Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: SeanM Date: 03 Oct 99 - 05:07 PM Error on my end as well... Running W95, Netscape 4.6. Getting "Document contains no data" after submitting password. Hope this is helpful? M |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: sophocleese Date: 03 Oct 99 - 03:47 PM I've only just been able to get in as well Jon. I got the same strange error message. Glad to know it wasn't personal. I haven't tried out the chat yet, just about to do so. Sophocleese |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: Jon Freeman Date: 03 Oct 99 - 02:49 PM Alison, don't know what he's been fixing - this is the first time I've managed to get into Mudcat today - kept getting some weird Windows NT error mesage. Jon |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: alison Date: 03 Oct 99 - 02:37 AM maybe Max is fixing the scrolling *grin* I got the "can't be retreived message" too.... slainte alison |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: Jon Freeman Date: 03 Oct 99 - 02:20 AM It looks like it is gone again. It seems to verify the password OK (I've tried keying a wrong one in and it bounces straight away) but things seem to go wrong after that. If I wait long enough, I get a message that the requested page can not be retrieved (or something like that). Jon |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: alison Date: 03 Oct 99 - 01:39 AM doesn't seem to be working today slainte alison |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: katlaughing Date: 03 Oct 99 - 12:55 AM Aaarrggghhhhh! Back to the drawing board???? Has anyone been able to get in today? As soon as I hit submit query with my password, it just locks up. My little IE "E" icon quits turning and nothing happens! Oh, well, it IS a prototype. Other than the above, it was really neat, Max. I liked it! luvyaKat |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: katlaughing Date: 02 Oct 99 - 06:05 PM Skarpi, don't feel bad. I think something may be wrong with it, today. I usually have no problem and I can't get past putting my password in. Nice to see you here, though! katlaughing |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: skarpi Date: 02 Oct 99 - 06:02 PM I have tried and tried but I think my computer is to small for all this. How big does it have to be??????????????????????. skarpi Iceland. |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: wildlone Date: 02 Oct 99 - 03:06 PM been in here one hour.problem with UK being 5 hours in front of M/C time will try later |

Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: Jon Freeman Date: 02 Oct 99 - 11:43 AM Just for curiosity, I have just timed a log on on my system (P133, IE5, Windows95, 56k Modem). It took 28 seconds and I would say that was a tyical log on - I have not exerienced a long wait. The only problems I have had are all of the ones bbc reported in her last post (except being hit with a frozen trout!). Jon |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: wildlone Date: 02 Oct 99 - 09:58 AM just logged on took 2 mins,56k modem p2 300 |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Oct 99 - 03:55 AM Ah, foiled again! That dastardly Mick has all the luck! -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: alison Date: 02 Oct 99 - 03:53 AM haha..... can't get in Joe.. I'm stuck behind a fire wall.... not onmy usual connection..... nice try though.. *grin* |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Oct 99 - 03:48 AM Dang. Mick's probably asleep and I could have had alison all to myself... Wonder how I missed her. |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: alison Date: 02 Oct 99 - 03:11 AM watch who you're calling old timers Sean.. I'm only slightly older then you....... **grin** slainte alison |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: SeanM Date: 02 Oct 99 - 03:00 AM I seem to always see the same group of 'catters in the room... is there anything that could be done that would draw some others of you in there? I already have seen 'spaw and some of the other oldtimers ;)... Let's hear what it would take to get the rest of the cats on to chat... M |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: Jon Freeman Date: 01 Oct 99 - 10:07 PM I won't keep coming back to report on chat but it needs to be said that bbc's cyber cookies were delicious. Jon |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: bbc Date: 01 Oct 99 - 09:59 PM Just had a nice chat w/ Jeri, MMario, & Jon Freeman. Couple of problems, though. Sometimes, what I typed would not display. Then, once, I was thrown out. I still had chat open, but my name disappeared & it said that I left the room! Folks, if you leave & want to come back, exit & close. If you just exit & re-enter, your name will be on the list twice. Max, I like the "do" line, but Jeri already got me w/ a frozen trout! bbc |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: MMario Date: 01 Oct 99 - 01:23 PM Dang! no luck. though I now get a big WHITE box rather then a big GRAY box. |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: Tony Burns Date: 01 Oct 99 - 01:13 PM Works for me. Musicman: The 'on the hour' suggestion is one that has come up before and worked with some success in the predecesor chat. I can't think of a better one. Max: do what you can to eliminate the need to scroll left and right. I swore I'd never use the blink tag but I couldn't help myself here. |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: MMario Date: 01 Oct 99 - 01:03 PM nothing but a big gray box. I'm gonna try and load an updated netscape.... |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: Musicman Date: 01 Oct 99 - 12:56 PM works great for me. No problem loggin in and coming up with the necessary screens. Is there anyway we could set up a time schedule to 'check in' ? Like 'on the hour', so if someone wants to chat, that would be the time to see who's there. Just a thought...... Musicman |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: Jen Date: 01 Oct 99 - 08:25 AM Doesn't seem to want to work on my computer at home, but will check in at work to see if anyone's around! Jen |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: katlaughing Date: 01 Oct 99 - 01:05 AM Just went there; got in really fast, BUT no one is there. Are you all going to somewhere different?