I just clicked on two ads that were not aimed at me. That Virgin Mobile Broad band looks sweet! You Brits can get TV and phone for 9 pounds per month???!! YOU LUCKY DOGS!!!!

Anyway. I am looking forward to seeing ads for structured settlements and UK cable packages as I prowl the Internet!

Wouldn't be allowed to ask you to click the ads, against the agreement. Whenever it comes up, though, we earn an extra couple hundred bucks that month.

We're averaging 66 clicks per day, and it's actually pretty accurate to say that per click earnings vary by annoyance level from $0.15 for the text ads to $0.47 for the banner size between the music and BS sections to over $1 for the "Rich Media Ads" which are the really annoying moving ones.

Whatever was running last Thursday as a rich media ad must have compelled y'all cuz it was clicked 5X more than any other ad or day in the last month and earned us $25 in a day all by itself. Probably that t-shirt ad with the cute girl. :)

You have to be a glutton for punishment to click some of those links! In the past I've encountered the kind of site that whips the browser window out to the full size of the monitor, starts making noise and blinking and won't let you leave with the back arrow or to close the window. Those kinds of sites should be outlawed, but I'm sure they're still there, so click carefully! Sites have little control over what ads are placed where.

I can block specific companies and ads.

I would be glad to do my part to remove them from the face of the earth, so let me know if you ever encounter such. Make sure you get the url and name of the company so I can find them in my ad manager.

Nobody would believe this, but I don't see ads. They're there but they don't register with me at all. Pretty much the same with TV. Once in a while a hot babe or guitar porn registers with me but otherwise I suppress it all. I'll try to look while I'm here.

I used to click on the ads, for that reason, though I never bothered to look at them. But the links don't show up any more - I think it's some adblock thing on my updated browser. I don't miss them, but I imagine Max must, if too many of us are set up like that.

I almost always click on some of the ads, even when I am tired and it is late (like tonight!). Somewhere on another thread someone wrote we should stay on the ads site for a while, so now when I get to the ad I click on something there. For example, if I go to the site of a company that sells a variety of goods, I click on Women's. Then I click on one of the items. Then I click to enlarge the photo of the item. Then I return to Mudcat! Another thing I like to click on is "Sale" or Bargains" or Discounted items. Who knows, some day I may order something!

I just clicked an ad and then "hung around" which I usually don't do. AND, I even clicked on The BeeGees... THAT is how much I am willing to sacrifice for the sake of Mudcat.

Rogers cable, my TV, telephone and ISP, has an advert here. I click on it every chance I get. They have more $ than they need it seems by the amount of advertising they cram in my mail box on top of my monthly invoice.

If Google think that clicks from a specific visitor as "excessive" then those clicks won't be paid. If a disgruntled advertiser reported this thread then Max's account would be cancelled on the spot.

I get lots of offers of "whitepapers" on how to manage my nonexistent IT department to help maximize the profits of my business, which is also a complete hallucination in the minds (or corrupt databases) of those who keep sending the offers.

These whitepapers are simply blatent advertisements for whatever program is being pimped by the people who push them, but they do sometimes hint at interesting information, and once in a while I look at one.

A recent trend is for claims that some data managers allow advertisers to pay only for, or to pay more for, "qualified clicks." Automated "click analysers" check on whether the person who clicks remains at the target site for a specific minimum time, or sometimes may log only those who "click at the site" to show an actual interest. An apparently popular "selectiveness" is to pay a minimum amount for any click, but to pay a little more for the lingerers or for those who are clicking on the page during visits.

It appears that there are still sufficient advertisers who just pay the same for every click to justify satisfying fairly indiscriminate curiosities, and obvously if there's a choice about how to get to something, getting there from here is quite helpful.

Fortunately there sometimes is a way to improve the choices.

Several of us have noticed that after we've "Googled" for something, ads for similar stuff often appear in our browsers here for a while. Google is very good at following you and putting the "tailored ads" they manage in front of you wherever you go. Some cookie blockers can hinder their ability to do this, but without paranoid settings it seems to persist for many of us.

Google for what you're interested in first (especially when you might be looking for something to buy). Other search engines may do the same, but it's most noticeable here with Google? Then you may get links you can click on here that are at least vaguely related to what you were interested in. (Even a link that you looked at when it came up in the search may show something different about the people who put up the ads when you click in from a different place.) It's impossible to say which ones might change the amount the 'cat will earn, but it might possibly give you more interesting reading (and you might find something useful that didn't come up in the search results).

Jack, just because the unidenrtified guest left the "from" field blank it doesn't make him or her wrong and you right.

As somebody who has run Adwords campaigns I can tell you that click fraud is a problem that G takes seriously.

They regularly disallow clicks, I know because, as an advertiser, I have had refunds.

If they disallow too many on one site then that account may be closed - FACT

If they think that the publisher has been soliciting clicks then the account may be closed - FACT

IF the account is closed any unpaid funds in the account are forefit - FACT

Don't be a dick Peter. The advertisers know that whenever we are in the market for a 22 year old Ukrainian girl we will click their link first.
