Best commercial ever? From: melodeonboy Date: 04 Oct 11 - 05:46 AM An obvious choice perhaps, but it's got to be the meerkats for me! In fact, in order to retain both my sanity and (possibly more importantly!) my good humour, I find it necessary to turn the sound off when the adverts come on, with the odd exception such as the meerkats or Go Compare! (I still find it difficult to imagine how they could conceive such a cheesy advert!). (While we're on the subject of adverts, if ever I see either of those smug, social climbing brothers who advertise BMWs, I shall put sand in their petrol tanks!) What's the difference between a hedgehog and a BMW? Answers on a postcard, please! :) |
Subject: RE: BS: Best commercial ever? From: GUEST,Patsy Date: 04 Oct 11 - 08:43 AM Well for me it used to be the Halifax each commercial was more clever the last using people to build a house or an elaborate wedding cake etc. but now the best they can come up with these days is a choir and not a particularly special one at that. |
Subject: RE: BS: Best commercial ever? From: GUEST,Jon Date: 04 Oct 11 - 09:03 AM The Smash one remains one of my favourites here Also the Hamlet cigar ones stick in my mind. eg. this I Can't stand the meerkats and there seem to be a number of ads this days I can't understand... |
Subject: RE: BS: Best commercial ever? From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 04 Oct 11 - 09:59 AM Amstel did a bunch of ads featuring a couple of Irish guys roving through history: 1492 ('Oy Chris, there's land over there'), The Flood and Troy ('Cheers Helen'). |
Subject: RE: BS: Best commercial ever? From: MGM·Lion Date: 04 Oct 11 - 10:04 AM Who, though, has watched the one I linked to in OP? ~~ sorry I have never mastered blue clickies; but it really is worth following. Not from our tv ~ Danish, I think. ~M~ |
Subject: RE: BS: Best commercial ever? From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 04 Oct 11 - 11:25 AM (Oh dear, here comes the old lady with her fifties memories!) But the Murray mints (too good to hurry mints); the Esso sign means happy motoring; You'll wonder where the yellow went (Pepsodent) used to enchant us, viewing them on a tiny screen in a neighbour's sitting room. We sang them in the playground, and even now they make me smile. |
Subject: RE: BS: Best commercial ever? From: GUEST,Jon Date: 04 Oct 11 - 11:51 AM Here's a link, MtheGM. I think it's clever but I don't think I'd include it as one of my "classics". |
Subject: RE: BS: Best commercial ever? From: frogprince Date: 04 Oct 11 - 12:18 PM MtheGM, yer a dirty old man, ye are! (I was waiting for all the bottoms to come off in the plane, but at least one finally did) |
Subject: RE: BS: Best commercial ever? From: Will Fly Date: 04 Oct 11 - 12:44 PM Well I wouldn't consider it as a "classic", but it certainly gladdened an old man's heart for a few moments! My favourite series of ads in the UK is the Christmas series for Famous Grouse whisky. |
Subject: RE: BS: Best commercial ever? From: MGM·Lion Date: 05 Oct 11 - 05:07 AM Tu quoque, froggie: indeed, from your tailpiece add-on [pun intended!], IMO you even dirtier even if not older [which nobody is!]. ~M~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Best commercial ever? From: mayomick Date: 24 Jul 14 - 07:35 AM I'm not going to say it was the best commercial , but probably.............. The company's infuriating TV and billboard ads in the UK worked for over twenty years |
Subject: RE: BS: Best commercial ever? From: Wesley S Date: 24 Jul 14 - 09:09 AM A lifesavers commercial: Going, going......Gone |
Subject: RE: BS: Best commercial ever? From: LadyJean Date: 24 Jul 14 - 11:42 PM In the sixties, Gino's Pizza and Pizza rolls had great commercials, parodying other commercials. We bought the product because we liked them so much. Sadly, they sold out to another company. The product isn't as good and the ads are stupid. |
Subject: RE: BS: Best commercial ever? From: Joe Offer Date: 25 Jul 14 - 01:16 AM I fixed the defective links in the original post and in my own. The one I meant to link to was http://www.firestoneforeverthere.com/. |
Subject: RE: Commercials ya gotta see From: Joe Offer Date: 11 Aug 20 - 02:54 PM I got a big kick out of the Lume deodorant ad:"Better than my last marriage....he was needy." |
Subject: RE: BS: Commercials ya gotta see From: EBarnacle Date: 11 Aug 20 - 06:51 PM I have recently been seeing an add that looks like a parody but it has been on several channels. The ad is for an electric razor and is advertised as being for trimming your "bush," which seems to be the copywriter's euphemism for men's pubic hair. Talk about some marketer's invention of a need! Good grief! just looked them up on line and the spiel is on the level. They claim it goes all the way ack to the ancient Egyptians. https://www.manscaped.com/blogs/grooming/best-male-pubic-hair-trimmer |
Subject: RE: BS: Commercials ya gotta see From: Charmion Date: 13 Aug 20 - 11:42 AM Wow, Joe, that's a major production of a commercial. Of course, on YouTube they can be as long as the paying client is willing to pay for -- no need to leave room for actual, you know, news, weather, sports or situation comedy. |
Subject: RE: BS: Commercials ya gotta see From: keberoxu Date: 14 Aug 20 - 03:52 PM Will there be a Super Bowl in 2021, I wonder? Talking of commercial advertisements, I mean. |