**BG** Damn, 'Spaw, I told you not to put that dummy 'pewter out in our faerie garden litterbox; now you bring that right back and hook me up proper! |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: Jon Freeman Date: 01 Oct 99 - 12:42 AM Just signed off: Alison, thosp and Lonesome where there when I left. I have enjoyed it - sorry a few of the others that tried it couldn't get access. Jon |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: Alice Date: 30 Sep 99 - 11:22 PM Yes, I am on a MAC. I felt some success in at least getting to the page with the guitar grahics, even though there was no chat ability. I'll let it sit longer and see what shows up, if anything. |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: alison Date: 30 Sep 99 - 11:19 PM took me about 5 minutes and that was using a Pentium with a 56K modem. alison |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: catspaw49 Date: 30 Sep 99 - 11:19 PM Just left and had a great time..Jon Freeman, kendall morse, Bill D, Sean, alison et al--thanks. I too hated the scrolling part but it works great. Alice, it may just take a long time or it may not work with some systems perhaps? We were discussing it...do you use MAC? Everyone there was Pentium/IE/95or98. Spaw |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: MissMac Date: 30 Sep 99 - 11:17 PM Well I've been waiting with the gray screen for 15 minutes I know my modem is slow but that slow I will have to try to get in another time. Time to get off line now. |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: alison Date: 30 Sep 99 - 10:42 PM if you've got to that bit alice it is still trying to load.. hold on... it took ages |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: SeanM Date: 30 Sep 99 - 10:37 PM And is there a chance for the "whisper" mode? Kinda liked being able to send sneaky little private messages for people... M |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: Jon Freeman Date: 30 Sep 99 - 10:27 PM Try agian Alice, I'm finding it quite amusing. One has left no but for some reason we still have 5 - look like the same Bill is here twice! Jon |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: Alice Date: 30 Sep 99 - 10:24 PM all I get is the guitar and Mudcat Chat background graphics and the "click here to exit", but no place to type in 'chat'. This is more than I got on the old chat, but it sure would be nice to join in. |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: alison Date: 30 Sep 99 - 10:08 PM 5 of us now.... keep trying |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: alison Date: 30 Sep 99 - 10:00 PM You get that blank screen for ages before it connects you.. just be patient there are 3 of us in there you will get through if you wait....... Max, thank for the chat room..... here comes some constructive criticism....... is there any way of making the box bigger? It is very annoying to have to scroll from side to side to see what is on the end of a sentence. either the chat box needs to be larger, or it needs to create line breaks to make the text fit into the existing box.... is this possible? slainte alison |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: sophocleese Date: 30 Sep 99 - 09:42 PM I'm frustrated too. I keep getting a blank grey screen. Nothing else, nada, zip, nothing. Not the most stimulating chat. |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: Cara Date: 30 Sep 99 - 09:35 PM I just tried again...nothing. Just th Mudcat logo and the click here to exit link. Do I have to be java enabled (on his piece of s**t webtv thing, I'm not). I want to chat!!! I was so happy that I would be able to when we got webtv, because I can't do t from work, where I usually post, which is foolhardy enough in this age of internet spying.... I'm pouting. |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: alison Date: 30 Sep 99 - 09:31 PM Do is where you can hit people with a dead trout, or whatever you want to do. Just type it in without your name.. it will add your name..... I amd off there now to try it out. slainte alison |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: Jon Freeman Date: 30 Sep 99 - 09:28 PM I tried it a few weeks ago and had a brief chat with somebody. Just gone back to have another look - it appears to be working again but I seem to be alone Jon |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: bbc Date: 30 Sep 99 - 09:21 PM Yes, Sean & I just experimented together! :) For "do", leave off your name & write what you want to do. Your name automatically starts the sentence. Nice talking w/ you, Sean! Nice to have some chat back, too. Thanks, Max! bbc |
Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: SeanM Date: 30 Sep 99 - 09:13 PM In there now, feeling lonesome... Looks good though, once it gets a bit more known. As to the various boxes, my current theory: Say results in a note stating "So-and-so says:whatever"
Do results in a direct "So-and-so
Thanks Max!

Subject: RE: prototype chat? From: katlaughing Date: 30 Sep 99 - 09:04 PM I don't know, Cara, but I went in there, today. It took a while to load in, with no visible clues as to what was going on, but it worked fine when the whole page opened out. You just type & hit enter and up on the screen it apprears. I was the only one in there, so I didn't stay. I am not sure what the "Do" box is for, so I just stuck to the one marked "Say". kat |
Subject: prototype chat? From: Cara Date: 30 Sep 99 - 08:57 PM Starting with the pmise that I do indeed understand the meaning of the word "prototype", what's up with the chat room? I followed thelink to planet7tech, and I clicked to enter the room, but then there was nothing. What is it supposedto look like? Has anyone chatted successfully? Furthermore, where are we chatting nowadays? My sister just got webtv so I can mudcat at home. Will I be able to access a chat room from webtv? Is that why I ouldn't access the prototypical chat room? |
