Subject: BS: Euromillions scam From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 24 Oct 11 - 06:33 AM Yippee, I've just won £80,000 in the Euromillions lottery, I'll send Max a cheque for the Mudcat and ...Oh, just a minute. I have never bought a Euromillions lottery ticket. The letter, covered in all sorts of official logos and stamps, was posted in Spain, where I've never been. Oh, all I have to do is fill in the attached form to the "agent" who has my winnings in an escrow account. I just have to send my bank details... You get the picture! Damn, back to the over-60s special offers in the shops again! RtS |

Subject: RE: BS: Euromillions scam From: SINSULL Date: 24 Oct 11 - 08:49 AM I won too. Still waiting for the money to show up in my account. I sent the "good faith" $15000 they asked for. Wonder what the delay could be... |
Subject: RE: BS: Euromillions scam From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 Oct 11 - 10:09 AM Hey - hands off - It's MY money. I know because I got a letter! On a more serious note the latter was not really mine - It was addressed to my late step mother. My father - Who is nearly 90 and tends to get confused at times could quite easily have been conned into sending his details. Is it worth sending it on the police? I guess they must be aware but scamming old people is particularly frowned upon. Would it add any ammunition to the authorities? DtG |
Subject: RE: BS: Euromillions scam From: BTNG Date: 24 Oct 11 - 10:28 AM a well organised scam then, what with a fancy website and all. A lovely online casino. 9 countries involved in the scam, including the UK and Ireland. Twitter, Facebook RSS feed...boy! are they EVER organised ....AND you can be conned in..count'em...eight languages! |
Subject: RE: BS: Euromillions scam From: EBarnacle Date: 24 Oct 11 - 10:58 AM If you got it as physical mail, it's mail fraud. Give it to the post office and let them deal with it . . . or not. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euromillions scam From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 Oct 11 - 02:34 PM Ta EB - but all the checks I have made indicate we can report it to any number of fraud authorities but no mention of the post office oddly enough! Anyhow I will pass it on to one of them. Doubt if owt will happen but at least it may be a bit more ammo. Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: BS: Euromillions scam From: GUEST,999 Date: 24 Oct 11 - 03:13 PM "Yippee, I've just won £80,000 in the Euromillions lottery" Roger, the last time they sent me the letter saying how much I'd won it was over 500,000 pounds. You are getting ripped off. Tell them to up the ante or they aren't getting your bank account details. |

The solution was easy though, all I had to do was type in all my account details and, hey presto!, the account was fine! Now all I've got to do it find out why my Visa card won't be accepted anywhere... LOL Pete |
Subject: RE: BS: Euromillions scam From: GUEST,Roger the cookieless skifflet Date: 26 Oct 11 - 09:24 AM It amused me that they give a very unround sum to make it seem plausible. I've referred it to local Trading Standards but I don't suppose they'll do anything. We'll advise ever older & more confused neighbours, or their carers to watch out for these letters. RtS |
