Subject: Obit: RIP Dave White, 27/10/11 From: Chris Partington Date: 27 Oct 11 - 06:52 AM I'm afraid Dave White, hammer dulcimer player of Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire, passed away overnight. For those who didn't know him, he played hammer dulcimer at his local Ripponden session for many years, and took it with him to sessions and festivals further afield. It is only a few weeks since he last visited us, at which point he was still bravely keeping his illness to himself and a few close friends. He had been gravely ill for some time. What many in the folk world wouldn't be aware of was his 'day job' as a leading contemporary potter. He had his studio in Mytholmroyd and used clay that he had dug out of the hillsides himself. He sold his work all over Europe, and loved his annual holiday trips abroad, selling and demonstrating at potter's festivals. We always enjoyed playing with him in sessions, at Ripponden and other places. He'll be missed. Our condolences to his family and friends. Sylvia and Keith |
Subject: RE: Obit: RIP Dave White, 27/10/11 From: Mary Humphreys Date: 27 Oct 11 - 02:08 PM I am very sad to hear this. I didn't even know he was ill. I remember many a time sitting next to him and his dulcimer at sessions in Ripponden. He was a delightful man. Please pass on my condolences to his family. Mary |

Subject: RE: Obit: RIP Dave White, 27/10/11 From: GUEST,Lynn Breeze Date: 12 Nov 11 - 04:08 PM So sad to hear this. He was a lovely gentle guy and I, too, know him mostly from his dulcimer playing at sessions and from stopping for a chat occasionally in Hebden Bridge. I have some of his pottery too... my favourite bowls were made by him. I'm very sorry to have heard the news too late to be able to go to his funeral. Lynn. |
